  • Nice video what was the score?

  • @blackfeatherarchery 55; Scoring was 10, 5 0

  • @Woodenarrows Okay how many yards was the shot shooting between tree's nice.

  • @blackfeatherarchery Don't know exactly, but looks to be around 20. Our 3D traditional range is not set using known distances. We just set the pin to where it creates a challenging shot, be it short or long. Unless someone happens to walk it off, nobody knows the exact yardages from one target to the next, nor do we care. No sights are used and range finders are not permitted.

  • @Woodenarrows Okay i understand i'm a compoundbow shooter with sight but i don't have a range finder.

  • Hahaha you guys say your instinctive shooting! That is NOT instinctive shooting! Your aiming and your holding your bow at full draw. I'm an instinctive shooter and I don't have to aim at all, and I snap shoot. Pull her back and let her fly! I can hit a bullseye at 30yrds within half a second. Getting better every day! Happy hunting!

  • Woof tough course ...

  • haha the last archer - the one with yellow glasses - so cracked me up, brilliant

  • why are they pulling to there eye? not instinctive at all

  • @maddipper12 where you anchor has nothing to do with it. It all depends on if you use your arrow as a sight before release or if you are staring at a small point on your target, feeling your way in. I shoot instinctive but anchor at my eye because it allows me a smoother release follow through.. Anchor point is a matter of preference. How you aim is where instinctive or gap is decided.

  • Nice shooting gentlemen!

  • well hell skeeter did ya hit it yet??

  • I'm loving some of that !! Longbow #1

  • I have always wanted to get into archery, but one question which might seem really dumb - why do you cant the bow? Surely this adds an additionally but unnecessary element into the equation of hitting the target?

    `

  • @Minkymoo222 Canting your bow actually improves accuracy when shooting instinctively. It allows for a better sight window by getting the bow out of the way, it rotates your forearm away from the bowstring and it gives you a more natural bow grip. If you just stick out your arm you’ll probably find you hand is naturally tilted a little. Also, for some bows with narrow arrow shelves, it may be the only way to keep the arrow on the shelf. Canting is not a good thing if you use sights.

  • @Woodenarrows Its been hard to find the right materials for these ancient style bows, from sinew strings to cane or viburnum arrows..and the archery shops just sell compound bows, they know nothing about this stuff.

  • @5tonyvvvv 3rivers achery online has everything you need to make primitive bows and knives.. They are an outstanding company and have provided me with a lot of info and great advice.

  • Awesome looks like great fun hope I can be there someday

  • "out of the shoot"... as in no more shooting? Or can you pick up a second arrow and keep shooting just for a nice day out in the woods with no further scoring points?

Also, what if someone robin-hoods your arrow? Out in that case too?

It's highly unlikely I'll ever shoot with you guys, but I can't help thinking about details like that. :)

  • @thirteenfingers Out of the scoring competition for the "Iron Man". Everyone is welcome to shoot for fun, as long as it's after the competitive round. The "One arrow" rule only applies to the 10 target Iron Man competition. The regular 40 target, 2 round, 3 class weekend event allows as many arrows as you need to complete the shoot. We also do an after dark 10 target shoot.

Robin Hood? Has never come up but it would only be fair to allow that person to continue with a subsituted arrow.

  • These shoots are alot of fun. A little frustrating at times, but still fun. We do these at my archery club here in Ohio. Nice video.

  • @misper34 You're right!. Our "Iron Man" and "Extreme" shoots darw a lot of shooters. Everyone seems to really enjoy the challenge and get a kick out of them.

  • I'm not being a troll or anything, but those arrows don't look very traditional.

    Plastic nock for example.

  • @LetumFilms You’re thinking “Primitive” and we do have a category for that. “Traditional” is any stickbow (non compound) i.e. recurve, longbow or selfbow :-) Traditional can use wood, aluminum or carbon arrows and any type nock. “Primitive” class must use wood arrows and some clubs or shoots require self nocks in the primitive class.

  • i cant freaking wait until summer comes around for some 3d. my new hybrid long bow is being built and i cant wait to get out with that and fling some arrows at foam. this iron man stuff looks like fun and a real challenge. how long of a time limit do you have to look for the arrows?

  • @alucardgrindcore No time limit to look for your arrow but the event ends at a set time of day and all cards must be turned by that time.

  • @Woodenarrows what are bow woods in florida?..its all useless pine forests..and why are linen strings not considered primitive?..its a plant..

  • Man, i really want to learn but i have no idea where to start.

  • @iThinkMyNameIsCindy Check around and see if there is an archery club in your area or an archery shooting range. If so, visit one day. A Saturday mid to late morning will probably have the most shooters. Most archers are happy to explain the tidbits and explain a few things to get you started.

