  • There is this compelling theory that ADHD is in fact not a disorder, but rather the normal way for children to behave, and that expecting them to sit down and shut up for eight hours a day in a classroom is actually the problem.

  • Comment removed

  • @Girlpump35 ... you probably have what is called "enthusiasm" and an interest in life! you dont have ADHD based on what you described to me.

  • i smell bullsh#@ from these two speakers! children are developing and learning and coping...try to get your brand new car fixed at the shop id@#.

  • i dont want adhd, well, im 13, and everyone at my school thinks im a BITCH!!!! but they dont know i CANT CONTROL MY IMPULSES. and i just EXPLODE!!!! AND ADHD IS REAL, IF ANYONE THINKS ITS A FAKE AND IS JUST MADE UP, I HAVE ONE THING TO SAY: " SCREW U ASS HOLES!!! "

  • Mmmm, I will bet that people on medication are more likely not to abuse drugs later on in life, haha.

  • Totally agree with Dr Jensen: Biggest problem is under diagnosis and misdiagnosis of ADHD. Remember: ADHD the problem with diagnosis and treatment largely rests on the simple fact that we are diagnosing ADHD by superficial appearances, and not sufficiently focusing on underlying brain function - for specific recommendations on more functional diagnostic questions do take a look at my several videos on this pressing subject.

  • So when they are trying to find the truth about this...they get a woman and a child molester?

  • Where can one get insured

  • @PsychoNekoSan

ADD people look like idiots. Hate them. They all should take stimulants.

  • @coqpit77 @coqpit77 ADD people are idiots? I'm betting my IQ is way higher than yours. Let's talk some science or math problems PM.

Oh yeah, did you know Thomas Edison, Richard Branson, Bill Gates, many scientists, artists, musicians are ADD? Innovators and inventors are typically ADD because ADDers are more out-of-the-box thinkers. You on the otherhand are probably not creative at all...u're only good at following instructions and not coming up with new things yourself. You look to the past

  • @coqpit77 ...you only look into the past whereas ADDers lead the future. Many CEO's, businessman like entreprueners are ADD. Lastly, you're stupid. That's confirmed by your comment on another video (hyperfocus is a trait specifically for ADHD; that's how I excel quickly in the things i like to do - write music, design things/engineering, and own coqpit77's face). Also, I bet I know more about airplanes than you do; I drew a schematic of the rudder controls when I was 14. top that bitch.

  • if i didn't have it, basketball wouldn't be as fun :)

  • add and adhd are crap

  • I have adhd.

I used to to take riddeline when i was 5-8 years old.

In order to fix the problem,i take coffee.

    caffeine works the same.

  • If the primarily taught subject was Art.....the front benchers would become backbenchaers and the backbenchers would be pulled up front.....those backbenchers would then get tagged as "Art Deficient". GOD has had a way of building hedges around the Talented so that they may go in the Way of their Gifting and not dabble in what they were not meant to dabbling in. Most ADHD or Dyslexic students have Artistic Abilities unavailable to the scolastic ones! Sadly we've been too pathetic to understand!

  • i have that!! HAHAHHAHAHA

  • y00ch is quite correct. ADHD is not a disease- but it is a valid way of describing a certain category of human suffering. Like y00ch- I have been diagnosed with ADHD, and I have benefitted enormously from stimulant treatment. My ADHD comes from having a very different unique and powerful brain. Now that I have trained my attention, stimulants are irrelevant. I class myself as "attention difference" and revel in the oppositional nature of my character proud to be different.

  • disappointment? failure? stupid? lazy? crazy?

    how about "gifted?"

  • ADH is a disorder from the perspective view of someone who think it is a disorder without considerating the tillion other perspectives.

  • @thingy12345678: I have ADD and I don't think it's a disease.........but I'm glad you've made life work for you ;-).

  • if i was dianosed with adhd when i was little i probabally would have been able to focus and keep my attention on things. i have impulstivity and im very irritable. i get aggravated very easy also. if i am bored i fidget a lot. i have adhd now and didnt get diagnosed until like 2 or 3 months ago.

