the best sounds you can get. great for basslines in alot of genres. even the producer for alanis morrisette used a minimoog on her albums. I used one of my recordings.
Having had synths for years and seen (heard) technology re-invent itself, I have to say that from the demo here, I can get same sounds from my mid 80's Roland Alpha Juno, ok no nice backlit knobs or teak case or sexy Moog badge, but still....
Great playing but the 1976 vid stomps the voyager... Its the mush. The new minis have more mush (and I dont mean FX). I admit I have a 1974... And side by side its just so much tighter than the new ones its ridiculous... But the new ones sound great if you dont want tight lows.
Well... actually I have had problems all the way due to unstable oscillators. I have it serviced for the third time now. But the friends that I have who own one too have no problems at all. I hate problems and I wish that Moog had told me to send it in and that they would make it work once and for all. Argh !!!
@davefrom2001 The instabillity was not random, but stillenot the same every time. It was REALLY bad and annoying. The problem has been fixed now, but MOOG did not manage to have it fixed for me in the warrenty period (even thougt I had it for repair at the official MOOG tech shop WITHIN the warrenty period). The problem kept on returning. Now finally ALL trimmers on the oscillator board have been replaced (at MY cost) an now it seems to be 100% stable (after 3 years in hell) ARGH !
dang, hammer fingers! Go easy on them keys, that's vintage gear there! You might have to sell that one day & I might be the buyer!
hehe j/k bro.
Great stuff ya gots there....you play great & it sounds fantastic. 2:49 ...that's too cool. Hey what's the space echo used for? Chorus? Reverb? Warmth? Cause I don't hear echo...and how do you go from space echo into pc? (interface?) Thanx
I had a blue Voyager when they where first released, I found that lead sounds where difficult to develop, although the basses are obviously instant. After playing with the Phatty (admittedly not for long) the range of leads looked greater (although thinner)
Ive now rebought an Andromeda (sold my first one when I got rid of everything before) but need to address my Moogless predictament!
The Andromeda sounds awesome..I love Moog, but I could never get a sound I really liked consistently--I've had 3--Rogue,Original Mini-Moog and Little Phatty..too bad the Voyager didn't work out..I would think for the extra money you would get alot more to fulfill your needs..again>analog vs digital war!
Don't get me wrong,Moog is great...if I were a richer man,I'd have a big collection of them. But I needed the money and they had to go for something a little more affordable!(newer analog modeling-korg,roland,novation.
That Di is SWEET,man! That is really nice!Wow! I might sell some stuff on ebay and buy one myself! Yeah, the Moog sit was sad,but someday I might get a Voyager and keep it till I die..those are the Holy Grail of analog heaven for me!
Well enjoy that Di,man! I have a Roland Sh 201 and really like it-alotta bang for your buck..you will not be disappointed by it (for sure!) -I live for my electronic muzik!
For the extra hundred bucks, your Di will definitely be worth it.. my 201 does the job but,.that acoustic piano sound on the Di and the mike thru the sound is awesome..makes me want one to add to my arsenal-;) Roland is greatly under rated! You'll LOVE IT!!
wow. what a sick instrument. Loved this vid from 7:40 on.. b4 tho I was gettin just a BIT tired of the C and sometimes F blues scale. It was nice to hear some synth jammin later on in the vid. Wish it didn't have to end! If i ever have cash to blow on stuff i don't need, Voyager is high on the list
Very nice playing but i'm really bored with this kind of Moog demos..you don't show the real synthesis power of the instrument..most of the patches you and many other Moog keyboardists use, are really simple and old and mainly demonstrate your playing style and not the power of Moog. I agree that its a performance instrument, but it has a lot more abilities!
Yeah, but it takes about 5 hours of menu diving and a 2 digit LED display to even create your own patch on a MicroKorg. Not to mention wonderfully tinny digital VCOs.
I see what you're saying, but I like seeing people use it as a performance tool, rather than using it for techo/ambient/noise type stuff. For instance, Nate Wilson from Assembly of Dust plays a MicroMoog, and he gets some amazing tones out of it, with only one oscillator. Not only that, but he uses it as an INSTRUMENT, not just to display the crazy sounds these great synths can make.
@Pacman1ac I AGREE!! Very skilled keyboardist, but this seems to be the majority of demos on youtube...guys who spend more time showing you there keyboards wizardry, and noodle abilities on a typical patch, rather than spending more time on the vast sound capabilities of this instrument.
Lot's of money ? No, but I have had the right priorities for the money I once had *LOL*. Quit smokin, quit drinking, quit whatever shit you are on and get yourself some nice gear that will last the rest of your life.
go from 4 poles to 2 poles, kaufmann u weenie why would u wan't to?. however overall not bad,u did represent the "Voyager" it's Not a "Model D" but it'll have to do. it's certainly,a lot prettier than the model D,with all that blue,"T and A".guess i'll have to buy,one now,and put her to the test.
I have had a vintage Minimoog too and I also have a ARP Odyssey. I tell you... the Voyager is a better synth, that's a fact. Vintage is nostalgic, yeah yeah... but that's it. The 2-pole filer setting gives you a more aggressive lead sound. Nice feature... you can choose between 1, 2, 3 or 4 poles. One of the most interesting features about the Voyager is called "Pot mapping"... I haven't even touched that subject, hehe. Everyone: Go buy a Minimoog Voyager ! :-)
i've had my voyager 5 or 6 years and i've been able to nail the stevie wonder/gary wright bassline but can't get the real creamy leads. like rick wakeman's "white rock" album caravan's "better by far" album or the phillip saisse song "fusionesque" the voyager has a certain grittiness that makes it impossible. all of the synth legends would agree with me unless you can prove us all wrong.
You're not using enough external hardware then. What newcomers to either the original Minimoog and the new Voyager don't know is that the Minimoog itself has recognizable sounds. But it was also processed through many types of effects boxes over the years. Unfortunately, to get those sounds means adding some more expensive hardware to your studio and even then you won't be using the original effects boxes like keyboardists did on those original tracks.
WOW! I never realized that my video has that effect on women... or is it a strategic move to get something veeeery expensive that she want's? Anyway: Moog rules !
I have had a model D, but I sold it because it was too unstable for live performances. No fun at all. I also have a ARP Odyssey which has a very nice sound, but is not very user friendly. Have you made some videos with your model D ?
Sure, the Voyager is not a vintage Moog, but it is absolutely fantastic, if you know how to handle them. I actually prefer the Voyager to the vintage Minimoog. There is too much nostalgic blabla going on about the vintage stuff (and I am pretty nostalgic myself;-)
Cool tool! I live about 1 hr away from where Robert Moog "retired" in Asheville, NC. A beautiful, artsy city tucked into the Blue Ridge Mts. Has a great progressive music scene that fully embraced his creative genius.
You are an aweseome player mate. But to be honest i am very tired seeing every decent synth player on youtube just tap their fingers vigarously through the octaves available. Im a very that this functions as a good sound test, but could you play something more...i dunno...pumping?:) Well done though!
Did you submit this video to Moog? After seeing this, I am now amazed at the capabilities of the new Voyager. Really, this is the first video that i have seen that demonstrated all that you did. Good Job!

