My Akita got into a fight with a pit it was pretty even .After the fight the pit came up to me and laid at my feet .I played with him for a little bit .Now I cant keep him on his side of the fence he comes over and plays with my Akita ALL the time LOL .He is also very protective of the Children in the Cul De Sac and our city is not Pit friendly AT ALL

I've been bitten in the neck by a mistreated poorly socialized rottweiler. I have also owned a Rottweiler after being bitten. My dog was my little baby boy. He was a 140 pound Rottweiler who loved every minute we spent together. He just recently died in my arms of cancer. The dog that bit me went on to bite another man and I believe ended up getting put to sleep. The point is not all dogs are the same. Just like not all people are the same. Breed or race makes no difference. All r individuals.
@BlizzGMX I lost my baby 3 months ago. Sweetest dog I ever had, never once growled without meaning. He saved my life, I tried to kill myself but of course failed then I got Rylond, he turned my life around. When I got him he was 60lbs of love left on the streets to die, my mom took him from the pound and brought him home. I come back and he licks my face and thats how he started to put my life back together with one kiss at a time. Before I had him I had Whiskey a big protective Rottie.
because they are small and less intimidating, so they dont focus on biting. I've had rottweilers all my life, and am getting a rottie puppy in 2 months. My in-laws have a pitbull, and she is the sweetest thing I've ever met. Kids from the neighborhood always come by to see her, she doesn't have a "Vicious" bone in her body. It's the owners NOT the dogs fault.

I understand peoples fear of these breeds. The media has blown the situation up totally and puts so much focus on these breeds in a negative way. I wish they would do balanced coverage and show all the search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs and other helper dogs of these breeds. They can be absolutely amazing in the right homes. Again, the problem is keeping them only in the right homes, not the wrong homes.
AdoreYouInAshXI Your statistics are correct. Pits, Pit MIxes and Rottweiler's are at the top of the list for fatal dog bites. I have however read the cases over more then once. and each and everyone has one common factor. People that made mistakes or were outright neglegent. I do not condone any Breed Specific Legislation because it doesn't solve the problem which is neglegent owners. Those people will still be a problem, just with a different breed.
Pits and Rotts make up 90% of dog bite fatalities in the US, don't believe me? Look it up. You can train these dogs all day long every day to be nice and sweet, bottom line they are vicious by nature, it's in their blood. Just because you own one that hasn't bitten your head off yet doesn't mean shit. They are very dangerous and should all be shot or put to sleep.
@AdoreYouInAshXI I have had Rottweiler's for the past 34 years and ALL of them spent years working as Therapy dogs going to hospitals, nursing homes and children's centers. NONE of them ever bit or threatened to bite in any way. I have never met a breed of dog that was better with children, if properly trained. Look up those statistics you are talking about and read the cases. I think you will find another common factor besides the breeds. THE STUPID PEOPLE. not well socialized dogs.

Nonsense video, pictures of your dogs at home looking relaxed and cuddly doesn't detract from the fact these breeds are potentially more aggressive than other breeds. Add that to bad owners and that's why they are misunderstood. You may be a good owner but most who are attracted to these dogs for their temperament are not.

@REY4262 either dog would be good. pits have tons of energy so if ur lookin for a running partner hit your local animal shelter you can get one for practically free and they ususally come with all their shots and spayed/neutered already. but both breeds have the love and best friend quality! my fave is the rottie but like i said if i needed a running partner id probably go with the pit
I LOVE rotties they are so beatiful!!! I want one but living in a small community i fear having one because of that fact, and their reputation, people not knowing me or anything about them, they could get stupid and try to distroy it if i had one.

They are such beautiful guys. The so called 'bad dog ' reputation they have are because the human parents have not been good. In my opinion all dogs are loving and caring and protective....nothing wrong with that right? I am sure you all agree with me that dogs are man's best friends...if we only give them a chance. i had a rottie once her name was cassie she lived till 13 or 14 then she deid of hip arthritus and diebetys she was the most gentalist dog ive ever seen her best friend was a chicken and they would sleep together and eat together and one time she found a rat and tried to mother it for a week these animals are beautiful..

