I know this song. It is still played on the "oldies" radio station around these parts. John Sebastian actually played on the green of our town (long) while back and he played this song. A very nice man and wonderful performer!I think he got his start in Grennwich Village, New York, that was the starting point for many fine folk musicians As a side note I have also seen the show as teenager and the famous John Travolta was in it every week, before he "hit the bigtime" as they say.
John Sebastian actually was born in Greenwich Village NYC....I looked it up ..I also see he is coming to a small playhouse in our state this summer...might have to take my kids to see him...

@jimmy143ist Sorry. I don't sing this song. I recorded a friend doing it at the Hong Kong Folk Society, when I was living in Hong Kong.

Roland did a great job with this delightful song....unfortunately he was not well supported by the recording media lol!

It's the best we could do with my wife's little digital camera - which no longer works, so we were lucky to get this much.

There is a section of the song "Sweet Escape" performed by Gwen Stefani that sounds inspired by this theme song.
Compare the two songs.

Okay, I had a listen. You may be right, but it could be a coincidence.

Thanks for all that information. Somehow I missed seeing it - but I never did watch much TV, so I would have missed a few good shows.

I never watched Welcome Back, Kotter, but this song is always floating around somewhere. I know a gospel parody of it about the prodigal son.

Neither have I, and I'm not familiar with this song.