  • @sugarpiexoxo1987: I was never properly diagnosed, period. I was instead slapped with the Asperger's label and forced to attend 'Social Skills'{more like social isolation}classes. My parents being a little too overprotective at times didn't help me either.

  • @JohnnyDart76 what is Asperger's? i think ive heard of it b4. it took 4 ever 4 me 2 be diagnosed. they never knew what was wrong lol. that sucks. my parents were sorta overprotective, but not always

  • @sugarpiexoxo1987: Well, it's pretty complicated, but basically, if you have an IQ above 90, and don't have any uncontrollable problems, then you probably don't have Asperger's. {P.S. my parents were a bit overprotective as well.}

  • shrinks my ADHD ass. that only will decreacs self esteam of those old enough to realize that they go to a mental doc and make them feel dumb. i LOVE IT! i dont feel like myself when im medicated.

  • @PsychoNekoSan yeah well sometimes academic and relationship problems outweight the awesomeness of having adhd... i have adhd inattentive type btw..

  • im 25 year old female with ADHD/ADD and ive found that the medication makes me pay attention but also makes me sick so i just use other methods which help more then the meds. by the way im wondering is there a connection between ADHD and depression

  • @agetlostgirl : Hi, I have ADHD Combined Type, I think depression is connected (although unproven to be so) to ADHD/ADD because of the following theories based on my own life experiences: misunderstood by peers and adults, totally fell through the cracks in the public school system from Kindergarten (now called ECL) to Grade 12. I had run-ins with authority figures basically because I just couldn't communicate (that's part of the ADHD) which was very stressful. I think the two ARE connected.

  • @Nethercore i hear ya... same here : ) youre not alone

  • @agetlostgirl (second reply) And I didn't get diagnosed until I was in University. That's where all the care is going, not in the school system leading up to that. My life was very dysfunctional because the school psychologists that looked at me made mistakes both times I went to see them. So basically, it made my life very hard right up until Uni.

  • adults still have adhd

    you dont grow outa this

im adhd and im always treated like a child by my teachers evin tho im nerly 16

thy evin speak slowly to me

i think thy need beter traing or somthig

  • Just take it one day at a time and use mindfulness. Mindfulness works more for me than any medication that I take. I think I have the ring of fire ADHD and I 99% sure I have AS.

  • child, child, child, child.CHILDREN GROW UP. There are people that are in their mid 30's (born prior to 1975) that can't get a diagnosis since a MD is not the person to go to - they don't know enough about it. A specialist costs LOTS of MONEY and not everyone HAS that type of MONEY. Oh, and not everyone wants kids either.

  • And what happens to those children AND adults that have ADHD as well as Asperger Syndrome??

  • I used to think this was a real disorder. Then I came to realize the world is freaking boring.. with entirely too much information that is dragged out to the point where you do want to tune out. Also, kids are smart, and need much more stimulation than video games, and TV as well as discipline. I have seen children at the age of 4 grinding lip till blood was showing due to OD on stimulants.. all he needed was a smack on the butt, which the parents could have cured without poisoning the child.

  • smakin ur kids isent a way to help them

    wise up

  • You are right.. don't smack them, and let them grow up... they have no discipline, become spoiled rotten and beat the crap out of the parents , thinking it is AOK!

  • ohhh come on

just because you dont physicly abuse you kids wont make them spolid

    or beat ther paerents

i was never hit as a child and no body i know was

and ther all civilised and non parent beating

    suposed to u

hiting your kids is mentaly damaging but thats AOK!

  • What is more damaging then hitting your kid, is letting him grow up to think HE/SHE is the only one that matters.. no, we all matter, and self control is sometimes taught through the means of a spanking, NEVER a beating! The prob is, the lack of self control people have when dishing out discipline!

  • @Melindaca2: No, abusing your kid is FAR worse than overspoiling them, although the latter isn't good either.

