@Dri0m lol it takes practice to keep your hand steady, but all you have to do is hook the engraver up to some music (mp3 player, computer, radio etc.). Then start the groove on the outer edge of a cd and slowly move inward while the disk is spinning on your record player.
This is really very nice work... But have you ever try to engrave-record on a cd or other material ?
If yes, are you try to reproduce this recording with normal diamond needle with tip radius for example 0.7 mil? or you use a needle with bigger tip radius? Thanks!
@urbanexplorer1996 you just put a cd, shiny side up, on your record placer. tape it to the turntable so it stays in place. plug something up to the engraver, like an mp3 player and play what you want to record. while the cd is spinning, start making the groove from the outside to the inside.
@mbarry6 what else would this work on other then cds ? would a dvd be better ? can this work with an old 78rpm victrola (crank gramophone with the big needles )
@urbanexplorer1996 Ive experimented with a lot of materials and haven't had much success. PETE 1 type plastic sorta work, but they give a lot crackles and pops. DVDs do work. all types of speeds work, and I would assume that an old record player like that would work, but I dont have an old one like that to confirm for sure.
I will build it I'm sure that will be a great project and the simplest lathe ever! But, to be honest, I will upgrade some material as cardboard parts, assemblies as tape and glue to a more sturdy material as hardware, plastic, wood, metal or anything else more efficient that should insure the success of that ingenious hobby project! Thanks for your bright idea!...
@guitarslf132 really? when recording, dont put very much pressure on the arm. either that or print another support piece for the arm to give it more support. different boxes have different strengths. try experimenting with support, and less pressure
isn't spelled "circuit board"? :D

okay, if i build this engraving machine, how to move with it? with my sensitivity, i will skip one centimeter in every move with my hand :D

Wow, it sucks that someone with so much electrical talent is stuck with such a crappy Ion turntable.
