excellent technique's, this old san kyu remember's... I response to the comment regarding if the Uke holds on you to you, the throw becomes tighter and the tori continue's to roll into the mount and then a variety of options exist..
Can i ask why the videos show the different techniques in such a slow matter? In a real sparring match it goes so much faster and Tomoe Nage is really hard to do when your oponent is moving around and trying to avoid your grapples. I trained Judo for 5-6 years but sadly i had to quit, the interest of the art is still fresh in my mind tough :)
Hmm,..... why isn't the user rolling at the opponent after he reaches the ground ? On our training we are using the move of opponent (step forward / push) grabbing his kimono at the middle of ribs and pulling him at us (and a little up) , when he gets g above us we are moving the leg on belly and throw, keep grabbing, when the opponent hits ground we are rolling at him... Is this some other kind of tomoe nage? how is it named ?
@river013river If you mean that you're doing this throw, but just continuing the motion so you can, for an example, get into a osaekomi-waza, then it's the same throw.
Try to open uke up more and jump as far through his legs as possible (without losing control with the leg that carries him) for a more powerful, effective throw.
I once tomoe nage'd a guy who was chasing and catching me. I'd never tried it before, only seen it in a book. I did it as a last resort, and he went flying over my head. Whe he landed, I ran like fuck as he caught his breath. It's an awesome technique.
This is awesome. Always knew it as monkey flip. Dunno' where that term comes from but still. If you can get enough momentum, I like to place both feet in there abdomen and put enough force beneath them so they go flying and not just kinda' roll behind me
This throw is one of my favourite throws in judo. How to use it: Let's say you and your opponent are pushing each other forward and backwards, and then when he pushes you just lay down and pull him with you down simotaniously as you take your foot to the right/left of his crouch depending if you use right of left leg. Then when you've placed your foot in the right area push up and grab him towards you and he will fall behind you.
if you just straight up try to do the move, it wont work, so for any move, we practice a move called kozushi(breaking balance) and then execute the move
It's useful in judo more than in a normal fight, unless you get the timing perfect and throw them just as they strike and break there balance to their front. It's a useful throw no doubt but to use it in self defence you'd have to time it just right and make sure you roll on top of them when they land.
nicely done. The yoko tomoe nage seems tricky though. Really liked the "henka" one, never seen it before. I think I might just suggest it to my sensei. Salutations from a fellow judoka, 3ºkyu.
0mg uke doesnt know to ukemi and tori is only throwing him because its a practice and uke doesnt stand and resist. Tori, you cant make those technics so soft, non-balanced, and displaced in a real combat
dint u forget to finish it , we learn to do tomoe nage by doing wat he did but we stay with our enemy flip over us and while he is about to land we use his weight to role right back on top to finish him.
I love this takedown but my bjj teacher frowns on it. I land it about half the time. The sweep was pretty cool but there is also an armbar ther eif you maintain a sleeve grip.

For tomoe nage, the feet go on the stomach.
Maybe you're thinking of sumi gaeshi.

I do judo, and this is by far my favorite move. But I wouldn't use this in a serious fight.

It can be done, like in this video v=Djdy_fhvZuM . The guy is wearing a suit, which is almost as good as a gi.
It is also a great alternative if you`re good at ground fighting, cause if it fails you can go straight to a juji gatame (arm bar) or pull guard.
If I didn`t like to fight on the ground I`d try a different throw, even though I think I can pull this one off.
UmDiaEuFicoBom 2 years ago
It wouldn't be the best throw if you're opponent is already up close. It would be more suitable if the attacker were running at you.

have you tried provoking uke? its much easier when you tori goes low and pushes uke, then attacks when uke pushes back.

As this is a part of our documentation project, the Akban-wiki, we were interested here only in videoing the most basic features of this technique.
I'll post it to you other comments.
