  • awesome setup

  • Wow this make me quit playing guitar!

  • He has very long fingers

  • Steve is all me me me. Sounds pretty self centered. Might be a border line narcissist.

  • @gtrmusic69 I don't think you understand light-hearted humor.

  • @gtrmusic69 Yeah man he's joking, Vai is a very humble guy

  • He's so funny.

  • Chau Esteban

  • i also thought it was "tchau"! lol

  • He said "Tchau" in the end of video ? Tchau = Bye in Portuguese... Brazilians use to say "bye" and know americans saying "tchau" ? xD

  • @moyses3005vips No he said "ciao" is the italian way to say hallo or goodbye (Vai parents are Italians, born near Milan)

  • @umbyronco85 looks like all guitarists wih italian ancestry or italian sounding names are geniuses - Steve Vai, MAB, Satch, John Petrucci....

  • @virgoptrex Pretty much. I call it the Paganini Complex. Al DiMeola should be included in that category.

  • It's the carvin 3 channel amp, different tubes different voicing

  • What is the head, labeled "V3" on his Carvin?

  • @freaxxx That's the Carvin V3

  • this guy is so cool i like him good people

  • Vai has a good attitude in Life.

  • jeez can he play with guitar cord n amp without all that other crap lol!

  • Hahahahah! Steve Vai is so fucking awesome :D

  • Steve's cool ....great rig ... I've got the Jem, Jemini and G-System. Now looking for the older Legacy head with footswitch.

  • Looks like he needs Bob Bradshaw.

  • if you bring a guitar equipped with his pick-ups guitar to carvin.... or play a legacy with one... you get his basic tone... all the jackass's who say it's not true either haven't tried it or have no idea how to set up an amp

  • If you want to see his FULL (i think) rig and racks, pm me! He has much more stuff than shown here

  • eu ouvi bem? ele disse "tchau" no final do vídeo? Oo

  • @M4Xguitar - Disse HUAHSU é q tchau vem do italiano "ciao" :) se ele conhece do português ou do italiano aí só perguntando AUHS

  • @AndreFTG ele é italo-americano e tal

  • I love it when he says "Just like Steve Vai!!" :D :D

  • i've played one of his legacy's and it does not sound like a stock legacy.

  • @brownbigb I've sent Steve amps to play around the globe. I've worked one on one with his tech's and studio assistants. Steve's amps are all stock.

  • @carvinguitars i didn't look inside, but it did not sound like the legacys i tried at the carvin store. i am not saying they are not stock. i am saying they sounded different.

  • @carvinguitars He says they have "a little secret sauce"... I'm guessing they arent stock

  • @TheBritishArmyClan The Serect Sauce was the grill. Nothing special about his cabs. In fact, I just shipped standard Legacy cabs right from stock to NY for Steve to play on the Experience Hendrix tour. Steve is borrowing cabs from a dealer in Holland for the Steve Vai festival this month as well.

  • @carvinguitars ah sweet

  • @TheBritishArmyClan i got a carvin too a combo 2x12 ...i think they give you the BASE.the rest is up to you :P

  • @brownbigb Did you play through Steve's rig with his guitar? Steve's main guitars (EVO and FLO) are pretty unique. Plus the room size is going to change what you hear. Carvin amp rooms at the stores aren't huge. The amp does sound different (as any amp would) in a larger room.

  • @carvinguitars it was in a living room, but it was with the evo2. it was just the amp there, not his whole rig.

  • @brownbigb usual situation.

  • @brownbigb you will NEVER sound like vai....even thru the same exact rig.... because of his touch. Ted Nugent has a story of playing thru Eddie Van Halens rig and became upset when he didn't sound like Eddie....and he was playing Frankenstein thru eddies cabs, amps and pedals......so you will NEVER SOUND LIKE VAI......even if you play the same exact rig.

  • @imak9114 who said i would? i have never claimed that. idiot.

  • @brownbigb idiot huh? #1 I never made fun of you bro...watch it. second his amps do sound like a stock amps. I just stated that his amps sound different because of all the things they run thru and his playing style.....so just because you played thru one doesn't mean shit. . . his Rig will always sound different than a legacy head standing alone.... idiot.

  • @imak9114 no. you stated that i will never sound like vai because i don't have his touch. you didn't say anything about legacy, or all the things that it's run through. i played one of his legacies just guitar-amp. not his whole rig. so it doesn't sound different because of that. you made a comment unrelated to mine, and now you are backpedaling. still off base though.

