man, duran duran are very excited in this live concert. I'm enjoying it so much! I just wannabe shout out the high pitch notes. never heard the songs like this.
My uncle recorded this on beta the same day and year this came out. Unfortunately his roommate at the time ruined the tape by accidentally recording something else over it.
I saw them this past April (for the very 1st time) and will see them in October! Dare I say they are even sexier now than they were back in the 80's!! They sounded amazing and put on the best concert I have ever seen!!! God I can't wait for Oct 28th
@EASTWOODO4 ye now days everyone acts, talks, dresses, and sings black...you cant even get on american idol without....well.. this year it was country...nm
if anyone has Twitter you need to be following John (@thisistherealJT) and Simon (@simoncjlebon). John is lovely to the fans, he sits there some times and answers questions for 10-15 minutes. He's answered me a few times and even sent me a PM once!!!! Simon is hilarious! harder to get an answer from him. Both lovely though. John has impressed me as being extremely nice and appreciative of us and Simon is just as I imagined, kind of a big mouth, but a good guy! So go follow! AYNIN is brilliant!
if anyone has twitter, you need to be following John (@thisistherealJT) and Simon (@simoncjlebon) they're both lovely. Actually, John talks to us quite a bit, he even sent me a PM once!!!! He's lovely to his fans, sometimes he sits there for 10 or 15 mins answering questions. Simon is harder to get answers from. But he's absolutely hilarious. John is nicer than I thought, Simon is just how I imagined him to be! Love the new album!!
John's bass is so prominent in this vid.. wish he'd slap and pluck me like that! haha.. Simon's voice hasn't changed!.. so rich and thick and velvety smooth!.. so distinctive. love him!
Just listened to Duran play live on YouTube directed by David Lynch (3/24/11).. and missed Andy and REAL guitar playing so much, I had to run here and listen to this song!! Andy-- please return.. pleassseeee~~
@Shoregirl72 Yep, still a massive Durannie to this day -- the last time I saw them in concert was at the Mountain Winery, July 8, 2009, we had second row seats. I think that was show #13 or 14 for me -- I've lost count of the number of times I've seen them over the years....
@FabHckyBbe Very cool!! .I have only seen them 3 times over the years!! But they were the BEST concerts I have EVER been to. My first one was in Philly in 1993, and I will NEVER forget anything about that magical night!! The last one I been to was 2005, when they all reunited again!! AMAZING! Simon was next to me in my aisle and still looked so young and AMAZING after all those years!!
Before I even read any comments I just have to say...I can't imagine not loving this clip everytime I see it. It never ceases to amaze me. As Simon has said, it's hard to hear them over the "wall of sound". I've been a Duranie from 1981. I remember the wall of sound very well. I'd still sing "I Mean Money, Honey" if Girls On Film were still played like that live, I know it, you know it. They know it. They love it. We are the hardcore fans, the many, the dedicated...Duranies. Amen.
When I first heard of Duran Duran back in '81 or so, I thought, "Oh God, what bunch of fags with their teeny bopper worshippers destroying all that is good in music."
Yea, now that I'm old and refined on the verge of 45 years old, I happen to think Duran Duran are pretty incredible musicians and can see why MTV gave them so much hype back in the early 80's. Amazing musicians and some great songs.
At the 84 concert the song went on for twenty minutes, between all the introductions to the band members and everyone getting a solo. So nice edit of about 10 minutes.
When this concert aired on Cinemax, I had a Duran theme sleep over where all my best girl firends spent the night after watching the concert. Gave away buttons (you know the kind that were so popular back in the 80's that we wore on our jean jackets). It was so much fun. To this day, they still make me giggle like a teeny-bopper, lol.
I saw them in Chicago in '84. I was main floor like 30th row center ...one of my best friends had 2nd row(not fair)... There was this big platform of speakers near us and Simon's model girlfriend (now wife) was just hanging out there with some of the crew. I think back then we hated her because (ya know) she was with our Simon. 25+ years later I'm happy for them. It was the best concert that I ever went to! (and camping out in the Sears parking lot for tix in winter was memorable too) 80s rule!
@luciob1 You lucky duck, I am envious, lol. I had just discovered DD during the time they were touring, and missed them when they came to my city. It wasn't until 1999, missing a few of the original band members, that I got to see them in concert, but it was a right of passage at that point, for me. lol
Side note: The woman SImon LeBon dated for a couple years, off and on, during the epic 1984-85 tour, was Candian model Claire Stansfield. Simon met his wife, model Yasmin Parvaneh, later in 1985
@JoanMarie4700 You are so right! It WAS Calire back then...you are good! I think I lost sight of the guys for a while after Roger left and then the Power Station thing...Once I got back into Duran Duran my brain just merged Claire and Yasmin into one person(again...who liked the girlfriends anyway? they stole our fantasy of the guys falling in love with us, right?..evil women ;-)
I was so happy when Roger came back, and John is still such a hottie.
Wow, look at the crowd. They´re like "wow, i never seen something that cool in my whole life". And Simon was in a good shape while dancing, i didn´t know that. And the whole band always have a great stage presence. I´m really impressed.
@UrLawnboy is that a joke ? John Entwhistle ( The Who ), Chris Squire ( Yes) and Stanley Clarke to name three.... Clarke could play 64th notes on a bass. wicked fast.
@JerichoDitch2 As amazing as Clarke is, playing 64th notes doesn't mean your a brilliant bass player. I do agree though that there are better/more influential bass players than Taylor but he was perfect for Duran Duran and made some awesome basslines.
@Talkingforfree "Oh, Medazzaland". amen. i have NO idea why that album was so underated. IMO, i think it's their best work to date. it's my very favorite Duran album of all time. and Simon himself likes it too. i talked to him about it in early 2000. don't even remember how it came up actually, but it was cool :)
so, i think you have good taste in music and Duran albums my friend. great user name too. makes me wanna sing", i can't stop myself".... and well, and you know the rest ;)
I agree w/ Kirchart2. Stupid. Anyway, I saw this concert. It was so good. I loved these guys. When they quit, I was sad, but understood. But I'm so glad they are back. "Perfect Day" is that the name of the new song I love? I love Simon's voice. And he is cute.
@erikiq0 I've just seen them pack 50,000 people into the ULtra Festival in Miami!... Erasure were on before them and the crowd walked away.. leaving only a couple of thousand... (front row in front of JT!!!!.. thanking god that Erasure cleared a path for me shame! ha)

