  • check out my version of jolene at youtube.com/davemcarthurmusic. thanks!

  • JOLENE JOLENE JOLENE JOLENE!!!!!!! IM BEGGIN OF YOU PLEASE DON"T TAKE MY MAN

  • @Ihateopp Dolly has some tig ole bitties!

  • Comment removed

  • Actually Ray Lamontagne wrote this song, Dolly Parton's Jolene is a complete different song.

  • This song shows what is lacking in most country lyrics, originality. I wish that Country would draw more from contemporary folk. Zac Brown is great but Ray Lamontagne is on another level then almost everyone.

  • I love Ray Lamontagne. I love the Zach Brown band. And I love this damn song.

  • there`s no other like ray lamontagne`s voice...so i cant judge this

im just happy other bands love this song too

  • I love that people always berate each other over which version of a song is better. I'm giving Ray the slight edge for writing this tune, but Zac Brown's demonstrates his talent and understanding of the music, and the diversity and evolution of country music. I love cover tunes that do something different with the original; a reinterpretation is much more interesting than a remake. FFDP's cover of "Bad Company" is terrible. But Perfect Circle's cover of Lennon's "Imagine" is amazing.

  • @grimsirius. Way to reinforce the bad country music lover stereotypes with unprovoked aggression and typical racial and or homosexual insults. After this comment angers you and you proceed to kick you dog, then hit your fat ugly wife, then berate your ignorant children. Why don't you go jerk off to the Randy Travis poster hanging above your bed and cry yourself to sleep thinking about how miserable your life really is.

  • Just gotta say, I DONT like country AT ALL!! They mess up good songs. Listen to the songwriter sing it......Ray La Montangne. I close my eyes when I listen to music, and see if I feel ...yes SEE if I can feel the artist projecting the song as heartfelt and sincere. This is a commercial red neck version of a song that is haunting when sung by La Montangne. This version, I close my eyes and plug my ears!!

  • No offense to Zac Brown, but to me this version takes all of the soul out of this song. Ray LaMontagne's version is much better.

  • @louevil81 rays version sounds like shit one tone robot breathing through a paper sack

  • Pretty song.

  • I love all your music Zac...

  • I think this song is too great for being covered by a big name band so soon. and LOL at the people who think that this is a Zack Brown Band song. Zack Brown (or whoever is singing) really does this song no justice at all.

  • @mtnbayou then dont listen to it fag, go back to modern music rock loser.

  • hey naughty spread he can comment on what he wants you dont control it you useless pussy, grow some balls and bitch about something that makes sense

  • @pvtsokolov1 You make my testicles shake like beating hearts.

  • Obviously Ray gave this man permission to cover. Song writers want the message or the story behind a song to spread.... On top of that, it gave Ray himself more popularity. i'll be honest, i had no idea who he was until reading these comments. So for the avid Ray fans, keep in mind this cover potentially helped his career.

  • So let me get this right, when someone creates a wonderful song no one should ever do a cover of it? Geez fuckin write him a letter or something.

  • No Pop Country band could even hold Ray`s Jock strap. Kudos on the good taste though. But this guy obviously doesn`t have anywhere near the soul Ray has.

  • love both versions of the song from ray (original) and zac for the cover. both so different, love both. beautiful song.

  • This is a great cover, but I like rays better

  • Ray LaMontagne sounds as if he wants to sound like a woman in his song.

  • Zac Brown doesn't have the emotional depth to sing this song. I felt like at any moment a tiny tenis ball would appear at the bottom of the screen, and lead us through the lyrics as Zac sang with such a painfully positive timbre. Fans of country style will enjoy this, no doubt, but Ray Lamontagne's version is an absolute classic. Totally blows this one out of the water.

  • @NaughtySpread I agree. There's no comparison between the two. That said, hat's off to ZB for paying tribute to such a phenomenal artist.

  • @NaughtySpread You're an idiot. This man will have lived and died a rockstar's life without ever having known you existed, yet you somehow think you can comment on the man's "emotional depth" like you were drinkin buddies. Get outta here, lol. Dummy.

  • @SlickShoesC6 I don't think I can, I already did. Thank you for playing.

  • @NaughtySpread DEEDEEDEE, you are a fucking retard

  • i was mad until i took an arrow to the knee

  • @germanboy1380 i love skyrim and all, but this is for your own benefit....

    watch?v=mSDfxde8fSg

  • lol played this in class and it went through my speakers and headphones .... people gave me weird looks

  • I ain't about to go straight...It's too late....

  • BOOZE IN MY HAIR BLOOD ON MY LIPS WITH A PIC OF U IN MY BLUE JEANES

  • lost u just the same

  • The vocal harmonies are very nice.

  • His voice is so amazing. LOVE this song.

  • You should hear Christian Kane and Steve Carlson do this one....awesome!

  • i thought this was gona be a dolly parton cover haha

  • I've always loved this song, but it's great to finally hear it sung by someone who sounds like a man. I always thought Ray LaMontagne was a 75 year old woman who smoked too much.

