  • Marty Robbins and Ray Charles surely had great versions of this song, but I've heard all the notable attempts and the best, by far, in my opinion is by LeAnn Rimes. The great Ted Daffan line -- "You were all the happiness I knew; born to lose, and now I'm losing you" -- is not included in the LeAnn version but overall she has the seminal version of this heartbreaking song, just as Linda Rodstadt's "Long Long Time" (Gary White's heartbreak classic) cannot and has not been touched by any others.

  • I never thought anyone could outdo Ray Charles with this song, but I was wrong. Marty, you absoulutely the most beautiful voice ever set to music.

  • I wish someone would post MAKING BELIEVE I got it on lime wire but it's a very good recording he never recorded it so please if you have PLEASE post it

  • Marty Robbins and Ray Price...the best renditions of this sad song.

  • I'd like to hear a full out recording of Marty doing this...

  • gut

bitte kann das jemand von Ray Charles hochladen?

  • With all his soul - I love his interpretations and his unique voice - simply great !

  • Again a song Marty sing so wonderful.

  • I love Marty Robbins and this song just reinforces that fact.

  • If you can find it, try listening to Dean Martin's version . Very nice.

  • There isn't a song that Marty sang that I didn't like. I always will love his music.

  • Tennessee Ernie Ford also did a version of this song... But I believe this is the best version of all times.. but I'm also a big fan of Marty Robbins.

  • @trcampbell74 Agreed this good and I love Marty's voice...but for me Ray Charles' version wins.

  • @backbeat64

Marty never actually recorded the song so it would have been interesting to see what a studio version would have been like. My own particular favourite version is by Johnny Rodriguez and Gene Pitney also did a very good recording of of it.

  • Marty, for my money, was the greatest

  • Magical!.........he (almost!) managed to keep a straight face through the performance.

  • Another nice one, Dave. Cheers, Les.

  • Marty Robbins was one of the best singers of all time.. He will always be in my heart.

  • I agree with everything you say about Marty Robbins. He was a pleasure to listen too & he was magic on stage. A proper gentleman

    Margaret

  • I'm so used to Dean Martin's version. This version, more C.& W. is VERY pleasant!!

  • this man has a voice that is pure and beautiful. You might like the rendition of Ray Charles but the quality of Marty voice is unequalled period.

  • I like both versions equally- good recommendation to listen to both. :)

  • I am a hugh, hugh fan of Marty Robbins, but I like Ray Charles' version better.

  • every song of marty's that i hear makes me love him all the more. he is awesome and there will never be another like him.

  • really like this song, yes the quality of his voice is beautiful, not heard the other versions, but I prefer the tone of Marty's voice.

  • This flows smoothly. I like Gene Pitney's version better but this is also one worth saving.

  • Ray Charles version is best. Marty's best is white sport coat!
