Chris was always my favorite skater. He trained at my rink for a while with John Nicks and he was amazing to watch. I used to come in earlier than my lesson time so I could watch him. He was so friendly and kind to everyone. He kinda reminds me of Johnny Weir; talented but hard to train but when he's on, he kicks butt!

Before we criticize the comments of these people, remember that bi-polar disorder was not as well understood when Christopher was young - and undiagnosed - as it now is.

Were they interviewed now, their opinions might be different.

In any case, his loss was a great tragedy

the article that said he was beat up in an "attempted robbery" turned out to be a drug deal gone bad. sad. RIP

Dick Button was never able to hide his contempt for Christopher Bowman -- he never felt that Chris devoted enough of his life to skating and he [Button] seemed jealous of his natural talent. It was a bit like Salieri's feelings towards Mozart (in the movie). I just turn down Button's commentary when Chris skates. Christopher Bowman is just thrilling to watch skate.

@debabe7 Yeah i'm sure Dick Button with his multiple World championships and two count them two Olympic gold medals was jealous of Christopher Bowman. He hated to see someone with that kind of talent just waste it like Bowman did.

I think David Bowman has to be one of the best skaters I have ever seen. I heard about his death, and its a major loss to everyone because not only was he was great entertainer, he also seemed like a great person.

Thanks for posting this...I've been watching videos of Christopher's skating, and this "fluff" piece was interesting to see both for Christopher's comments and Frank Carroll's. What a great skater he was, and my impression is also that he was a decent person who unfortunately was destroyed by drugs and alcohol. Wish he could have been helped in time...

Frank Carroll is eating his words about now.  Christopher is remembered as one of the greats, if not The Greatest skater ever.

Well, he is endeed remembered for being great but he is also remembered for becoming one of the greatest trainwrecks ever. I don't think Frank is eating his words at all, he was trying to do his job just as Burka, Cranston and Nicks did. What I feel is that none of them understood what he really needed: understanding. He could had got the competitive record everyone expected him to have with less preasure from everyone.