  • Sorry, this isn't working for me. There are some places you just shouldn't go. This is one of them.

  • rays the man...but this iz great 2

  • love it

  • my thought is why sell your coat in Spokane!???? It's cold there in june!!! :)

  • Im a big fan of Zac Brown...but he's no Ray.

  • @huffinesjoshua U MAD??

  • @esing6991 You spell?

  • @huffinesjoshua As a great man once said... YOU MAD BRO???

  • @ehandkz That was cool to say maybe a couple months ago............

  • @huffinesjoshua It has never been cool to say, but it was successful in pissing you off.

  • @ehandkz Lols Sure it was buddy

  • @huffinesjoshua well fuuuuuuuuck you buddy

  • @huffinesjoshua y u mad tho?

  • @huffinesjoshua lets here your band...

  • If they did it slower it would have been better - decent but not as good as the original > "MY opinion"

  • great job ZBB classic

  • Love this song but I really enjoy Ray Lamontagne's version more.

  • hate it

  • GIZZAY

  • love this! sing it all day every day:)

  • Great song and he sings it so well!!!

  • reminds me of my xwife..jolene is her middle name. :(

  • by the way this is not dolly

  • this is way to happy the song is about a man with a major drug problem not about some guy out drinking and coming home late good god ray montagne is so much better sorry zac u have no reason to do such personal song so happy dam

  • @demongodgreggreene ......what makes this happy? the song is exactly the same as the original lyrics-wise so we all know what the song is about and thats exactly what THIS one is about. and judging the comment you made before this one i dont think you knew about this song much before hearing this version of it

  • @demongodgreggreene Just because it is slightly faster without a gasping singer doesn't make it happier.

  • who wrote the lyrics

  • Thumbs up for Zac Brown Band

  • its not the same song as dolly's @izzymandias

  • Beautiful! ZBR adds their own flair to Ray's great song!

  • If i hadn't heard Ray sing this first I would have loved it more. You can not beat Ray singing Jolene, totally different feeling while listening to it. It should be slower and with more feeling, not sound happy....doesn't fit the lyrics.

  • as much as i love both ..Ray wins this time..

  • Not Ray, but a great cover none the less...

  • An amazing song... A different song, but if you thought it was going to be a dolly song you were wrong. He takes a classic and makes it into a new classic with his own style. If you dont like it search youtube again. BEAUTIFUL

PS if you came here looking for original there were many singers that have covered this song pick your favorite but do not dislike a new take on a classic.

  • superb xx love it :) <3

  • I love this song so much bc my aunt's name was jolene and she died when i was young.

  • My name is Joleen and i was named after the song by

Dolly in 1974. When i heard this song for the first time.

I started crying because it has such a touching vibration.

My heart smiles at your heart... Thank you ❤ZZB❤!

And Thank You ❤HooLex❤ for posting it!

  • I heard that dolly patron did a cover song

  • @longshots1337 not to this song but she did sing a song called jolene but it is totally different

  • @longshots1337 No. She sings Jolene. Entirely different song, But also good.

  • hoooooollllley shit they ruined this

  • definitely doesn't hold a candle to Ray...

  • @josh77971 youre a fag. this shit is for little girls, and judging by your name youre a dude. grow a sack, stop spamming, and listen to some soulful music

  • Thanks for sharing HooLex, I listened to both versions of Jolene and I think they are both equally powerful and beautiful. Personally, I think, depending on the song, the original is better than the cover or the cover is better the original, of both the cover and the original (like here) are equally as great. Thanks, I have always loved country music.

  • i think they did awesome......

  • If he's referring to Spokane, MO, then it's pronounced correctly. Not a lot of country singers write songs about the Pacific NW.

  • wow they sure took everything good out of this song... Ray Lamontagne's version is wayyy better

  • @11Tyson11 LOL YOU ARE SO RIGHT

  • @11Tyson11 then listen to his version instead of trolling on this song

  • @11Tyson11 you have a boring life

  • their both great versions of this song

  • It's pronounced "Spo-kan."

  • Ray makes it sound like he lost a woman he loved ZBB makes it sound like its the dog that died.....the soul is missing here.

  • @BigJimDeeDaDee Totally agree dude. Ray's original has real deep soul. Unlike this, which has no soul or feeling whatsoever. However this is purely my personal opinion, before someone, in typical Youtube tradition replies with an ineloquent and crass reply such as "BorderReiver73 you are a prick" etc etc. Cheers ;)

  • I feel ya', Jolene. I don't know what love means either :/

  • my daughter loves zac brown band, thanks claudie so do i

  • A picture of you, holding a picture of me, in the pocket of my blue jeans.

  • Love ZBB!!

  • Great Cover!! Im the biggest Ray LaMontagne fan but ZBB did it justice :) My fav will always be from Ray but Kudos to Zac for laying it down!

  • @okscoutcece at penn state? I was there too! greatest concert....

