@bobsolla Thanks, it was around $1000 to build the upper. I have another set of videos on building ARs that is a little better quality video if you want to check that out.
is that a alexander arms barrell on that? i know that they have the barrel/bolt combo on their website but I noticed that the longer barrels arent fluted like yours is. Just wondering if it was an AA barrel and what size it was. I been saving up to do a build like this for a while im glad someone put a video of it.
did u use the spanner wrench on thsi to tighten the jam nut if so what size one did u get so i know what one is the right size now place around me like lows or homedepot has the matlest mine dont lol
When you get a chance could you give us your thoughts on the billet side charge receiver? Do you think it improved the accuracy? How much heavier than a standard upper? Thoughts on the side charge feature?
Thanks for all of your vids, it is a huge help to guys like me. I am currently only a bolt gun guy, and getting ready to jump into the semi-auto world.
That didn't seem too difficult, i was thinking it would be worse. That is a real nice setup. I might have to be a copycat if you don't mind : ).. Man even im excited about your new build. Thanks for sharing dude
Wow, surprised you weren't that happy with the AA barrel. Did you end up selling it to off-set some of the cost of the Sabre? You mentioned a different trigger. What did you have in mind?
The AA barrel shot very well but it is a mass produced barrel and it was very finicky with 123 grain pills. As I would crank the velocity up the groups got huge. Unacceptable. The whole purpose of this project was to take the long range accuracy potential of the AR-15 to it's maximum with a standard (non-wildcat) chamber. As far as triggers I'm looking at the AA tactical trigger. Oh the old barrel is for sale at the 65grendel forum.
Update: I was lurking around at Rainier Arms and they had the Mega Tactical trigger in stock for a mere $86. It's a single stage like the AA but at half the cost I thought I would give it a try. Look for the installation and review!
Good vid! I always wanted to see a barrel install. Look forward to the next vid and the groups. Maybe a barrel break in vid would be a nice touch proir to shooting. I was keeping my fingers crossed you were going to do a group at 200 with the old barrel then with the new barrel for comparison. Good stuff!
I was going to do a comparison vid but I was just running short on time this weekend to try to squeeze this project in. I can tell you I shot it Sunday evening and the first five shoot group was better than anything that the old AA barrel ever produced with any load. Sub MOA with three UNDER .10". The other two were shooter error. As far as break in, I jjust cleaned it good before shooting and cleaned the crap out of it after 10 rounds. I was too excited to shoot it to do the correct break in.
awesome video!actually, very well detailed except where you didn`t add on quad rail.nice build!what did the upper build cost you?thanks!

@twpbaseball10 It's a Sabre Defence barrel. I had the AA barrel before and didn't care for it.

@curtispa My buddy just happened to have the right size. Not sure what that is though. YHM sells one but you won't find it at Lowe's either.

hey man awesome build video i got a couple of questions
1 what was the total cost of the build
2 do you need a special kind of gas tube/block for the 6.5?
Ryder0001 1 year ago
@Ryder0001 Standard rifle length gas tube. Used a .936" gas block (common).
Barrel/bolt= $550
Side charge reciever w/ carrier= $325
YHM handguards= $150
Misc stuff= $75

But there will be a 1000 yard video with the new barrel that you can compare to the old barrel :) LOL
