Please stop being so charmed people!! Or should I say Christians. This man is not a follower of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please understand this man is an agent of oragnized group of people who are allowed to lye as long as 'the end justifies the means'. This man is whore and able to be and has been compromised,
the separation of church and state meant that politics and things to that nature should be out of the church. the country is based on God,he is saying things and standing for things that is against God. thomas jefferson said church is meant to be in the state but state not in the church...which like i said in the first sentence it means politics and things to that nature shouldnt be in the church but faith in God and things that involve God should be in our government.
@buckstick123 You are deluded. WHERE did Jefferson say that God belongs in government? What speech, what letter, what document did he produce that includes that insane attribution? He said, in general, on many occasions that the religion of a politician should not be divulged or brought into the political arena. He did this himself. Jefferson was a Deist (but would be closely aligned today with Unitarian beliefs) and made no political hay out of that fact. PWNED
Barack Obama, the supposed Christian, is trying to reach out to Evangelical Christians by taking hostile quotes from the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, & asking them about it. The truth is President Obama shows his ignorance here. He Should know that the Hebrew Bible is more hostile because unlike the book of Christianity about Salvation & what the Lord God says, the Hebrew Bible emphasizes the sins of man more emphatically & demonstrates the need for Jesus to come & save our sins.
in the end we really do need to separate church and state. If muslims put there morals and teachings right next to the ten commandments in court, or on the sabbath ( jews ) we cant touch any electronic, or the amish where we cant drive cars. Its offensive and funny to think about it but repressing their beliefs to yours is selfish so why dont we take down the ten commandments, leaves abortionist alone, and be in a society that derives from equality instead of ideals that a book perceives
I'm a Christian, so it's surprising to see some of my fellow Christians accuse Pres. Obama of being anti-religious. He's probably the most religious president we've had since Carter, and I would argue, ever. Unlike other politicians, he demonstrates a serious and sincere understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ, even while being aware he represents a pluralistic people.
This guy aint a Christian at all he's totally encouraging compromise of our faith to fit into the world but dats exactly what Christ told us NOT to do and we are meant to be not of dis world
Believe our President is saying he received salvation but it is unclear. So let me state it this way. I believe Jesus to be the Christ (annoited). He is the son of Jehovah God Almighty. Jesus (the Shepherd, the Lamb of God) abased himself, by leaving Heaven and taking on flesh and my sins to pay the penalty of my sin which is eternal death (separation from God..forever). I've been reconciled back to God because of what Jesus did...but not just for me..for all who confess "Jesus is Lord!"
Barack is a Christian realist. He wants to do greater good, with a long term view, but his primary concern is not bible specifics. Or any single religion specifics. He wants to live his life, and guide the US and the world, with things we all see and hear. Common laws, etc. Not any one specific religions laws or beliefs. But common beliefs.
Wolf in sheeps clothing!!! I call Blasphemy. An insult to my God and my intelligence. Even if I was atheist or agnostic or whatever, I'd still be insulted.
There's alot more brainwash in the world than politically-controlled religions... so I forgive you for trying to offend me. I can't be mad or insulted or judge you... It's not my place nor any other persons. We will all stand judgement before Jesus in all that we say and do. Religion is just a word, not THE WORD.
I am a christian, and my faith is not something that fills an empty hole Mr.Obama, it is my moral's,beliefs, lifestyle this is my calling, not just a phase or emptiness as your treat it mr.obama
(we have to remember the old testament religions come from a tribal Sectarianism culture which was essentialy not that lawfull.. thus it encorporated a lot of "honor" which is a common theme in lawless societies.
then of coarse it was merged with the gentile religions who had been formed in authoratarian city sates. (a lawfull authoraterian culture)
the merged combination looks very artifical when you really examin it...
However if it can play according to the rules above then it can be a positive source of inspiration...
But static moral values are not of any practical use other then those are truely universal and beond debate... like "thau shalt not kill" and "thau shalt not steal"
"Faith doesn't mean that you don't have doubts. You come to church precicely because you are of this world not apart from it. You need to embrace Christ precisely because you have sins to wash away and it was because of this new found truth that I was able to affirm my faith...my doubts didn't magically disappear but kneeling beneath that cross I felt that I heard God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to his will. And dedicated myself to discovering his truth."
the phrase separation of church and state is nowhere to be found in the Constitution or the first amendment.... if people actually knew what was in the Constitution then the U.S.A would be a better place.
Separation of church and state is a Jeffersonian phrase that easily and accurately describes the 1rst amendment mandate on the relationship between religion and govt. I'm not entirely sure what your suggesting, but the phrase is certainly not a bad one to use.
that phrase is nowhere in the Constitution. It came from a court ruling in the '50's. I'm just saying that if you look at the history of the U.S., church and state are most certainly intertwined.
1rst amendment : "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." The exact phrase may not be there, but as i said, the phrase does a pretty good job summing up what is there.
yes, the govt. can't establish a state or national religion that everyone must follow and yes, any religion can be practiced here. that is hardly separation of church and state. That is all the 1st amendment says.
Jefferson -- "religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."--
He contends that Church and State remain separate! How dare he? How dare he try to find a commonality to unite us rather than take the fanatical tactic of instilling prejudice and religious discrimination!
Come on people now. Smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now.
It is amazing how people can listen to the same speech and come to completely opposite conclusions. He gives clear testimony "kneeling beneath the cross" "sins to wash away" "submitted to His will" "affirmed his faith" "I felt that I heard God beckoning me".
It is unusual wording for him. He rarely speaks of United States Citizens as "them" in any of his other speaches as is the case here. It's a strangly removed speech for me. But now that I look at the date of the speech it just shows me how he much he has grown into the leadership role over the last few years. Granted, he is not overt about a direct personal relationship with Jesus Christ but for that matter many Catholics do not either and we clearly don't question their faith. Or do we?
hmm I don't know if I would go that far... but after watching this, I do have serious doubts about his faith. Does he believe in Jesus Christ or does he believe in the "African American religious tradition" and it's power for social change?

common beliefs in precisely WHAT?
he's inviting us to be unified, without actually giving up our own religion. or thoughts, or sentiments.

@IAmHilarious Which is bad. God tells us to trust the Bible (God's Word) as the source of Truth.

I dont see why people just dont respect the first amendment. If we *actually* separate church and state, the U.S.A would be a better place.
