first of all tribal fusion isn't even belly dancing. yeah i looked it up since all you haters on me. tribal fusion started in friggin 1996 WTF.

this has zero to do with belly dancing.

and rachel brice isn't a belly dancer she's a tribal fusion artist.

You are correct, Tribal fusion began in the United States. People in the middle east would not recognize it as traditional belly dance.

It is different, and done well, enjoyable to watch.

I tend towards Egyptian cabaret style of the 1940's and 1950's. There are some wonderful movie clips on Youtube here somewhere!

The problem lies with the fact that most dancers and some teachers are misinformed or uninformed about the different forms, which are considered 'traditional', which are considered 'fusion', which are considered 'folkloric'. All these forms could be put under an umbrella of "Bellydancing". Then confusion ensues. I've been fortunate enough to have teachers who educated themselves, either in the middle east or with a variety of middle eastern teachers and gave us the origins of these dances. :)

Tribal Fusion is bellydance. Bellydance is a vast word that discribes many different types and genres of bellydance... until you start asking/talking to people about "what type of bellydance they perform" it is ALL bellydance. Fusion dancers perform & teach the same movements as a Cabaret/Egyptian dancer, they just have different technique. Just because Tribal Bellydance was invented later does not discredit the fact that it is bellydance. People prob. thought the same about Cabaret in the 50's

The most famous belly dancer I know of is Rachel Brice and when you meet her in person she is even more thin than she looks on camera. I bet she is about a 0. However I do agree that any shape and size can belly dance. I belly dance and I'm a bigger girl.

the whole point of belly dancing was a sensual plump woman, very curvacious.  there is nothing sensual about a size 0 woman.

even the most talented american belly dancer right now is a size 12. it just looks better on a voluptuous woman. when a size 12-14 -16 shakes her hips it's way more alluring and has more movement. a size 2 moving her hips has very little movement.

and i do agree that these girls are very slender, but the whole point of belly dance is that its something women of ANY size or shape can do, it really does not matter if they are size 2 or size 22 (or larger goddess sizes)

it actually looks better on slim women bcz you can see it's not just fat jiggling, you can see the full range of muscle control... which, in a way, makes them more talented.

Maybe the fact that they dance day in and day out, multiple time a day might have something to do with it? I'm willing to be if you exerzied for hours on end every day you would be fit too. Kate Moss is a size 0, these girls are probubly 4 and 6.

1.comme ancienne "Parisienne", et comme fille à héritage arabe, je te dis qu une haîne à travers les hommes arabes en France ce dérive fortement du comportement quotidien de ce groupe social, des jeunes hommes. On se fait agresser, on es suivi partout par des mecs, meme si on dit qu on veut etre seule, il faut qu on ait peur si on dit son avis genre laisse moi tranquille, je suis pas interessee. That's just stupid, of course Rachel isn't in it for the money! There are much better paying jobs than being a bellydancer, even a bellydance superstar - she does what she does because she loves it. Just because you obviously don't understand how a real human being works on the inside, doesn't mean you can think everyone is just a money-grabbing idiot.
