It is not that bad, you can understand all the words. But you do change the score: you sing notes that are not there, and that is not done in classical music. Sometimes you sing a wrong note, and sometimes you make extra notes that Franz Schubert never wrote.
@ericbrockway thats right, he didnt sing exactly the was it was writen, but still i bet that if he, schubert was his performance, he'd like it, specially since schubert actually used the guitar to aid him in his own compositions. and i beleve it still is music.

To modelfifteen. If you do not like this Performance fair enough-you are entitled to your opinion, but please do refrain from calling this Performer a Jerk,it only makes you sound like a jerk.By the way, opinions are like Arseholes...everybody has one.
I'm sure Schubert is smiling on Hezy Levy. It was considered a great honor for a German composer to have one of his songs become a popular song, cherished by all.
very nice interpretation (with a fine oriental element on "heiden" at 1:15 ;-)
[about interpretations: a friend of mine and me mixed the text of "Heidenröslein" with spanish pronounciation and the melody of "Buena Vista Social Club" (no Schubert any more). It works and it's THE hit we have to sing the most, when we are together with friends, making some music - since four years...]
This is terrible. Apart from the lack of interpretation of text, he brightens his voice too much and has no idea of how the language should be spoken. He also diverts from the original music, such as holding the 'heiden' at the end of phrases. What a jerk.
First of all, to call him a jerk is kind of foolish. This guy does a very nice job. He has a nice bright voice that fits the song. As far as interpretation, he has a red rose sitting on the table, so he has an idea what it's about. Considering he doesn't natively speak German, his pronunciation is not bad. His modifications are what makes his music his own, and not another copy of the original. Whoever wrote that comment obviously has no ability to recognize talent.
First of all his pronunciation is better than one would expect from a non native speaker.
Secondly i believe music is open to interpretation. Especially considering that the original piece of music by Shubert was also a musical interpretation of a poem written by Goethe
Music developes with diffrent interpretations! As long as the original is not forgotten, music itself can only profit from it! Apart from that ..... I've heard classical versions of this song that were much worse, sung with a much more disturbing accent than this one.
im from germany and in my opinion his pronunciation is pretty good. of course its hard if you arent a native speaker but he did a good job...as a german i did understand everything but i think i didnt get the meaning of the poem...thats melancholy romantic and not just a nice song about a red rose...he didnt get this...if german can do one thing pretty good than it would be this romantic stuff...
not good to be using that kind of language here. Unkind, and only shows you up as something like what you call him. His German pronunciation is quite good enough to make a nice performance.
not for me. Too light.

Hey!! Well, IF you do find an agent for "our" country, please be so kind and pick another song for your performance! ;-)
Your voice might be good - but that song has to be sang with dwindling fervency...

it seems you lack the education to criticise somebody like that. for a non-german, i think he has sung it so well!
