if you bring a guitar equipped with his pick-ups guitar to carvin.... or play a legacy with one... you get his basic tone... all the jackass's who say it's not true either haven't tried it or have no idea how to set up an amp
@carvinguitars i didn't look inside, but it did not sound like the legacys i tried at the carvin store. i am not saying they are not stock. i am saying they sounded different.
@TheBritishArmyClan The Serect Sauce was the grill. Nothing special about his cabs. In fact, I just shipped standard Legacy cabs right from stock to NY for Steve to play on the Experience Hendrix tour. Steve is borrowing cabs from a dealer in Holland for the Steve Vai festival this month as well.
@brownbigb Did you play through Steve's rig with his guitar? Steve's main guitars (EVO and FLO) are pretty unique. Plus the room size is going to change what you hear. Carvin amp rooms at the stores aren't huge. The amp does sound different (as any amp would) in a larger room.
@brownbigb you will NEVER sound like vai....even thru the same exact rig.... because of his touch. Ted Nugent has a story of playing thru Eddie Van Halens rig and became upset when he didn't sound like Eddie....and he was playing Frankenstein thru eddies cabs, amps and pedals......so you will NEVER SOUND LIKE VAI......even if you play the same exact rig.
@brownbigb idiot huh? #1 I never made fun of you bro...watch it. second his amps do sound like a stock amps. I just stated that his amps sound different because of all the things they run thru and his playing style.....so just because you played thru one doesn't mean shit. . . his Rig will always sound different than a legacy head standing alone.... idiot.
@imak9114 no. you stated that i will never sound like vai because i don't have his touch. you didn't say anything about legacy, or all the things that it's run through. i played one of his legacies just guitar-amp. not his whole rig. so it doesn't sound different because of that. you made a comment unrelated to mine, and now you are backpedaling. still off base though.
LOL Such a funny man. What a great musician and a humble human being. I've yet to see Stevie show even a hint of arrogance of disinterest in shows/interviews/meet and greet.
@thornjungle6661 its not 5 wahs, its 2 wahs (i think one is for the main signal and the other is for the fender amp) and a whammy, a main volume and a volume for the fender
Steve does say he runs it clean about half the time. This is his rig from 2007 prior to the Legacy II. For master class performances in 2009 and 2010 it has been only Legacy II amps played live.
Solo se puede tener el material que tiene Steve Vai si tienes dinero. Si no, solo te queda conformarte con una guitarra que la puede tener cualquiera, y un simple amplificador!! añadele un par de pedales y da gracias!
Steve Vai is just about the coolest human being on the whole danged planet. I feel proud to be one of his fans! Nobody else in this business treats his people like he treats us! Thank you Stsve for being such a great accessible guy as well as being a world class musician. I will never be able to play like you because God didnt give me that level of ability but i will strive always to do the very best that i can based on your example to us all.

I greatly thank you for the reply! Can you explain how how does the 'slaving' part using the two Legacy amps? Is there a drawing of the whole rig that I can consult? I really like his sound and want to try to obtain similar equipment and learn some of his tunes. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
Thaks for this tour Steve! This is very special about Steve Vai! What other genius guitar player will invite you in to see their tone machine! This guy is super cool! My only problem is that we buzzed by that stereo amp that creates the outs to the stage 4x12's. I'd really like to know what brand that is. Also, Steve said he was taking a send out from the Carvin head, but he did not say if it was from the 'emulation send' or if he had a dummy load/speaker simulator on the high voltage output?
The Legacy heads power his 4x12 cabs. The power amp in the rack is a Carvin TS100 tube power amp, this is what powers the custom stereo monitor Carvin built for him. Steve's TS100 has the chrome front plate. The same amp is still made but with a brushed metal plate instead of chrome.
hello Steve, from Madrid-Spain....I`m a very big fan and hope you see other time here on concert... I`m a guitarris left hand, but I play gibson les paul custom... what do you think about? I never saw you play Gibson guitars.... thank`s sincerely Santyrush
in one of his videos he said that he liked to have things simple(he ment his equipment not his playing)than why dont he just get 20cabs with each heads and than plug his pedals and stuff like that in?? simple and great AND FUCKIN COOL!!!
i have a crap load of equipment on stage too because i'm a looping artist... hope carvin doesn't mind me posting a video response.
LOVED my carvins in the 80s when i did heavier music. I used to take lessons from Satriani in Berlkley in '86, so i loved the tones Vai was getting from such an inexpensive amp.
plus i used to have a sweet carvin electric with an acoustic pickup and stereo outs...
Not true. As a solo artist, Steve is way more popular now than he was in the 80`s. The bands he was in then are not as popular now, Whitesnake, DLR band, but back then he could not go on a tour as a solo artist where now he can. Far more people know who Steve Vai is now as in the 80`s.

I believe you are correct. He was going to say studio. But he obviously didn't mean in a "big studio"....I think he got his words crossed. It has nothing to do with not being popular in the 80's; he had already been a member of Alcatrazz . He was playing with Roth in the biggest arenas imaginable. Trust me, Vai was more popular back then, if not more, because of the exposure from playing with Zappa, Alcatrazz, Roth and Whitesnake and was on all the covers of the major guitar magazines...
have u read what i put? do u think id be watching vais videos if i didnt know about him? i said he wasnt as popular as he WAS in the 80s. and i think he was gona say studio became he records so much, thats all. have a read of what ive written b4 u get urself mixed up
Damn! so many speakers and effects and cables running all over the place. And I rack my brain trying to get a decent sound with just an amp and a multi-effect pedal, I'd go crazy with a set-up like that!
Why isn't the Legacy rackmount, considering vai already uses rack gear? Just for visuals? It'd be a lot easier to just have everything you need in the rack + pedalboard.
Vai will be Vai, I guess. What's funny is that this isn't that complicated a rig for him.
All Legacy cabs, even Steve's, use Celestion G12 Vintage 30 speakers. Steve did this video in one take and just made it up as we shot. So he didn't mean to say that they were 30 watt speakers, he was trying to say they were Vintage 30's. Vintage 30 speakers are 60w. It was a simple case of confusing the model number with the wattage.
that thing with the millions of speakers is so true! everytime i played with my band u could barely hear anything, the only thing u could hear were the drums
awesome setup

Lol, I love the Van Halen Phaser. It's awesome when guitarists use other guitarists gear. Shows they aren't all about brands and names.

Why Doesn't he talk about the v3 head he has there?
TomAkaGuitarHero 3 years ago
Technically it wasn't a V3. It was a prototype Legacy in the chassis of a V3.
