I saw these guys many times at the Val Air in West Des Moines in the 60's. It was always a big night when they came back to play. Everyone loved them. They had a great unique sound.
Doc Peterson, or should I say Captain Wa Wah of PKQ, played this song tonight at Doc's Music Hall in downtown Muncie, Indiana. He's still jammin' ev'ry Thursday night. Rock on Wah!
Thanks for posting this wonderul song. I coulndt get enough of it....I think it was played a million times. ha ha I still love it so much and it is so 60's . Wasnt this great group from Mason City , Iowa?
I played with Notorious Noblemen and was room mates with Bill Morinsky in Cedar Falls. Many times have met Pete and did a couple gigs on same bill with them. Great band, in all in variations. Mike Watts was INCREDIBLE (RIP!) and such a loss. Denny Carlson
My sister was a virtual groupie for the PKQ,,Shed travel iowa when she could to catch them,Im younger and I enjoyed the tune as a little guy..Lou Rawls Originally did the song,,Thanks Boo Boo Sue..Live on Spirit
@biittner1 Should be some free software on the net to enable you to do this. You could try free youtube to mp3 converter,I haven't used it myself but reviews seem favourable.
Being born and raised in Mason City, I was very familiar with the PKQ. I see the label is on "Twin Spin". It was after they recorded this record that they got a contract with Mercury Records (who didn't give them much effort in promotion or anything else).
Side note .. John Peterson's mother was my music teacher in junior high school.
@rcizme Yes,for some reason there are 2 different label styles for the Twin Spin release. No idea why or which was 1st. They also recorded for Atlantic as you'll be aware.
This song seems awfully similar to me? Have I heard this only a few times in my youth on KIOA or KRNT before the disc jockeys like Dic Youngs or Steve Matthews quit playing it?
the keyboardist of this band is a friend of mine. he now goes by Dr John Peterson, we call him Doc. in the late 60's he opened up a bar in downtown Muncie In called DOCS music hall.i have been in a few bands that have played there a number of times over the years. iworked there for a short time. everynight Doc and a few of his friends jam for a few hours.he even delivered my lead singers son. I just found out today that he has a book coming out soon. Doc is a great guy and this band was great.
I hope you told him this record was posted here on youtube. I should maybe post the 'Shake' side as that prominently features the keyboard. Your comment greatly appreciated.
I've been looking for this song for a long time and you were kind enough to put it on. Are you from the mason City - Clear lake Iowa area where these boys were from? Thank you again, Rock-On
It's a great song, well worth sharing with the youtube community. Im not from that locality,I was lucky enough to find the 2 Twin Spin copies within a couple of days of looking for the record. The Mercury release is very easy to find of course.