  • @iThinkMyNameIsCindy Go see if there is a 4h archery club near you that would be a start. They train you and you become a coach for the kids (and adults) it is a great way to get started.

  • @iThinkMyNameIsCindy start by stringing your bow :) just get a target and teach yourself, thats what I did and i can hit targets in the air now

  • im 16 years old and a tidy size for my age and i want a recurve bow what draw weight would i need >?>?>?

  • @jamie123ginge The worst thing you could do is to let someone talk you into “over bowing” your self. That means trying to use too strong a bow. Too strong a bow hinders your chance to learn good form. Are you planning to target shoot or hunt? If you want to hunt, make sure you get a bow that is of legal hunting weight in your state. If legal, I would suggest something in the 35# range as a good starting weight and it’s plenty for 3D target fun.

  • @jamie123ginge Ii think 35 pound is too much to ask for unless you do train your triceps

  • @xxxvsxxx i'm 15 and not very big for my age - i think 35-40lbs @ 28 inches would be fine for a beginner. i can draw and shoot a friend's 65lb self-bow fairly well but after a few hours on a winter stand- not a chance. i use a 45lb recurve for hunting but at my draw length it comes to almost 50. depending on what you're planning on using your bow for a good idea would be to get a less expensive take down bow and get 30 and 40 lb limbs for it.

  • @jamie123ginge

try to find some people in your area that have trad bows. its alot different then compounds. i draw 60# on my compound but with my trad bows my comfort zone for now is 45# at my draw length.

i started off with a 40# at my draw length bow and itt took me some time to get use to that even

around the 30# range for a first timer would probably be best so you can work on form. if you get a take down you can get 30# and 40# limbs and when your comfortable with 30# move up

  • I'll bet the snake shooting is more of a challenge...

  • lawl... "did you see where it went? -.^" "straight through" "good! good.. yea i totally meant to do that"

  • I watched this whole thing.....cheering each shooter on....and you didn't show me the target after.....what's that all about?

  • that´s an insane shoot. you guys must be crazy. for what arrow company was that tournament ?

  • what arrows are you using?

  • @NBalestrini We shoot the arrows we normally shoot. Some wood, some aluminum and some carbon.

  • its kinda like watching golf....only much more entertaining :D good job!

  • Was that third guy shooting a zipper?

  • @PaRifleman1 Not sure, he has gone through several bows the past year or so.

  • the way they are releasing their Arrows, the wont even hit somthin' in front of them like 10 meters..

  • hi folks. nice shooting. respect

  • nice, but you could've at least showed us where the hits were :)

  • i wish i could be there!

  • Good times!

  • Nice , the tunes were appropriate . Good times.

  • Looks like fun guys hope to do the same in AR

  • good idea for a competition

  • great video

  • I have to get something like that started in Eugene, OR..........

  • well what the hell most aren't even using a wood arrow lol

  • Archery FUN! Outstanding! Everyone of those guys were winners!

  • sorry its 50 pounds

  • Well Chris, sometimes we just have to get by with what we have. However, if you are planning on 3D/target shooting, at your age, it would be good if you could find something in the 30-35# catagory. You will have more fun shooting a bow of that weight and you will be much more acurate with it.

If you plan to bowhunt, be sure to check your state laws on mininum bow weights.

    Jim...

  • this looks fun im 12 and would like to get into stuff like this i have a old 6o + bow but i think its a bit much for me to aim and be acurate

  • that would be class i did a bit when i went to sherwood forest :P. i know its not our way of life nymor but i cnt help but think of mongols or even english yeomen laughing hysterically at us trying to hit targets like these :(

  • i'd like that :-)

  • Some tough shots. Incredible.

  • Hello from France ;-)

I really like this kind of shots.

    You're great, guys!

    Cheers

  • The music and thick accents say it all. None the less very Impressive shots for such diffucult targets

  • great shooting. By the way what was the name of the bow the first shooter was using?

  • If I remember correctly, it is a Palmer recurve

  • thanks man

  • Come on guys, show the target so we can truly appreciate your shootin'! LOL

Seriously, it looks like a lot of fun a it's certainly a nice idea.

  • Man that looks like it would be a blast! I would love to try that. You guys are pretty damn good.

  • Too hot and humid i wouldn't shoot there,or live there,or visit again! So long Florida.

  • Great competition! I'd hit the target with a compound bow, but with a recurve it is an almost impossible shot for me (except by pure luck). You are awesome archers!

  • Get the back involved in those shots boys.

  • neat-o

  • Nice shooting gentlemen,

  • Good stuff brotha.

  • Nice video and good spirit!

    Greetings!