  • @brownbigb When he comes to Portugal he never brings his amps. He borrows some from the Carvin distributor. He does the same in other countries.

  • LOL Such a funny man. What a great musician and a humble human being. I've yet to see Stevie show even a hint of arrogance of disinterest in shows/interviews/meet and greet.

    Awesome guy.

  • How did he switch channels on the Legacy back then? They don't have midi ins or outs?

Maybe he only uses the clean channel, because he always has extra distortion pedals like Jemini or Boss DS1

  • @mrleijzer He used the Footswitch. You don't' see it in the video but he does use it. He also uses the standard footswitch with his new Legacy II.

  • no fan!

  • anyone else think its weird that he has 5 different wah pedals on one pedal board?

  • @thornjungle6661 its not 5 wahs, its 2 wahs (i think one is for the main signal and the other is for the fender amp) and a whammy, a main volume and a volume for the fender

  • hi carvinguitars...can you tell me if steve runs that fender amp clean through all his playing? so as to fatten up his tone?

  • Steve does say he runs it clean about half the time. This is his rig from 2007 prior to the Legacy II. For master class performances in 2009 and 2010 it has been only Legacy II amps played live.

  • Solo se puede tener el material que tiene Steve Vai si tienes dinero. Si no, solo te queda conformarte con una guitarra que la puede tener cualquiera, y un simple amplificador!! añadele un par de pedales y da gracias!

  • he quickly jumped from presenting the rig :(

  • Steve Vai is just about the coolest human being on the whole danged planet. I feel proud to be one of his fans! Nobody else in this business treats his people like he treats us! Thank you Stsve for being such a great accessible guy as well as being a world class musician. I will never be able to play like you because God didnt give me that level of ability but i will strive always to do the very best that i can based on your example to us all.

  • wat does he use to put the amps into stereo for the speakers?

  • Just like steve vai! HAHAHAHAHAH

  • LOL, vai was going to say stadium at 4.57 - but then realised he doesnt play stadiums anymore lol. i stil love vai

  • How much does his new legacy amp cost?, where can i watch a demo of it?, i live in costa rica n wanna buy one, but they don't come here, i wanna get at least two cool amps but no prices or demos anywhere of the new legacy

  • cool

  • is this the tour where "where the wild things are" was filmed?

  • yes it is

  • @Guitareben Yes it is that tour.

  • @carvinguitars - so how much does the Carvin Legacy II rig cost?

  • @Mike51020 For USA customers, get pricing at carvin-dot-com Outside USA, please visit carvinworld-dot-com

  • Stunning to see Steve Vai ALWAYS !!!

    ROCK N ROLL

  • Steve vai is the best !

Stevy Sounds and Music Video channel

  • ha detto "ciao" alla fine!!

  • whoa i think i saw an Eddie Van Halen phaser in there :D

  • everyone has a EVH phaser :P

  • Whats that fernandes box behind? :)

  • He talks a little bit like Christopher Walken at times.

  • LOL YES!!!!

  • they make custom what?

im french and my speakers broke so i cant put the volume high...

  • elephants

  • grill clothes.

  • "so you can be unique just like Steve Vai!"

haha reminds me of my uncle, this guy seems like a lot of fun. Isn't just caught up in the fame like a lot of the pop rock idiots are...

  • he's the man

  • lol 3:15 steve sound like the joker from battman XD

  • Um...Why didn't he mention the amazing Carvin V3 sitting right on top of his Legacy?

  • that was a prototype for his new Legacy II amp in a V3 chassis. He mentioned it but we edited it out to alleviate confusion and comparisons to the V3 since the Legacy II was just a rumour at the time of this video's release.

  • Oh. Thanks.

  • This guy must be really cool to hang out with....he also probably has guitar juice running in his vains.

  • he is just so coooool !.-?! im so surpreist-

i im a great lucky fan from scandinavia!

and he problebly dont even know how cool he is, but -.... -man i love him! !you! if you´ll ever see it great talent but the least great personality -josua l

  • steve vai great guitars

  • If I were Vai then I would take my pedalboard to Pete Cornish. He would easily reduce hum. But Vai's setup is still pretty badass. What a sense of humor.

  • "just like steve vai!!!"

    hahaha,i like that part..

