The "Marches" website offers this very cool insight into the music itself: "Colonel Bogey was inspired by a military man and golfer who whistled a characteristic two-note phrase (a descending minor third interval) instead of shouting “Fore!” It is this phrase that begins each line of the melody."
If flygweilo is right about "Col. Bogey" also being Alford's/Ricketts's CO (see below), the band must have had a chuckle whenever they played it -- even without the lyrics.
@LUKEDARTmovies I'm not joking! I guess i can't prove it to you over youtube, but if i knew you, i could show you my family tree, heirlooms etc...Plus, i can probably answer any question about him within reason by asking my grandparents...try me if you want :)
a fine rendition of perhaps alfords best march - alford/ricketts in britain, sousa in the usa, teike in germany were all top notch march composers - the debate goes on as to which one was the best - but it's like comparing apples to oranges to whatever - sousa gets the title of march king only by the sheer number of quality marches that he wrote but their all deserving of the title in their own countries i believe - here's to all of them!

Popular lyrics to this beautiful march :- Hitler has only got one ball, Goering has two but very small, Himmler is somewhat similar But poor Goebbels has no balls at all.
@TheDonutFox ...that "thing" under the heading of "American Victory March" is a caricature of the way the march is played in the USA. I don't know what the problem is with that video but it's a terrible, distorted example of this march. Over here it's played at the same tempo as the one now playing...
God bless all previous military personnel and obviously the military personnel serving around the world today, whether it be in the Army, Navy or Air Force, all fight for a common cause, to maintain our safety and protection; for which, I believe they deserve our utmost respect! The tune "Colonel Bogey" was written by Kenneth Alford, the nom de plume of Major (Lieutenant, at the time) Frederick Joseph Ricketts of HM Royal Marines.
Ricketts took the name Alford so he could publish his marches despite Army Regulations; he was Bandmaster in Fort George outside Inverness in Scotland when he wrote "Colonel Bogey" about his Commanding Officer, who wasn't any good at golf.
