  • Wow, people who said this was HCC either found some great alcohol or are trolling. This isn't remotely similar

Great dance though and fun to do. Just wish I had the footwork down.

  • Some of the steps are Cavan Reel Traditional.

  • This is outstanding. I tried to understand this one and gave up early on. It is so complex. The diagonals have me confused. Is any of this a Cavan Reel?

  • Skirts + blouses of days ago.

  • This set was based on the 8 hand reel and several different parts from other set plus a few make-uppy bits thrown in for god luck. Me oul fella Tommy King was da mastermind behind it and is dancing in first tops with his back to you.

  • this is like the 8 hand reel accept it has bits added in and twists in it! :)

  • Sorry, it's me again: This Dance is sooooo grrrrrrr8!

    IMHO:

    Tarbolton Reel: 64 bars

    Longford Collector: 64 bars

    Sailor's Bonnet: 48 bars

Excuse me again: This dance is really great!

  • Yez are all wrong. It's a version of the High Caul Cap done to the Cavan Reel step with the Roscommon Set stuck in the middle to confuse ye all. Or something like that. And Pat says no way!

  • According 2 Comhaltas (Foinn Seisiún 2) the tunes are: Tarbolton/ Longford Collector/ Sailor´s Bonnet

  • "... maybe Pat Murphy will ...."

    No, unfortunately not!

  • Again:

    This video is soooo gr8!!!!

  • Reminds me of the Morris Reel - It's missing the return chain and back to back though. The figure reminds me of the ladies chain, except obviously it's men doing it. Fun to watch :)

  • Well you haven't danced it in a long time!Only half of double quater chain of High caul cap is used.(the side step does not square all the way around but goes left and right as in Morris real)

  • Viscusalbum is about right - it does look like the Morris Reel in the chorus part. The figures are varied, the last one reminds me of the last fiure of the sixteen hand reel with the bridges.

  • correct You are close

  • High Caul Cap ... This is a common dance .. In Commisún it's danced in figure comp's

  • I would suggest you read Ar Rinncide Foirne the Commisún book. this may improve your knowledge of those dances

  • Yes, this is High Cauled Cap. Danced to a reel music instead of single reel music.

Steps are used from set dancing (low to the floor)instead of soft shoe step dancing.

This dance is probably the most popular is ceili dancing.

  • Sorry, I don't see anything that looks like HCC for more than 8 bars at a time.

  • Aah relief...

there are still people dancing the HighCauled Cap and who Know what they are talking about.

    thanks.

  • well, after much stamping and flailing about I can do the step...well...at least I can sort of do it in place! Couldn't possibly house around yet. But thanks so much for posting this brilliant footage!

  • hi jedwentz, the step is actually that of the cavan reel set. One of the women dancing in this set was my dance teacher and we went on to win some all irelands with the cavan reel.the step is treble back two three, the back is almost a jump down. Both men and ladies start on the right foot

  • It's SUPER long too!

  • Thats interesting cuz it's hard shoe steps. These days figure dancing is usually done in soft shoe.

  • It's as if someone put the High Cauled Cap, the Connemara and the Williamstown in a blender and set it on high.

  • Ha ha ha, my thoughts exactly - and don't forget the 16-Hand Reel!

  • Hi gerard butler here, whats the name of this set, its mighty...

  • Tom King of the Tara Ceili Band has the information on the set. Yes it was mighty where would you find any better these dancers where naturals.

  • I'm fascinated by this dance and I'm lucky to have the video already downloaded. Question: Is the figure of the two top gents (1:50 - 1:52)- they beat their own left feet- known to anybody?

  • To Cuchullain may be you will notice the first top gent is Tom King Sean Nos dancers he

also uses this slap in his Sean Nos dance.Show boating was not restricted to solo dances.

  • Improvisation is the name of the game! Although sets may be written down for posterity, the individuality of styles that particular dancers bring to a set cannot be.

  • Your coments on the set are very accurate astute obsever

  • Thx LOL ;) I aim to please!

  • @Cuchullain10

French Acadian Dancers use that action a good deal in their dances.

  • in the beginning this looks almost like a version of the Morris reel. But its not.

  • It seems to have elements of Ceili & Stepdancing (the toes, shuffles,(?)). We were taught to keep contact with the floor, but this group (and its speed) is amazing!!

  • Any name to this set do you know? Is an interesting combo of figure & set dancing elements. I know that in the 1970s there was a trend for some teachers to invent figures into sets particularly for set competitions. I remember at that time once being taught a Cashel Set version with a battering jig step figure! :)

  • Really Great!!!

    Thanks!
