A great talented writer. What an experience to read his book Oromay. I couldn't put it on the table once. For those who want to read Oromai online, go to the Amharic Wikipedia and search for it in Amharic.

One of the greatest Ethiopian intellectuals of the last century. Bealu Girma is in the same class as Haddis Alemayehu, tsegaye gebremedhin, mehatemesilasse, Ashenafi kebede, hagos gebreyesus. These are some of my Ethiopian heros.

I heard that Comrade Fikreselassie Wogderes the then PM of the Derg Regime was the one who ordered Baelu to be killed. Actually, he has ordered Bealu to be thrown some where in remote desert region where it is believed left for hungry wild lions . The military helicopter has been ordered to drop him to this mystrious place. His fault was just for writing a book which they think is targeted their regime.

Bealu Girma is the author of the book "OROMAY" best of the century book in Ethiopia. Oromay- was a fiction based on a true story in the dergue era. This book was the cause of his death by the then brutal communist dictator Mengistu Hailemariam. By the way, Mengistu killed thousands of Ethiopian best intellectuals most of them a graduate from British Oxford University. Imagine, if they were alive?? Probably, we may not see all the mess witnessing right now. RIP-Mr. Be'alu!!

I believe we should have known who killed this great writer, when and why. BeAlu Girma was one of the best modern Amharic writers, and the people should have known his last days. I am sure those murderers are still alive some where! Is there any one who knows when and where he was killed? It makes me sick to learn such a prolific writer was killed at his young age, and yet no one tells where and when he was killed.

Bealu was one among very few outspoken individuals like Abbey Gubegna and Addis Alemayehu, who fearlessly exposed the then government's military bearaucry and mismanagement of the war in Eritrea. It is sad, he was viciously silenced and his whereabouts are still a mistery. Is anyone willing to tell us what happened to this precious son of Ethiopia?