  • A great cover of Ray LaMontagne's classic.

  • heard this song first and liked it a lot. then i heard the ray lamontagne version and loved it even more. this is just a little too fast and not enough soul. Ray's original just gets to me

  • best ZBB song.

  • Ah, I was trying to see how he was going to handle Dolly's classic.

  • @Izzymandias SAME! :D

  • @Izzymandias same! i bet it would have been amazing though

  • @Izzymandias Sorry bud but this is a cover of the Ray LaMontagne song- Jolene. NOT Dolly Parton's- Jolene. Its a pretty good version I think both are different but have their moments for sure.

  • @Joncars05 haha Ray LaMontagne in french thats called Ray The Mountain XD

  • omg i think that zbb sings it so much better then ray!!

  • This song needs to be played at Country Concert '12!!!

  • Sorry but not feeling it... The soul was totally sucked out of this verson.. Boo... Ray Lamontagne is this song and without him, really dont care to hear it... At least not this version..

  • Thanks for posting!! I really enjoy this version as well as the original.

  • This is a Ray LaMontagne song! If you think this is good y'all crazy! Ray's version and his voice makes the song what it is. The song was written in 03 by Ray and on his first album called Trouble. I know because I am obsessed with Ray and know all his songs!

  • @dmholmes1 You don't have to be obsessed with him to know that, just type it in on Google

  • Its a Ray song, not Zac

  • All the emotion is sucked out of this song. Way to ruin a good thing ZBB!!!!!!

  • @riderslider21

Yeah this version is emotionally flat and bland.

  • They need to put this song on the radio

  • This cover is way too 'busy'. You don't feel the heartbreak and sadness. Sorry ZBB, but this is a failed cover.

  • Wow, Zac Brown sucks

  • jay the fatty you need to insert head in toilet and FLUSH. The zb band is unbelievable and if you don't like there style go else where.

  • This song has my name in it!

  • @azgirl928 cool

  • great song!

  • @jaythefatty you obviously have shit taste in music retard

  • fuck everyone that likes this over the original!!!!! this takes all the emotion out of it. ray lamontagne is the tits on the chest of life.bahahahaha

  • @Grindednigg dork

  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so stop bitching and leave if you don't like it bro.

  • @NonSilentKiller If he sucks so much, why are you here? Try singing better than him bro. You fail.

  • @vAGENTv0RANGEv my grandma sings better than him, "bro".

PS- nobody cares what country fans think anyway, you have no taste at all and you have no right to judge anything except cheap beer, Skoal and, of course, NASCAR. yeeeeeee fuckin' haw, faggot!

  • @fixed0gear0luv Yeah, ok. Go listen to your shitty pop, instead of trolling the better of the two songs.

  • Stereotype much..?....go back to sucking Gaga's cock.

  • @fixed0gear0luv country is the most popular music in the WORLD in terms of record sales. my friend, you FAIL again.

  • This is no good.

  • I really don't care about Ray, this song is great.

  • i have to say i dont think zbb would have sang this song if they themselves were not a fan of it to begin with and every artist has their own intuerpatation of music and some one made a good point i had never heard the original until i heard this version i think both are great and its rare for a cover to ever become something more than the original

  • @vAGENTv0RANGEv this version does not do rays jolene any justice. whats your point man?

  • Zac did not write this song ... in fact he ruined the original. Ray LaMontagne wrote Jolene. Zacs version is completely overproduced and barely pays tribute to the original version. This is pop music ... Ray sings from the heart about real things, not to just sell records. Sorry Zac ... you blew it.

  • @mikesmusic1988 FAILURE! Yeah, he totally does it for the money, when some guy recognizes him paying for gas in the bus, and the entire band does an impromptu concert in a gas station parking lot. Because that's for money. His amazing voice, plus his amazing band, is the only mainstream band that did not go to Nashville to become a generic run of the mill "Country" Artist. Man, you need to grow up.

  • @NonSilentKiller quit your whinning....Zac... turned this into the best song ever... now Ray whoever...will get his 15 minutes of fame..

  • @NonSilentKiller I bought Ray a drink the other day... the douchebag wanted vinegar and water...hahaha

  • Jolene is my middle name! I was named after the Dolly Parton version. Love this song!

  • One of my FAVORITE Zac Brown songs..ALL music has heart and soul in it in my opinion-some just show it better than others and I don't think you could get more soulful that ZBB. You don't believe me? See them in concert-if that doesn't move you, you can't BE moved

  • @nicksmom02 i have seen them in concert 3 times rib fest in st. Pete , Georgia , and phx arizona

as logn as they keep touring and making music i will keep paying to see them

  • @nicksmom02 Saw their concert last night and it changed my life forever. Hands down the most amazing experience of my life!

  • @nicksmom02 its a ray lamontagne song, a soul singer.... hence the soul

  • @nicksmom02 If you want soul, listen to the original by Ray Lamontagne.

  • LOVEEEEEE <3

  • different version on this song..but still great