Is it strictly monophone still? Or can you get pad sounds and stuff? And whats the black square in the middle? So many questions...

@HowNotToRap
The black square is little bit like Kaoss Pad (from korg).
I'm not sure what it controls, but i assume it controls the filters, and the more space fill when you touch it, the more it does.

I have had a model D, but I sold it because it was too unstable for live performances. No fun at all. I also have a ARP Odyssey which has a very nice sound, but is not very user friendly. Have you made some videos with your model D ?

Bad sound-the old minimoog is another planet

Sure, the Voyager is not a vintage Moog, but it is absolutely fantastic, if you know how to handle them. I actually prefer the Voyager to the vintage Minimoog. There is too much nostalgic blabla going on about the vintage stuff (and I am pretty nostalgic myself;-)

Ancaja123 3 years ago
Yes, they can run through the filter...

Im a very that this functions as a good sound test, but could you play something more...i dunno...pumping?:) Well done though!

great!
But the small stone and the ring modulator take away a lot of especially the high end (unless they are modified) even when they're of...
The sound might be stronger if yoy'd take them out of the signal chain, I guess.

sweet tweak changing the filter to two poles!
I do that on my Little Phatty all the time, it's great for more cutting lead sounds as you say

Did you submit this video to Moog? After seeing this, I am now amazed at the capabilities of the new Voyager. Really, this is the first video that i have seen that demonstrated all that you did. Good Job!
