  • Do you have a DeviantArt account? I would love to see a gallery of your work.

  • Question:

Something I've noticed, you like to keep your pencil blunt during shading? I guess if you keep it sharpened it'll give it streak marks? I always wondered why I was bad at shading large areas and it might be because of a sharpened pencil.

I guess my question is, when you need to shade large areas is it better to keep the pencil blunt?

  • AWESOME

  • thank you for taking yo time to teach us.

  • Have you drawn any cars, well if your havent, there is usually a sharp edge with a dark shade to it, but i can never be able to get it right, its disturbing, is there a way to do it.

  • yea

  • @upsm4sh but you also have to consider the surface area of the skin to see how much shadow to use ^_^ im trying to learn how O__O

  • omg can u draw me kairi and namine from kingdom hearts?

  • good shit amigo

  • thanks,i feel good again.i thought that i sucked at drawing there for a while...altough it was nice.i do better..

  • That is so great! I would love to be able to draw like that! I would like a little advice though. When I draw, I can never get the shading part down pat. Are there any really good art class's you might recomend, or maybe drawing books? this is great, but just a little too fast. =) thanks for posting, youre really great and I want to be like you!

  • Thanks for the kind words. Check out my Drawing multi character techniques here on you Tube. It's more advanced but also more comprehensive. The most important thing is to keep your light source consistent

  • 45 minutes?! omgosh. i aspire to become like this. maybe a little worser than this is also fine :O praccttiisee.

  • Would you do custom work for any one? this is a very nice picture I want to someone who can draw a dragon that i want to put onto my back ( i wish i could draw myself but reality tells me i suck ) i would even consider small payment for a drawing.

  • Awesome vid! Great Wording!!

  • your vary quite.

  • How much time do you spend shading??

Because I am kinda impatient and I know I need to spend more time on the details and stuff!

how much time did you spent in the total shading of a big drawing like this dragon?

  • Hi, This piece took me about 30 minutes from start to finish for the shading part. The line work with the shading took approx. 45 minutes. Once you get the basics of the anatomy and line work down and memorised the shading is just a matter of following the direction of the light source and shade on the opposite side of where the light would hit.

  • awesome could you like post a video teaching me to shade w/o rubbing @_@

  • You use a chisel point or a regular ponit for the pencil?

  • Hi,

I normally use a standard machine sharpener but a chisel is just as good.

    Ed

  • you don't sharpen the pencil throughout the entire drawing?

  • This shading segment took about 45 minutes to completely shade. Yes I did sharpen the pencil. The first sharpening lasts about 15 minutes depending on how dark the value area.

Thanks for your interest. Keep on Drawing!

    Ed

  • how long did this take you?

  • The entire piece took 45 minutes to shade completely this video is approx half and the complettion can be found in Part 2-B.
