i loved the pizza and pipes off of arden in sacramento, ca why don't they have them any more who wants to go to chucky cheese and look at some damn mouse when WE can look at something so awesome like the organ BEING PLAYED LIVE and ALL THOSE PIPES AND MUSIC THINGS EATING PIZZA AND DRINKING SOFT DRINKS>
@betuwant2seemenow You can still find three of 'em, though none are in CA. Sacramento had a 4/20 (4 keyboards, 2 sets of pipes) Wurlitzer. Organ Stop in Mesa, AZ has a gigantic 4/78 Wurlitzer, 2nd largest in the world, on a rotating elevator. Organ Piper in Greenfield, WI has a 3/30 Wurlitzer/Kimball hybrid. The Lansing location of Illinois chain Beggar's Pizza has a 3/17 Barton organ. At one time or another, over 100 of these places came and went all across the US and Canada!
God I miss this place I used to go there when I was a kid & play video games pinball & listen to the pipe organ play for hours & hours those were good ol days. Sadly it's a breakfast place now :.(
@TEMPmichaelhansen I'm happy to say, I'm still alive and well, living in the Chicago area. Not playing anywhere at the moment, concentrating on composing, arranging, and practicing my alto sax.
Angelino's was one of the smallest of this sort of place I ever saw, and the second smallest I heard of, at about 14 ranks (sets) of pipes. Angelino's and Dean's masterful control over this sweet little soft-orchestral Wurlitzer (I think the loudest reed was something like an Orchestral Oboe!) and his on-the-fly stop changes will be missed. Nice copy of "Also Sprach Zarathrustra" here, a lot of power out of this instrument, and also those wild and loud Robert Morton style horse hooves.
There was a place like this in Tacoma, WA. But that restraunt was basicly an auditorium with tables instead of theatre seats. I t was so awesome and made a me a lover of the pipe organ. Sadly it burt down and the property is now TGI Fridays. How tacky.
Wow, was I ever surprised to stumble upon this! No, place closed in 2007, Ye Olde Pizza Joynt closed due to a fire, and Bella Roma in Martinez closed soon after, so there are no longer any Pizza/Pipes type restaurants left anywhere on the West Coast. The closest is Organ Stop in Mesa, AZ. Pity. I'm so glad there was a video documenting the place, it really was a little gem. The organ was sold to a private party who is building an addition onto his home for it.
This brings back fond childhood memories. I went to a Pizza restaurant, very much like the one shown here, and it was called, "Melody Inn', situated in Los Altos, California, before it closed for good. And then, many years later, i went to Pizza and Pipes, near highway 280 turn off, and then, there is another one down, in the heart of Redwood City, near the Cal Train tracks.
Redwood City P&P got rid of the organ (sold to an organist in Atlanta, currently in storage) and turned the pipe chambers into a video arcade around 1999. Serramonte P&P off 280 in Daly City closed in 1996( the organ sold to a broker, then broken up for parts and scattered).
The organ from Ken's Melody Inn is still playing in Florida at Roaring 20s Pizza & Pipes, after having spent some time in a pizza parlor in, I believe, Michigan. It's still looking and sounding as good as ever, and there's footage on YouTube.
