  • I know the feeling of being isolated because of mental health problems. I've had depression and psycosis. I went to a psyciatric unit for 9 months. the staff there treated me like shit, they even wrote in my medical notes about me being 'psycotic' and I was really hurt. I was treated like i was a cerial killer and isolated me from the other patients for about 5 months and could only see them about 2 times a day for half an hour at a time.

  • 'It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society'

the ideology of our modern society is sick and it's making people sick. There is nothing wrong with any of these people.

  • excellent clip can I please use it in my training for nurses and healthcare staff?

  • Anybody that has a problem with people with mental illness should be mindful of the statistic that 1 in 3 people suffer some time in their lives.. Then how would they feel about being stigmatised? Or if it was a loved one that developed a mental illness..

  • It's a good point that people with mental illness aren't dangerous.

    It's almost completly self distructive.

  • I am sick of saying nothing and everyone expecting me to be ashamed of my illness. People have ignored me, left me, dumped me and grabbed at my scars and laughed at me in public. I am not ashamed and I will talk to anyone about it to help rid the world of this ignorance. Suicide is a massive problem in today's society and if people just opened their minds and talked more I am sure the suicide rates would fall. I am not a mental illness on legs, I am a human being just like everyone else!

  • I'd rather gnaw my own arm off then listen to people discriminate. They are annoying.

  • The book is about Sue Kennedy, who is in the video 4 times and finishes the piece.

  • Buy "Explaining colours to a blind man". This will

enlighten many about living with mental illness.

  • knowing that people will treat you badly just makes me hide away even more and this makes me more depressed. i avoid telling people anything about me now. no one understands, i took an overdose a couple of months and my sister just told me to pull myself together

  • Hey Scifirocks, I am one of the people in the film, yes, stigma is shocking. I thought like you once but now I am very open about my mental health and refuse to have shame about it. I want to change things and I think the more people talk about it, the less reason there is to hide away. I am sorry about the insensitivity from your sister, that is terrible. But a lot of people do understand and have been where you have been. Me for example. Hope things get better, take care, Dolly

  • thanks, my sister tries to be nice but she just gets it wrong sometimes. i wish things were different too, it would makes things so much easier. if i had diabetes or something it would be easy to explain what was wrong

  • as a bipolar type 2 person with really bad lows but fine at the moment, also an oxford graduate and a mum of two lovely grown up kids and a wife of two husbands with mental health problems i have just watched the rednose day video and tears are streaming down my face listening to those amazing people..... good luck its a great campaign and we can all do something to help. i do work for my local mental health trust.

  • Hi wilderica999, Im one of the people in the film my ex husband has mental health issues so I can understand how you might feel, It was a privilage to take part in the film and I just hope my talking about losing my son helps someone who is struggling with what is a terrible illness, which affects not only the people who are suffering but thier familes as well. Good luck to you also, take care

  • if i look at my life so far all the best people in it including my dad live with mental health problems (is that the right word?)the whole film is amazing and you were so brave to talk about your son to help other people.have watched it many times i cry every time.i go to management meetings for our mental health trust as a service user rep and i want to get all the managers and consultants to watch it.hopefully AWP trust will sign up for the campaign like others have done. take care ok ok

  • Thanks for your comments, Yes mental health problems is propably one of the best words to describe what you said, Your also brave to try and help other people in this way by raising awareness of what people go through. I work for the British Red Cross and meet lots of people who deal with mental health issues and I for one am very glad for someone like you

  • Well done Dawni xxx

  • ...and YOU too! x

  • Its horrible knowing people treat people like you like this. I have Manic Depressive Bi-Polar dissorder, and watching things like this, It really gets to you. Do any of you out there know anything that can help me, other than medication?

  • Hi Scrappy!

There's lots of therories around what is useful in the treatment...why not contact your local MIND or RETHINK groups and see what they suggest.

  • @ScrapyyP I also have manic-depression. Those of us with this disorder have trouble absorbing B vitamins, which are brain food. Take a sublingual B-complex with extra B-12 liquid. Explore TrueHope's vitamin supplement EmPower Plus. The results are amazing. God bless you. Hang in there.
