As a bassoon player for 6 years, I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen/heard it. Absolutely incredible - especially given the difficult nature of the instrument, which hasn't seen a significant change in its build or key mechanisms in over 100 years. Not many people have the focus and singular dedication - not to mention raw natural skill - to raise their talent to this level. Notice she's playing a Heckel - they are prized world-wide as being the best of bassoons and are very expensive.

Here's the thing: Chinese is a pitch based language. If you change the way you say a word, suddenly the meaning of the word changes. That gives 'native' speakers a huge advantage in the field of music. Perfect pitch is far FAR more prevalent among people with pitch based languages like Mandarin, etc. So we see many Chinese that are adept at complex music while us westerners struggle. My question is, with so many talented Asians... why don't we see more composers? Or is it all just mimicry?
