Its sad that Toei makes such a big deal about it. I mean you'd think you would want the fans to recreate and keep the DBZ episodes alive. Even if they aren't anything like the original episodes. You guys should use Camtasia Studios 7 and Windows Movie Maker to edit. Than you can make episodes quicker and so Toei won't keep on being annoying brats. Camtasia Studios and Windows Movie Maker don't seem to catch the eye of Toei. Trust me.
Erm... what you people don't realise is that teamfourstar using, altering and distributing copyrighted material that they DO NOT OWN... you will find that in most countries where material is copyrighted, or the rights to said material have been purchased.. it is illegal to alter and display material that you DO NOT OWN.
In short.. TOEI is within their rights to protect material they have purchased..

My guess in Toei's action is that probably abridged series aren't that well known in Japan (unless there ARE Japanese fans the abridged show). Essentially they have different views to abridged series than American (and British) companies.

Copyright law is a very complex area. In this case, youtube was playing it safe. Youtube has the right to take down anything, its in their terms and conditions
they do because you are using their material if the imagery was fan made it could satire protected but because it is a re edit it is technically illegal.

TOEI created a really medium (compared to what they actually could make with some effort) anime series from totally amazing and legendary manga. TFS version of these long long (long long long) episodes is 100 times better, frankly it's a couple of best videos I've seen on this mess called YouTube. So well, they're prolly just jelaous :)

I believe that parodies are covered under Fair Use no matter the medium. The simple fact that TFS is uploading the episodes free and not for cash should also be a credit in their favor. TOEI Animation used TFS as a test device, to see how far they could stretch the law. It will continue if they go unchallenged.

The reason they're doing this is because of Dragonball Kai. They're basically on a hunt for anyone uploading anything related to Dragonball. I'd say wait a month or two and lay low until the initial hunt is over and they move onto something else. This always happens when new shows come out. Don't panic.

If I was was a writer for a manga series or in charge of an anime company, I'd LOVE to see an abridged version of it, Provided that the person would be as talented as you guys at TFS and of course Little Kuriboh aka CardsGamesFTW. BTW, was what Youmacon 2009 like?

TOEI created a really medium (compared to what they actually could make with some effort) anime series from totally amazing and legendary manga. TFS version of these long long (long long long) episodes is 100 times better, frankly it's a couple of best videos I've seen on this mess called YouTube. So well, they're prolly just jelaous :)

was it really within toei's right to remove their accounts? isnt what their doing protected under Fair Use? they're not entire episodes, NONE of the audio is used, and what footage is used is chopped up.

I believe that parodies are covered under Fair Use no matter the medium. The simple fact that TFS is uploading the episodes free and not for cash should also be a credit in their favor. TOEI Animation used TFS as a test device, to see how far they could stretch the law. It will continue if they go unchallenged.

total agreement. but, you know how youtube is. if you flag a video, they take it down, no questions asked. and that's from any John Q User. if a big company like TOEI says there's a copyright violation, youtube hops right to it and kowtows to their demands. it's pretty damn disgraceful on youtube's part that they dont even understand their own guidelines.

well that's exactly hat TOEI is trying to say. TFS doesnt own any of the rights to DBZ, therefore them posting the footage on the internet infringes on their copyright. TOEI is completely wrong because what TFS does falls directly within the guidelines of youtube and is completely protected under Fair Use copyright laws. TOEI can shove it up their asses. but do you think youtube cares? (protip: the answer is no)

I hate toei, I support the official release I have seasons 1-8, they shouldn't remove the abridged series because someone who hasn't seen this great anime may start to like it and buy the dvds.

The reason they're doing this is because of Dragonball Kai. They're basically on a hunt for anyone uploading anything related to Dragonball. I'd say wait a month or two and lay low until the initial hunt is over and they move onto something else. This always happens when new shows come out. Don't panic.

Rofl, random thought. What if tfs made an agreement with toie (however that's spelled) to help advertise/ sell official dbz DVDs? Then they could post vids, and money-hungry Toie would get a ton more sales. It would be a win win.