Awww they look so cute all together posing, cuddling, taking naps. Just by looking at them they seem to be the best of buddies. Did you get them as pups? You did a good job. People are so ignorant. I think some of you don't understand the claims of aggression. Obviously its very unlikely for this breed to attack its owner, they are extremely loyal and extremely protective. But thats where the problem is. The issue is when the dog is introduced to people its not familiar with which it may see as a threat, and is more likely to become aggressive. Like ppl post vids of them playing with babies as proof that they're not aggressive, which is absurd
@1Vella So is assuming that because people post claims of their passiveness and loyalty, they are speaking strictly of the dog's relationship with the owner. Most people have clearly stated "When raised right..." which means that you not only condition the dog to obey and protect you, but to get along with others as well. It's not the breed, it's the people raising -or lack thereof- the breed.
it doesnt matter what kind of race the dogs are. it just matters how they grow up, if they grow up under violent circumstances then it is not just the pitbull, etc who gets aggressive even a golden retriever would go violent....

Many pitbulls are too agro to be good pets, execute them all. Fighting dogs should be illegal. My friend when I was a kid got mauled by one and almost died.

I do think they can be a bit dangerous to a certain extent. Its not that they'll attack their owner, on the contrary they are very very protective. And sometimes thats where the problem is. Its their reaction towards people and dogs that they might not be used to gets some people a bit scared. Its rare for them to attack their owner, but when you get strangers in the house, or friends that the dogs doesn't know, in order to be protective, they become aggressive
@1Vella which is precisely what advocates have been saying. Raising a dog right doesn't just mean that it's good to it's owner. It means that it can socialise well with other people and dogs, and knows right from wrong. If the owner doesn't teach it that it that befriending other people/animals is okay, then who's fault is it really when the dog becomes "dangerous?" It's not nature, it's training.
@Amarianee but its entirely plausible to say that some breeds are more susceptible to certain behaviors. Just like certain physical traits are genetic, so are certain character traits. I'm not saying that Rottweilers shouldn't be allowed as pets, definitely not, but I do believe that they may need more attention and care than other breeds do, especially when it comes to training them to deal with other dogs/ppl.

Pitbulls are actually being banned in some cities near where I live, and it's really bullshit. And also, in Michigan, they are to be euthenized if they are picked up by the pound. I love my pits. I've had 3 in my life, they're the greatest dogs in the world, and not harmful at all-if raised correctly-except to rabbits, squirrels, footballs, and basketballs. Never harm a human though.

Did you know a beagle has a higher aggression rate than a pitbull? Yeah that's science right there. :D Our rottweiler is scared of our cat and shadows, trust me he's not gonna hurt anyone. He's the sweetest thing and we found him in LA, who knows what he went through, but now he's perfectly trained.
I work at a animal shelter/animal regulationns building. The most common breed to come in for attacking a person or aggression are Labradors and Golden Retreivers. The more common a breed the more likley for a bad person to get them. I agree with you 100%, 70% of the "pit bulls" we get in aren't pit bulls but labs, boxers, bulldogs, ridgebacks, and many more.
I personally fucking hate little dogs, just me. i love ur rott tho i had one since i was 6 and i had to put it to sleep last year, still miss her to this day.

i have 5 pits and a pomeranian and you are more likely to get bit by the pomeranian than any of my pits. my pits wont even realise you are there until the pomeranian starts going nuts. then they bark just to be a part of whats going on.

i had my staffy from the rescue at 6months old, from day 1 i showed him we were boss, for the 1st months my 2 year old girl fed him treats, not me and my hubby. we taught our kids to respect the dogs space but to show him who was dominant.i used to stand over him and my baby son would crawl over and pin him down. never once has my dog even looked wrong at anybody's kids. my dog plays with a golden retriever and gets his but kicked in a play fight! he just to nice! i love my staffy bull
I miss my dog (Rottweiler) terribly, she died of Arthritis and intestinal problems. She was the absolute BEST dog EVER!!! She looked menacing to people that don't understand the breed, but as soon as they got to know her, they too loved her. She was little more then a "overgrown Teddy Bear". She seemed to have a sixth sense of who was friend and foe! And treated you accordingly. Even the mailman liked her! LOL

When I got him he was 60lbs of love left on the streets to die, my mom took him from the pound and brought him home. I come back and he licks my face and thats how he started to put my life back together with one kiss at a time. Before I had him I had Whiskey a big protective Rottie.

because they are small and less intimidating, so they dont focus on biting. I've had rottweilers all my life, and am getting a rottie puppy in 2 months. My in-laws have a pitbull, and she is the sweetest thing I've ever met. Kids from the neighborhood always come by to see her, she doesn't have a "Vicious" bone in her body. It's the owners NOT the dogs fault.

