Have you shot any .22 pellets that weighed 14.3 grains at the gel, with a velocity around the 600 feet per second mark? If you did, how well did they penetrate the gel?
@reggieandnoah109 Those destroyers really hit harder than any other pellet I have tried. But they don't group well at all. But if you do connect on a pest its game over. Little sparrows just explode.
Very nice testing. People underestimate pellet guns all the time. The funny thing is the GAMO Silver Shadow Supreme is about standard power for a air rifle at 12-14 foot pounds or so. You can get much more power from a air rifle all the way up to 200+ foot pounds I have a Benjamin Marauder Air Pistol tuned to 25 foot pounds great gun & 8 shots to back me up. Air guns are definitely not toys & should never be treated like toys.
For the intelligent people out there: I am looking for a 4.5 mm airrifle (legal ofcourse), ofcourse I would like the best one there is, accurate and able to kill rodent, good enough to get a clean shot on a pigeon. I live in Holland and a werry good site that I use is: hesvanzweeden.nl
@tnoutdoors9 Wait, The master point are the best penetrating pellets, what about the magnum. I heard the magnums packed a bit more of a punch than the master points. Also, which is your favorite pellet for hunting small game.
only problem is this isnt a valid test as the temperature would have rose making the gel softer for the second test so a pointless test but i see where your coming from
It is virtually impossible to keep the same block at the same temp, unless it goes back into the regrigerator. I don't recall doing that on this test. Ballistic gel is the holy grail of ammo testing, but I'm going to start using SIM-TEST in Feb. 2011. It is the next best thing, perhaps better in some regard.
Would you recommend the 760 Pumpmaster Air Carbine? And if so, what do you recomend we shot @ with this gun? Birds? Rabbit?squirrels? Ex.? Thx 4 the great vid.
i did a ballistic test with chinese made .177 pellets and an old benjamin franklin air rifle. i filled up 3 soda cans of water and put a pie tin behind it to slow down the pellet even more and it went through it all plus 5 inch thick Styrofoam that i was hoping would catch it. so even an old one with bad ammo can kill
Yes. I know, because someone shot me with one when I was a teenager. About 60 yards away and I was hit in the stomach. My parents called the cops on him, just to scare him.
for me when i shoot my baby desert eagle bb gun pistol (480fps Co2) i were safety glasses simply because one day when i was shooting the bb gun. the bb bounced back from the fence (too close) and hit the glasses but that glasses didn't crack them. so every time when i'm going to be shooting i will alway be wearing safety glasses simply because i don:t want to loose an eye.
@Mo7Vsta it depends on what you want to shoot. as long as it has about 600 fps of power and from no more than 6 or so yards and its a clean head shot it should be fine.
Interesting I was given a .22 spanish spring piston air rifle a few years ago by a friend who got bored with it. I have never shot anything thicker than tin cans though.
Sorry, I don't have access to any .25 guns. I'll ask around, but as much as I have been shooting with friends, I don't recall seeing anything on the shooting table below .380 .
nice video, and this way i have an idea how it compared to my glycerin clear soap blocks. i found that the temperture of my soap blocks changed depth of penetration, so i keep it 70 degrees for tests so my hollow points will desplay expansion. i have baking clay i shoot and harden in oven for pemanent dispays for hollow point tests. its 265 deg. for 15 min. comes out like a rock.
The results surprised me. I really didn't think a 760 BB would go anywhere near that deep. Based on your past videos I was sort of expecting a grand finale using a .556mm on the test media remnants. Thank you again for your well made videos.
Damn I was kinda hoping for the red ryder haha.. the first "wood stock" I remember back in the day as a child.. I am glad I was introduced to bb/pellet guns as a child because it has helped me a lot with firearms handling.
For spring guns, a longer barrel does not necessarily mean it will give it more velocity as spring guns do not push out a lot of air as PCP and pump pneumatics or CO2 does. If you were to have a PCP air rifle, a longer barrel most of the time means it will have more velocity due to similar characteristics like powder expanding more through the length of the barrel.
YES. Several factors must converge at the right moment. There won't be as many of those as jug tests, mainly due to costs. Because of that, I will only run those for "best of the best" in premium ammo....in all calibers that I test now and plan to test in the future. And a spoiler....the 9mm Speer Gold Dot 124 +P will probably be the first one.
I have that same Crossman rife mine does not look as good as yours does but mine is over 20 years old. I got it for Christmas one year I will try to make a video and post it.
My Crosman is very sub-standard compared to those 20-30 years ago. I had a 760 in the late 70's, when they were made of steel and wood. The one I showed here is mostly plastic. At the store, I asked the clerk to check the box, as i swore it was empty; it's a lightweight. A small jar of jelly probably weighs more. Absolutely, post a video of it.
It will dehydrate for certain. Left indoors, I've seen it mold. Outdoors in the sun, dries up like potato chips. It could be interesting to make a short video on "The 12 G-Rated Uses for Left-Over Ballistic Gel". You know, spreading some on toast, a pizza topping, etc. Something warped, but educational satire. Ok, I'm all over it.
Safety was definitely meant to be an undertone in this effort. Kids might say, ok, I won't shoot a pellet gun at someone's head, but perhaps their stomach, back, leg, etc. Using one of these high-powered air rifles at 20 yards, you can still put the hurt on someone. The 20 yard pellet punched through 3" of gel and didn't look back. When you factor in Raptor pellets, it raises the stakes even more. The rule still stands, don't shoot people with pellet guns.
Yesss, some England relevant stuff. Cheers tnotdoors. Though i still watch every one of your ballistics tests/shooting vids/Hicock45 collaboratiions. Cheers man, and happy shooting.