  • what an awesome pedalboard

  • WOW! That's a shit load of in and outs! Not to mention panning left and right and adding more to the center plus worrying about noise reduction and... AAAGGGHHH! You just blew my brains out. But what doesn't kill us makes us WISER!! Thanks for the up dude! ;)

  • what pedal is the large grey pedal????

  • TC Electronic G-System ;)

  • penso proprio di si...dice ciao...

  • i wanna be unique just like steve vai XD

  • I wanna' grill cloth =(

  • ma alla fine dice CIAO?

but at the end hi say "CIAO"?

  • he could also said "Tchau" wich means the same as Ciao, but it is Portuguese no Italian ...

  • I always like how Steve seems really down to earth. I've never seen an interview where he seemed disinterested in the interview and he never acts like he's bigger than the world. Absolutely a class musician~!

  • I greatly thank you for the reply! Can you explain how how does the 'slaving' part using the two Legacy amps? Is there a drawing of the whole rig that I can consult? I really like his sound and want to try to obtain similar equipment and learn some of his tunes. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

  • Thaks for this tour Steve! This is very special about Steve Vai! What other genius guitar player will invite you in to see their tone machine! This guy is super cool! My only problem is that we buzzed by that stereo amp that creates the outs to the stage 4x12's. I'd really like to know what brand that is. Also, Steve said he was taking a send out from the Carvin head, but he did not say if it was from the 'emulation send' or if he had a dummy load/speaker simulator on the high voltage output?

  • The Legacy heads power his 4x12 cabs. The power amp in the rack is a Carvin TS100 tube power amp, this is what powers the custom stereo monitor Carvin built for him. Steve's TS100 has the chrome front plate. The same amp is still made but with a brushed metal plate instead of chrome.

  • Ah what a rig! Gotta love Vai :)

  • So you can be unique, just like Steve Vai....everybody is unique, not necessarily a show off but unique!

  • "So you can be unique, just like Steve Vai." - that was good one. :)))

  • ''i hope you dig it'' lol

  • Hehe...complicated set-up.

Wish we could have seen it in more detail.

  • hev pedal whammy ibanez cool

  • EVH Phase in there. good choice Steve.

  • thats not for being EVH but mxr dude 8-)

  • super cool guy nice attitude for a rock god

  • hello Steve, from Madrid-Spain....I`m a very big fan and hope you see other time here on concert... I`m a guitarris left hand, but I play gibson les paul custom... what do you think about? I never saw you play Gibson guitars.... thank`s sincerely Santyrush

  • 3:38....who's the girl on the right?

  • ann marie calhoun

  • STEVE is Very FUNNY GUITAR GOD!!

  • in one of his videos he said that he liked to have things simple(he ment his equipment not his playing)than why dont he just get 20cabs with each heads and than plug his pedals and stuff like that in?? simple and great AND FUCKIN COOL!!!

  • GREAT video! 5 stars!

love his personality! what a nice guy!

i have a crap load of equipment on stage too because i'm a looping artist... hope carvin doesn't mind me posting a video response.

LOVED my carvins in the 80s when i did heavier music. I used to take lessons from Satriani in Berlkley in '86, so i loved the tones Vai was getting from such an inexpensive amp.

plus i used to have a sweet carvin electric with an acoustic pickup and stereo outs...

  • Not true. As a solo artist, Steve is way more popular now than he was in the 80`s. The bands he was in then are not as popular now, Whitesnake, DLR band, but back then he could not go on a tour as a solo artist where now he can. Far more people know who Steve Vai is now as in the 80`s.

  • 4.58, and 5.00 - i know steve was going to say studio?.........but id like to think he was about to say stadium....then realised hes not as popular as he was in the 80's lol

  • I think he is talking about when they play smaller places....

  • obviously. my point is he almost says stadiums, but hes not big enough for that so he has to correct.

  • I believe you are correct. He was going to say studio. But he obviously didn't mean in a "big studio"....I think he got his words crossed. It has nothing to do with not being popular in the 80's; he had already been a member of Alcatrazz . He was playing with Roth in the biggest arenas imaginable. Trust me, Vai was more popular back then, if not more, because of the exposure from playing with Zappa, Alcatrazz, Roth and Whitesnake and was on all the covers of the major guitar magazines...