I understand peoples fear of these breeds. The media has blown the situation up totally and puts so much focus on these breeds in a negative way. I wish they would do balanced coverage and show all the search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs and other helper dogs of these breeds. They can be absolutely amazing in the right homes. Again, the problem is keeping them only in the right homes, not the wrong homes.

AdoreYouInAshXI Your statistics are correct. Pits, Pit MIxes and Rottweiler's are at the top of the list for fatal dog bites. I have however read the cases over more then once. and each and everyone has one common factor. People that made mistakes or were outright neglegent. I do not condone any Breed Specific Legislation because it doesn't solve the problem which is neglegent owners. Those people will still be a problem, just with a different breed.

Pits and Rotts make up 90% of dog bite fatalities in the US, don't believe me? Look it up. You can train these dogs all day long every day to be nice and sweet, bottom line they are vicious by nature, it's in their blood. Just because you own one that hasn't bitten your head off yet doesn't mean shit. They are very dangerous and should all be shot or put to sleep.

@AdoreYouInAshXI I have had Rottweiler's for the past 34 years and ALL of them spent years working as Therapy dogs going to hospitals, nursing homes and children's centers. NONE of them ever bit or threatened to bite in any way. I have never met a breed of dog that was better with children, if properly trained. Look up those statistics you are talking about and read the cases. I think you will find another common factor besides the breeds. THE STUPID PEOPLE. not well socialized dogs.

Nonsense video, pictures of your dogs at home looking relaxed and cuddly doesn't detract from the fact these breeds are potentially more aggressive than other breeds. Add that to bad owners and that's why they are misunderstood. You may be a good owner but most who are attracted to these dogs for their temperament are not.

I love rots,but pits suck! I say that bc my friend might die of her pit.She trusted that damn dog! @REY4262 either dog would be good. pits have tons of energy so if ur lookin for a running partner hit your local animal shelter you can get one for practically free and they ususally come with all their shots and spayed/neutered already. but both breeds have the love and best friend quality! my fave is the rottie but like i said if i needed a running partner id probably go with the pit

They are such beautiful guys. The so called 'bad dog ' reputation they have are because the human parents have not been good. In my opinion all dogs are loving and caring and protective....nothing wrong with that right? I am sure you all agree with me that dogs are man's best friends...if we only give them a chance. Awww they look so cute all together posing, cuddling, taking naps. Just by looking at them they seem to be the best of buddies. Did you get them as pups? You did a good job. People are so ignorant. They still don't understand why is it that these breeds; Rott / Pitt if they are vicious is because the person who owns them trains them to be this way. They receive no animal / human socialization whatsoever.

I think some of you don't understand the claims of aggression. Obviously its very unlikely for this breed to attack its owner, they are extremely loyal and extremely protective. But thats where the problem is. The issue is when the dog is introduced to people its not familiar with which it may see as a threat, and is more likely to become aggressive. Like ppl post vids of them playing with babies as proof that they're not aggressive, which is absurd

@1Vella So is assuming that because people post claims of their passiveness and loyalty, they are speaking strictly of the dog's relationship with the owner. Most people have clearly stated "When raised right..." which means that you not only condition the dog to obey and protect you, but to get along with others as well. It's not the breed, it's the people raising -or lack thereof- the breed.

and when people asked me the breed of the dog and when I said to them 'Pitbull',

I do think they can be a bit dangerous to a certain extent. Its not that they'll attack their owner, on the contrary they are very very protective. And sometimes thats where the problem is. Its their reaction towards people and dogs that they might not be used to gets some people a bit scared. Its rare for them to attack their owner, but when you get strangers in the house, or friends that the dogs doesn't know, in order to be protective, they become aggressive

@1Vella which is precisely what advocates have been saying. Raising a dog right doesn't just mean that it's good to it's owner. It means that it can socialise well with other people and dogs, and knows right from wrong. If the owner doesn't teach it that it that befriending other people/animals is okay, then who's fault is it really when the dog becomes "dangerous?" It's not nature, it's training.

