Yes this is so beautiful. How good country music was back in the 60 & 70's I noticed a big change inthe late 80's to where most of the country music is not even close to real country and very little does today. Kitty, Loretta Lynn , George Jones, Freddy Heart, Conway, Statler Brothers John Conley, Barbara Mamdrreal etc . thats real country. Randy Travis and Allen Jackson have kept theres country and in my opion as a singer myself more in the gospel industry have done a great job.
@TimMcCoy100 Have a listen to the Statler Brothers doing Hello Mary Lou. If you like them then I'm pretty sure you'll like them doing this. The harmonies are fantastic.
The TRUE Queen of Country Music - saw her many, many years ago at Buck Lake Ranch in Angola, Indiana - she was there with her entire family - what a memorable show
@dadsgirl0423......Girl I dont know if "Slick"is at peace ,but if he loved Kitty ,he has to be.I lost my wife in 2005 It was 3 yrs before the heavy hurt started to fade.Girl, hang on,it gets where you will have more comfort than pain.Pleas do not wsh your life away.
@cuteoldguy SLICK WAS MY DADS NICKNAME LOL. HE WAS MY EVERYTHING TO ME AND MY WHOLE LIFE. I AM SORRY ABOUT YOUR WIFE I KNOW WHAT PAIN YOU ARE SUFFERING. WHEN GOD TOOK HIM MY WHOLE LIFE ENDED. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH SO MANY THINGS IN MY LIFE AND SURVIVED ALL OF THEM. LIFE IS NOT WORTH LIVING WITHOUT MY DAD. I AM IN SO MUCH PAIN AND SORROW I CAN SEE. ONLY SEEING HIM WILL TAKE IT AWAY. BLESS YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN.
I met Kitty and her husband way back in the late sixties. She did a show up hear in Canada. I was truly captivated by both of these wonderful people. She talked to me for 15 or 20 minutes and I was enthralled by this legend. I had been a fan of hers for many years. Sadly they don,t make country music like that today. Or at least the record companies don,t.. Here,s to you Kitty, Dolly , and Patsy and Loretta. from Harve north of the border
kitty wells was the first lady to convince me that country western was worth listening to way back in the middle 60's...i was listening to cousin brucie for too long...it was time to switch...it was not easy finding a country western station when you were brought up in NJ...but i managed to find one...on the old am stations...thanks kitty..
She sings it so well! There are no longer real country female singers any more as today's female country artist want to sing rock songs than true traditional country.
*****Kitty Wells is the True Queen of Country Music.***** Today it has gone to hell. We need more of the Beer Drinking, Love, Cheating songs. Bring back C&W as it was meant to be. Lenny Waller NYC
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL VOICE, I LOVE KITTY WELLS. SO DID MY BEST FRIEND (MY DAD) WHO I LOST ON NOVEMBER 19, 2008 HOW HE LOVED KITTY WELLS. YOU WILL KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVED YOU DADDY. SINCE YOUR GONE I FEEL SUCH A PAIN AND NUMBNESS IN MY HEART LIKE I HAVE NEVER FELT BEFORE. I CAN'T WAIT TILL I SEE YOU AGAIN ON THE OTHER SIDE. THIS ONES FOR YOU DADDY. @dadsgirl0423 I'm sure your dad is looking down on you and smiling. I wrote the same thing you did almost word for word to a cal smith song country bumkin that my moma loved. I lost her in March of 87. We will see them again, and how happy we all will be!
@dadsgirl0423 There is also an earlier version of Kitty doing this on here but I prefer this one. That's not to say that isn't good, it is, I just think this one is better.
its so sad that nashville has forgot what made it great... kitty wells, dottie west, loretta lynn, and so many others do not get the respect that they should.. thank you for posting this vidio
@tcguy26....I agree...Nashville & country music just aint what it used to be, and it's a real shame those days had to end. Kitty was such an influence on Loretta Lynn, (my personal favorite) and I believe that is because Kitty was a strong woman and broke down barriers for women, as did Loretta with her own songs. Kitty was awesome! :)
@nccountryboy90 YESSIR! I was in my ENT's office (singer doctor) and there was this old couple there chatting with him. Dr. Quisling lean over to me and said "Perhaps you know her by "Kitty Wells". I 'bout passed out!. I'm a vocal coach so it was a huge deal for me.

God save the Queen! Reba, Loretta, Dolly, will all tell you she is the Queen of Country Music and that without her none of them would have had careers.
Yes, it had to be from one of the CMAs during that period. I saw this very same set design from this video on some website when I did a Google search on the CMA awards.
It does look a bit odd seeing Kitty without her guitar. However, on most all of her personal engagements that I have been to, she would come out and do all of her BIG hits with her guitar; then on the second half of the show, her husband Johnny and son Bobby would join her on stage and she would perform without her guitar, even the solos that she sang on that last half. I'm old enough to remember when her daughters were a part of her roadshow too. Never another like Kitty, that's for certain!
Kitty Wells was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976. This is not the dress that she wore. The dress she wore can be seen in the centrefold of the "Family Souvenir Album" book that they sold at their road shows for many many years. Somewhere there is a clip of her induction floating around, as I have seen it. Minnie Pearl did the induction. One line from Minnie's speach says it all... "Miss Kitty Wells never 'acted' like a star! She never needed to!! Kitty Wells IS a star!!"
Thanks for the info! I have that souvenir picture album that you refer to, as well as anything else Kitty ever sold at her roadshows from the late 60s clear up until her retirement. I know the very dress you are refering to in that centerfold, but I guess I did not relate it to the Hall of Fame induction. Thanks again for clearing it up.
this is CMA awards from either 74 or 76. more likely 74. video of charlie rich from same show and he likely would not have been welcome on 76 show. same dress as 76 but i think i remember reading that Kitty wore it twice. It is in the hall of fame.
Yes, I think this may be the CMA awards. Crazy thing is, I remember seeing this very performance on TV all those years ago, but I just can't remember what show it was or put a date/timeframe with it. Yep buddy, that is my wish for you - to get to meet and talk with Miss Kitty face to face one of these days. I'll promise you this, she'll shake your hand and talk to you just like she's known you for years. That is just Kitty! Take care man! Mike
Josh, You may be absolutely correct. I did a little research on the web. Kraft Foods sponsored the CMA Awards during that time, and I saw some photos of the set/background for some of the old shows, and they looked just like the one on this video. So this may very well be from the 76 induction at the CMA awards. I also read that Kitty is now the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame. It is hard to believe that she will be 90 in August. LATER! Mike
You are correct, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976, but I honestly think this clip was a few years earlier, but I could be wrong. I'm going a lot on her hair style/appearance. I got to go to a lot of her concerts in the 70s and 80s and this just looks early 70s to me. I don't know about the dress. Sadly, I don't have any video of her induction, nor do I know if any exists. I would LOVE to see it though. Josh, I hope you get to meet her sometime. Catch you later! Mike
Josh, I'm guessing this to be around 1971, 72. I know Kitty was wearing her hair up in a beehive style on her syndicated family TV show back in 68/69, as well as on all of her persona appearances. Then, around 1970, 71 she started wearing it like this video. If you have the 1968 DECCA album "Kitty Wells - Cream of County" you'll see that beehive hair! I may be off a couple of years, but it was the early 70s I'm sure. Josh, I'll be in touch soon about those videos. Take care buddy, Mike
Thanks so much for posting this. What a trip down Memory Lane. I must confess, I'm old enough to remember seeing this one TV when it originally aired! This is THE Queen of Country Music. . . . . . PERIOD! FIVE STARS! Mike
