@andrewMLhero The holocaust is 6 million. However if you add the rest of the war (even if only in Europe), the number of deaths is well over 20 million.
I... I don't know exactly how to put this, sir, but are you aware of what a serious breach of security that would be? I mean, he'll see everything, he'll... he'll see the Big Board!
The movie was due to show on Nov. 22, 1963. They delayed it because of the JFK assassination. Also, in the original movie when Slim Pickens is going over the survival kit, he says , "A fellow could have himself a pretty good time in Dallas with all this stuff." They later changed it to Vegas. The movie came out in January 1964. George C. Scott got a standing ovation from the other actors when he went through all the 5 steps he went through uncut about taking advantage of Gen. Ripper's actions.
You gotta admit that Turgison was correct here. If there was no Doomsday Machine, the US could have just nuked USSR to hell and save the whole world from an all-out, global nuclear war. They would also have saved tens of millions of Americans.
But of course in the end it did not matter since they all died. Unless of course they found a Mine Shaft Base.
Well, no. The movie was (weirdly) accurate on poking fun at the "I'm not saying that we would get our hair mussed" attitude of Turgidson. In the early 60's, offensive capabilities of the URSS were grossly overrated, but DEFENSIVE capacity was underrated. A first strike conducted exclusively via airpower would have been not as final as Turgidson hoped - the Russian would have given time and forces to retaliate, with conseguences far worse than "20 to 30 millions dead" of the movie.
Perhaps, but an all-out strike would still be a better alternative than waiting for Ripper's group nuke Russia, and then get bombed by it, and then sending the rest of str. air force to nuke them.
No again - as said by the President in the movie, the best alternative was the Russkies suppressing Ripper's wing, and NOT retaliating afterwards - being talked into believing the attack had been a personal initiative. Nuclear warfare was, at the beginning of the 60's, a no-win situation - NO ONE could have survived a nuke exchange in a "victorious" position. That's why after Cuba US and URSS toned down the confrontation - they both realized how close to mutual defeat they had been.
neither one technically killed anyone, just ordered the killings with a few exceptions. but yes, mussilini did, or at least tried to, kill more people. i just dont think the US knew the full extent until after the fall of the soviet union due to all the secrecy, which was after this movie was made
Can you explain what Mussolini has to do with the Soviet Union? Or are you instead referring to Stalin? Based on what I've read, I'd say he did kill just about as much as Hitler, something leftist idiots tend to forget. And still, none of them come anywhere even close to Mao, another disgusting idol of theirs who killed more than those two put together! In any case, Mussolini was just a buffoon who needed his ass wiped every time he fucked up, and in doing so didn't manage to kill as many.
i was tired that day and had no idea what i wrote until i read it over again, yes i was thinking of stalin and, but i was right with the hitler thing, himmler ordered the executions, and as for mussolini, i think that was a joke or something. idk or care
That is precisely the idea, General. That is precisely the idea.
Stains, get Premier Kissov on the Hotline.

Kill 10-20 million. Somehow Hitler is still worse than you.
Tell me how that line makes sense.

"I say 'No more than 10 to 20 million people killed.'"
I think we'll be hearing that a little more later.

@truthaddict11 It's not that he's playing the role seriously, he is using a deadpan delivery.