@Amarianee but its entirely plausible to say that some breeds are more susceptible to certain behaviors. Just like certain physical traits are genetic, so are certain character traits. I'm not saying that Rottweilers shouldn't be allowed as pets, definitely not, but I do believe that they may need more attention and care than other breeds do, especially when it comes to training them to deal with other dogs/ppl.

Pitbulls are actually being banned in some cities near where I live, and it's really bullshit. And also, in Michigan, they are to be euthenized if they are picked up by the pound. I love my pits. I've had 3 in my life, they're the greatest dogs in the world, and not harmful at all-if raised correctly-except to rabbits, squirrels, footballs, and basketballs. Never harm a human though.

I love this video my 3 fave dogs the the rottie, the pit, and the yorkie. And yes rottweilers and pitbulls are grossly misunderstood they are dogs yes they are stonger than most but they are still man's bestfriend. And they learn what u teach them. I had a rottweiler and almost got a tiger stripe pitbull. But my rottweiler was the sweetest thing you ever known and very playful. :D

i totally agree, it depends on the owner, all those f****** people out there who train dogs to fight are sick people who should be the ones getting killed, not the dogs, its not there fault, and dont even get me started on the goverement, i know so many rootweilers and pitbulls that are the best dogs i have ever met, yeah there strong and might push u over :P but thats how they are! there strong dogs, and that dosent mean there gonna kill everyone!

Did you know a beagle has a higher aggression rate than a pitbull? Yeah that's science right there. :D Our rottweiler is scared of our cat and shadows, trust me he's not gonna hurt anyone. He's the sweetest thing and we found him in LA, who knows what he went through, but now he's perfectly trained.

I work at a animal shelter/animal regulationns building. The most common breed to come in for attacking a person or aggression are Labradors and Golden Retreivers. The more common a breed the more likley for a bad person to get them. I agree with you 100%, 70% of the "pit bulls" we get in aren't pit bulls but labs, boxers, bulldogs, ridgebacks, and many more.

i have 5 pits and a pomeranian and you are more likely to get bit by the pomeranian than any of my pits. my pits wont even realise you are there until the pomeranian starts going nuts. then they bark just to be a part of whats going on.

i HATE when ppl call them "dangerous" it breaks my heart. on te news it showed a "Top 10 Vicious Dogs"

5. five and under i forgot BUT! Pitbull and Rotties werent even on it! and the USA ppl voted on that list!!! plus, i had a Pitbull that got in the Animal Hospital for 1 week bcuz a German Shepard attacked it, they were both 3 years old!!

I had two rotties in my life, from mine age 12 to 22..
I like rottweilers more than any other race, cant be agressive if they are in normal contact with a people even we dont learn them.
Its true that females are easier to hang up, they are so cute :)) and so much like to play wit people :)) <3

i had my staffy from the rescue at 6months old, from day 1 i showed him we were boss, for the 1st months my 2 year old girl fed him treats, not me and my hubby. we taught our kids to respect the dogs space but to show him who was dominant.i used to stand over him and my baby son would crawl over and pin him down. never once has my dog even looked wrong at anybody's kids. my dog plays with a golden retriever and gets his but kicked in a play fight! he just to nice! i love my staffy bull

I miss my dog (Rottweiler) terribly, she died of Arthritis and intestinal problems. She was the absolute BEST dog EVER!!! She looked menacing to people that don't understand the breed, but as soon as they got to know her, they too loved her. She was little more then a "overgrown Teddy Bear". She seemed to have a sixth sense of who was friend and foe! And treated you accordingly. Even the mailman liked her! LOL

@MrWatchdog1 i really feel for you i had a rottweiler named Balou and he was there when i came home from the hospital as a baby and he loved me and protected me and was just a sweetie for the 13 years of his life. i miss him so much and sometimes still cry he was my first friend and my best friend i miss him so much!

my brother has a red nose pitbull, and his wife has a tiger striped pitbull terrier and those are the two most nicest dogs i have ever seen. do not hate on mean dogs because it's the person who trained them you should hate. my chihuahua will bite you before the pitbulls do

@Rottieboy13 rottweilers and pitbulls are great dogs. the media leaves the rotty with a bad rep and pitbulls have a bad rep cause of stupid ignorant people. people see my rotty and they immediatly avoid her, meanwhile shez the nicest dog u could ever meet. its all in the way the dog is braught up that people dont understand.
