  • Not Kanagawa, Not Kagawa, TOKUSHIMA is correct regeon.

  • Japan fascinates me

  • Their timing is amazing for such a large group

  • Awa odori is in Tokushima, NOT Kagawa!!! 'Awa kingdom' = feudal province of Tokushima.

  • Nobody said it was in Kagawa.

  • @photojpn

So, this is an Awa Odori festival that happens in Kanagawa? I knew that there were groups from outside Tokushima who perform this style, but I didn't know that there were any Awa Odori festivals besides the big one in Tokushima. I lived there for a few years. Fantastic party!

  • @nanogibbon Besides this one in Yamato, Kanagawa, there are quite a few Awa Odori festivals in the Tokyo area. They are all children of the one in Tokushima. I have videos for most of them such as in Koenji (largest outside Tokushima), Minami-Koshigaya (Saitama), Kita-Urawa, Nakamurabashi, Mitaka, Kagurazaka, Kitamachi, and Inagi. Search for "awa odori" plus any of these place names and you'll find more vids.

  • I think the Awa dance expresses seawaves like a picture of "The Great Wave" by Katsushika Hokusai...

  • みんなは 嬉みたい!=)

  • LOL, Japanese morris-dancing...

  • I love Awa Odori Dances. Very spiritual and mysterious.

  • It's the Bubble Dance! There were some demonstrators performing this outside of Kyoto Station that let us try to dance with them, so fun!

  • "Awa" is this case does not mean bubble. It is the old place name for Tokushima in Shikoku where the dance originated. The kanji characters are different for "bubble."

  • Fast stepping, hand waving, body moving found only in Kanagawa-ken, obon odori, an awesome

    event in August.

  • looks like a bollywood flick :p

  • やばい!

    私はこのお祭はしたいたち見ますよ!

    愉しいですか?

    I wonder if i said that right...^o^

  • めちゃ楽しいですよ☆

  • Japanese odori is really unique and powerful somehow,

  • Something similiar is shown on animes but it usually involves dancing around a tower

  • neat but what exactly is the point of this festival?

  • It is a kind of Bon Dance which has Buddhist origins for welcoming back the departed spirits of our ancestors in summer. The Awa Odori is one of the more unique Bon Dance styles in Japan.