@kizzietaylor they also just packed and wowed them at Coachella ... this band is the predecessor of so many new and young bands ... AND PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THAT !!! ...
This was for the Arena video, I was there in the crow, few rows from the front, most filmed in Birmingham NEC over 3 days...never forget! Met Yasmin, John Taylors parents...great memories, cannot wait till they tour here next year..BEST live band ever:-)
The thing that amazed me the most is that they were good musicians, they made a show but they were also good musicians... cannot find people like that nowadays (cool show and good musician) heroes from the 80´s
What's that about you appearing in the video??????????? You lucky duck! Did u get to meet em????? I remember that, I bought that video and played it until it nearly died!
Oh, I could watch this like a million times. Had it on VS in the 80's and I did watch it that many times I think...MEMORIES...I know this version better than the recorded one.

The thing that amazed me the most is that they were good musicians, they made a show but they were also good musicians... cannot find people like that nowadays (cool show and good musician) heroes from the 80´s

I STILL have my ticket stubs for this concert and the one the day before. Ahhhh, to have been 13 and paid ONLY $12.50 to see them.

Please, can you tell me about the concert? Where was it? I can imagine that the girls there were crazy....
I really wanted to be there...

I think they sound so much better live now than they did back then,Simon's singing is awful!
Ade067 3 years ago
these days they have microphones which auto tune voices
which probably cover a multitude of sins.
This really is live! - theres plenty of singers out there that sing a bit ropey, thats never stopped em being famous though.
Hey thats show biz!