  • have u read what i put? do u think id be watching vais videos if i didnt know about him? i said he wasnt as popular as he WAS in the 80s. and i think he was gona say studio became he records so much, thats all. have a read of what ive written b4 u get urself mixed up

  • tHAT STUFF IS SO COOL!

  • shit million dollars for that thing?!

  • shit and he has two of them?!

  • i wanna be unique like steve vai!

  • i would love to own that rig, or just play with gear like this one time:P

    steve is awsome!!! totally unique:P:P

  • And the Legacy II??? Any news about the release??

  • awesome

  • Damn! so many speakers and effects and cables running all over the place. And I rack my brain trying to get a decent sound with just an amp and a multi-effect pedal, I'd go crazy with a set-up like that!

  • cept the only problem is..it costs a million dollars......haha steve vai is a ledgend

  • Most talk is about grill cloth hmmmm

  • such a genius and still acts like a perfectly normal human being.. this goes for the joe, too! you got to become their's fan

  • what a great gear!!!! amazing!!! and he's one of my influences .......

  • HA HA HA you can be unique! just like STEVE VAI!!! ha ha steve is awesome

  • I wanna be unique too! Just like Steve Vai!

  • You can be unique. If you're unique like him you're like him so not unique... lool.

  • No, it's fully possible to be just as unique as Vai, without being LIKE him, if I have the same amount of uniqueness, but in a different way. :P

  • hey what he means is that u can be unique in ur own way... lol he doesn't mean that u can be unique meaning being exactly like him... HAHA

  • Wow, he's such a friendly bloke. He always seems so nice and down-to-earth. :)

  • what fender amp does he use

  • supersonic

  • many thanks for info

  • was that a fender super sonic sitting between the two cabs??

  • Secret sauce. Yum. Can't buy that at Mickey Dee's.

  • Look at all that spaghetti of cables on his pedalboard.

  • what was on the other rack that was on the ground, or was there some secret sauce

  • he has a V3 on top of the legacy. does he use that also ? or is it just for show ?

  • He was trying one out, it is not part of his rig. Which is why he didn't mention it.

  • oh ... nice !!. i'll be getting either a v3 by january ... if i can get a good deal from my local dealer !

  • I love this guy, he's so cool.

  • Ciao Vai !!!

Vintage 80 speaker and Fender Revolution 48 ,

    it is my sound .

  • be unique, just like STEVE VAI!

  • he always smiles :)

  • COOL GUY ^^

  • Why isn't the Legacy rackmount, considering vai already uses rack gear? Just for visuals? It'd be a lot easier to just have everything you need in the rack + pedalboard.

Vai will be Vai, I guess. What's funny is that this isn't that complicated a rig for him.

  • a million dollars lol

  • A secret sauce hum ? . . . .

    ha funny . . .

  • Great guy!

  • He certainly is

  • El mejor, por lejos..

    Hola y chau!

  • steve è un uomo davvero umile e simpatico, sorride sempre...è un genio...steve vai the best!

  • CIAO!!!

  • All Legacy cabs, even Steve's, use Celestion G12 Vintage 30 speakers. Steve did this video in one take and just made it up as we shot. So he didn't mean to say that they were 30 watt speakers, he was trying to say they were Vintage 30's. Vintage 30 speakers are 60w. It was a simple case of confusing the model number with the wattage.

  • I am not able to find that grill cloth anywhere.can you please let me know where i can get one? also,,,,can i get it for my 212 legacy cabs????

  • The grill cloth option has not been made available yet.

  • I want that necklace, lol.

  • " ... just like Steve Vai!":D love how he says it :D

  • lol except that if you're "unique like steve vai", ur not really unique anymore :S I still love him tho

  • si il padre è milanese e di conseguenza steve è italo-americano

  • that thing with the millions of speakers is so true! everytime i played with my band u could barely hear anything, the only thing u could hear were the drums

  • Ah ah Steve said: "CIAO"

  • cool cabinet cover man!! i would love to have that..

  • i want a logo

  • Great clip. Could watch Vai talk gear and tone for hours!

  • Lol, I love the Van Halen Phaser. It's awesome when guitarists use other guitarists gear. Shows they aren't all about brands and names.

  • Why Doesn't he talk about the v3 head he has there?

  • Technically it wasn't a V3. It was a prototype Legacy in the chassis of a V3.

  • Ah, Ok. Thanks for the reply.
