You know what's stupid? Hot Pursuit had the Lamborghini Reventon ON THE COVER of the game, but you needed to pay DLC (that was released with the games as far as I know) for it. As TB said, this is unacceptable.

People stop playing a game when they are max level because some people need a goal to achieve when playing something. If they reach maximum level, they will feel no sense of progression in what they are playing and will get bored. That why I kinda like COD's prestige system.

TB, the reason games have persistant stuff in them is because it gradually increases the variety of the game, in turn giving the game more longevity.
Even cosmetic items that need to be unlocked/found/whatnot can give the game longer legs, since status symbols are something people will long for, and in turn they will have fun doing so. Sadly the current shooters that work with this model are less then stellar, though.

The DLC that publisers release on the game release date, you generally get in a code when u buy a game new. Its to stop the preowned game market. Thats what ME2, BC2 and fable 3 did (they're just games i have). Its total bullshit, because the preowned market is something every product has, why do should games be any differnt. Games should release at £20, that would stop the preowned market.
I remember complaining about day 1 dlc on the fable forums and a moderator told me that Lionhead had finished with the game and it was in processing with Microsoft so they had free time until the launch so they made some dlc for it.

the reason why there are special offers for those who pre-order at gamestop is becuase gamestop broke the way games are sold. since when you buy the game used the publisher gets no money from that transaction, so if they add special offers for if you buy the game new than the publishers will get money. thats why it seems so much like the games industry is nickel and dimming us. its because there is no money in good games
What do you think about the DLC for Oblivion? On PC you could get the official plug ins for free, like Wizards Tower etc, and on Xbox/Ps3 they actually made you pay for it.

Any modern day game goes gold and is printed months before release. No more content can be added. Pushing back the release date costs the devs money. What to do with unfinished content and ideas that aren't fleshed out? DLC is that answer. During the interim between going gold and release, DLC can be completed. A mix of studio/publisher morals and studio/publisher bottom line dictates whether or not that DLC has a price tag. Publishers are profit-oriented. Contracts get them their way.

The developers and publishers then decide they can make people pay more by releasing something that was finished when the game was being made cost extra money. And if it does not get finished before release, but after printing, simply call it an update, which it essentially is if there wasn't time to put on the disc, but it was finished before release. DLC is fine, paying extra at release isn't

Ive been a fan of yours long before jesse cox TB. But i disagree on 4.2. I disaprove of the scale of it but the fact you can get "caught up" quicker make it legit by me. If you didnt watch that you should. Im gonna stick with WoW.
@Wyatt19961212 I fail to see how catching up means a damn thing. If you didnt have the skill to beat the unnerfed t11 content you WILL fall flat on your face in t12. All the nerfs do is encourage the bads into thinking theyre good enough for even HARDER content than the stuff they already couldnt complete.
Whilst sometimes DLC is regrettable. It can be done well. Like when they have zero day DLC but the game comes with a code to unlock it free if you bought the game new. Quite a few games have done that. I can't find it in me to hate that. It gives incentive for people to buy new instead of waiting a while or buying preowned. I really don't mind that stuff, even though I'm fairly sure other people would explode with rage over it... DLC isn't inherently bad, but it can be badly implemented.

I've been playing WoW since it's release now, with a few pauses in-between, and I've also lost interest to the game. I've been thinking about cancelling my subscription and maybe try another MMORPG (I particularly like EVE), but I haven't got around to it yet. After 4.2, I'm all but certain I'll cancel my subscription, for this is just over what I could take from Blizzard.
The reality of gaming industry is that in recent years games became considerately more expensive to develop (probably due to whole advertisement and hype machine), but the price stays basically constant. So if this additional content was removed, it would reflect on higher price for a game itself.
Having those two options - I prefer to pay less and have option to expand the game, than have my choice made by someone else, and pay for it by default.
@iberales The addition of cloud purchasing (steam for example) has dramatically reduced the costs for the industry, yet we are still charged full price similar to consoles.
In other industries, companies work to reduce their own costs by reducing waste, streamlining processes etc, not pushing the extra cost onto the consumer just because they face a tough time. DLC should exploit those who are willing, but should not put those unwilling at a disadvantage, through mechanics/kit etc

Dragon Age 2 had like a bunch of DLC that came with the release of the game.
Not really worth buying either, cause the DLC items become nearly obsolete later in the game.
But there was a recent story add on DLC that was released, I think it cost $5 bucks and to me it's pretty worth it.
I have no problem buying a story expansion DLC that comes like a year after it's main game release.

You get quite a few free items for the portal 2 robots and you unlock quite a lot by just playing through the co-op.
You can also get new hats for the robots by crafting certain hats in TF2.

the reason why there are special offers for those who pre-order at gamestop is becuase gamestop broke the way games are sold. since when you buy the game used the publisher gets no money from that transaction, so if they add special offers for if you buy the game new than the publishers will get money. thats why it seems so much like the games industry is nickel and dimming us. its because there is no money in good games

Any modern day game goes gold and is printed months before release. No more content can be added. Pushing back the release date costs the devs money. What to do with unfinished content and ideas that aren't fleshed out? DLC is that answer. During the interim between going gold and release, DLC can be completed. A mix of studio/publisher morals and studio/publisher bottom line dictates whether or not that DLC has a price tag. Publishers are profit-oriented. Contracts get them their way.

@xLightFilmsx The problem is that the ides ARE fleshed out and are completed before the games release. The developers and publishers then decide they can make people pay more by releasing something that was finished when the game was being made cost extra money. And if it does not get finished before release, but after printing, simply call it an update, which it essentially is if there wasn't time to put on the disc, but it was finished before release. DLC is fine, paying extra at release isn't

@steamgamesfan Well, I would have thought the pirates would have just pirated the DLC too. SInce it's usually on sale as well as accessible through th code. It seems like they are targeting the generally honest people who would buy the game anyway, even if it's at a lower price or pre-owned. And I do know there is a anti-preowned feeling in the games industry since they get no profit at all from the sale of second hand games.

Whilst sometimes DLC is regrettable. It can be done well. Like when they have zero day DLC but the game comes with a code to unlock it free if you bought the game new. Quite a few games have done that. I can't find it in me to hate that. It gives incentive for people to buy new instead of waiting a while or buying preowned. I really don't mind that stuff, even though I'm fairly sure other people would explode with rage over it... DLC isn't inherently bad, but it can be badly implemented.

I've been playing WoW since it's release now, with a few pauses in-between, and I've also lost interest to the game. I've been thinking about cancelling my subscription and maybe try another MMORPG (I particularly like EVE), but I haven't got around to it yet. After 4.2, I'm all but certain I'll cancel my subscription, for this is just over what I could take from Blizzard.
I also completely agree with the DLC part.

I respectfully disagree with the DLC section.
The reality of gaming industry is that in recent years games became considerately more expensive to develop (probably due to whole advertisement and hype machine), but the price stays basically constant. So if this additional content was removed, it would reflect on higher price for a game itself.
Having those two options - I prefer to pay less and have option to expand the game, than have my choice made by someone else, and pay for it by default.

@iberales The addition of cloud purchasing (steam for example) has dramatically reduced the costs for the industry, yet we are still charged full price similar to consoles.
In other industries, companies work to reduce their own costs by reducing waste, streamlining processes etc, not pushing the extra cost onto the consumer just because they face a tough time. DLC should exploit those who are willing, but should not put those unwilling at a disadvantage, through mechanics/kit etc