  • @Melindaca2 You think ADHD/ADD can be cured by spanking? that's like chasing a person with a broken leg with a taser so you can "train" him to run. There is a confirmed physiological difference in the brain. THEY CANNOT CONTROL IT!!!! I grew up with very very strict parents that demanded only A's from me. And I had ADD! DO YOU FUCKING KNOW HOW MUCH I SUFFERED?! MY LIFE WAS FUCKING TORTURE AND FULL OF MISUNDERSTANDING. I COULDNT STOP MY ADD TENDENCIES BUT HAD TO KEEP MAKING A's.

  • @felix242 ----Go back and read my post. I was referring to ONE particular spoiled rotten 4 year old that was being poisoned by Ritalin, and it was apparent this child needed discipline. I was not speaking about all kids, or all people with signs of ADD/ADHD. If a parent is treating a spoiled kid with drugs, the parent has more of a prob than the kid. Drugging up a kid is better than a spanking. ADD is more recognizable than being a spoiled freaking brat? come on? Parenting by drugging.. NICE

  • @Melindaca2 You have a point if you were refering to one instance of a spoiled 4 year old getting Ritalin instead of proper parenting.

  • @Melindaca2 after my parents realized I had ADD, they all the sudden became really nice to me and treated me like a baby. Yeah, they were wrong just like you are wrong. If I ever find you I swear I will DISCIPLINE YOU you stupid bitch.

  • @felix242 --- Ya know.. I love when I get these comments in my inbox. Someone trying to make a point, with an insult of hate and anger at the end. Very difficult to value your point of view.

  • @rachelclarkson1: Exactly.

  • @Melindaca2: Are you kidding me? Lady, I have ADD myself. It's far more complicated than just 'lack of discipline', which won't be cured by smacks on the butt.............you wouldn't say that about autism, would you?{I didn't think so.}.

  • Ah, listening to this report was a breath of fresh air! Finally people are starting to get it. (except of course the scientology freaks)

  • Sure, expect for those adults that may have it and do not have the thousands of dollars to get a freaking diagnosis. These people act as if it is free to see a specialist. Those adults that have KIDS could get a diagnosis if their children get one, but what about all those 30 somethings outthere that do not have children? What about them?

  • Well made point!

  • ask a psychiatrist about medication

  • It's not a disease. It's a difference. Plus I just think it's diagnosed too much with kids who don't have it the kids who really have it. Like, what if you're just giving your kid sugary cereal every day? I feel bad for the kids who are given meds and they don't even have it. Not saying you have to take meds. :D <3 <3

  • there is no evidence to show that it is over diagnosed. but there IS evidence to show it is under diagnosed. sugar has no effect on adhd. but your heart is in the right place so i wont attack your position

  • ADHD should not be thought of as a "disorder" it is a condition with positive ramifications. Yourself or loved one is increadibly talented and we must recognize this. There is too much emphasis on how we can't function. We must realize the amazing amount of talent given to us. Living with it can be hard but the upsides are worth with. I have it and I know this for a fact.

  • thats what they say but can they walk the walk. I recently had no choice but to drop out of college because of the classroom discrimination and how it was affecting my grades. I know we have the ada, but no law backs them up. if your adhd and are so dibilitated, that it affects school work, then expect no help, the law protects the school not you and thats a problem in our country, especially with competitive grading

  • also, I had a proffessor that screamed at me to leave and said that "this is no place for sick people". it really hurts to this day.

  • terrec i have a horrible story with my professor if u want to talk about it then comment because its a long story and i dont want to write it in the comment section

  • but the child can have VERY MANY problems if the child is not able to manage it and if those around the child don't help

  • true. people with adhd have alot of talents and gifts that others do not. HOWEVER, there exist many negative consequences such as social rejection, absent mindedness, and the stigma that there is something "wrong with me" unless these problems are dealt with by a team of the parent, a professional, and the child's teachers the result is catastrophic. i am the perfect example of what happens when adhd is not treated

  • @y00ch: Yet so many people get pissy when you even mention the words 'autism'{or Asperger's} and 'disorder' together.

  • @y00ch: I completely and totally agree with that.

  • @JohnnyDart76 Thanks! Its true! Because currently we have a diagnosing paradigm that is old and out dated and it doesn't recognize positive aspects of individuals. The labels that psychiatry use are demeaning and controlling. They only concentrate on negative aspects of people.

So if anything I propose one large disorder : SDAP (So Do All People). :)

  • @y00ch Every healty, creative humans are nessesary for the evolution as they all come from the same source and converging to the same point. Look if we compare to a fast and strong animal, we can see that we are missing this ability to smell and run that fast, but after idk maybe 1 million years, of evolution we came to a point we can change our future and expand to the infinite in theory. So it is a disorder? Maybe, but that disorder lead us to find another way, and also better way to think.

  • @y00ch I have it too, I have many talents that I've even been awarded scholarships for, but I didn't think it had anything ot do with my ADHD... what are you referring to? ive never heard this before but it sounds interesting.

  • @y00ch I also have it and must ask what upsides?

  • hackiyak, you are not going to f*ck anything up but your own brain with the drugs the pharm companies are peddling to you to numb, destroy your brain and dumb you down as you already are! And you still are fighting with people but now it is not cute.

  • When they meant Diagnostic criteria.. they are basically describing the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)..

It contain all symptoms and findings of all abnormal disorders in psychology. It has been developed through the years of study of different doctors all over the world..

  • Doctors make MONEY, the disease of adhd is a marketing ploy!

    bullshit says it all....

BTW, i deal with these children everyday

  • u go fuck urself. look i need to be tested for it, sometime by the end of this year or next year. and i'm almost certain i'm sufering for it. do u think its fun to not be able to pay attention, feel as if u're going to faint when u're listening to lectures. i have been, suspended, i have gotten into trouble with people for stupid things i said. due to my hyperactivity i have broken glasses, vcr's, and did dangerous stuff like climb up up to my roof and through grapes at cars-adhd is real, not fact

  • Ok, so bad behavior is beyond your control.

  • tkd, i'm sorry about insulting u and ur opinions, this is a free world and i shud listen to them instead of lashing out. but ok u see tdk bad behavior, isn't beyond the control of people with ADHD, but their control over their behavior is significantly impaired , the same with attention. so e.g. in my case of hyperactivity i have bad behavior and i will jump around run around, pretend i'm shooting things and it's really weird that it "feels" as if i can't stopit, my energy seems to never run out

  • and besides feeling like i am not being able to stop thinking, my attention span is way too short. and th funny thing is that many kids with ADHD can concetrate in their hobbies but nothing else. if ur against the ADHD diagnosis, then express ur opinions freely and do ur best to prove it to us, i think its a veryy real and serious.

  • I havent been diagnosed for ADHD or but when was a kid my teachers were suspiscious that I might have it. Instead it turns out that I'm gifted lol.

Fuck academia, these "conditions" are all just labels used to categorize people for convenience and are WAY OVER SIMPLIFIED; just like the labels "black" , "asian" , "goth" , "jock" , "gifted" , "talented"

these are just labels implicated to categorize other people more effectively so they can assign them generalized properties! It's all bullshit

  • "diagnostic criteria" is literally the criteria doctors use to diagnose.

Diagnostic refers to the word "diagnosis" which means to assess or analyze something.

Criteria is a set of conditions which must be met for something, in this case the set of conditions a child must have to have ADHD.

So "diagnostic criteria" is the conditions or symptoms the child shows which lead to a diagnosis of ADHD

  • More children are being "diagnosed" with a manner of psychiatric problems these days, especially in the U.S., in a culture that seems to have become fixated on quick fixes, and a pervasive impatience with those who prove themselves unruly in the classroom, the workplace, or any other socially intensive environment. Popping pills, be it for weight loss, or any of the myriad health related issues in our culture is much preferred than hard work and committment, and the pharmaceutical companies reap

  • @whiff1962: Well, you did get one thing right, ADD{unlike autism} isn't a disease of any sort.

  • replicable with diagnostic criteria. That is to say, that the mental health profession at large, and mental health counselors in particular can rely on the DSM as a means of categorizing individuals based on a list of behaviors. ADHD, is not, in the medical sense (nosology) a disease.
