I drove this vehicle on saturday ( both manual and automatic), and I have to say the the manual was way more fun to drive than the automatic. However, the automatic did have the smoothest shifting transmission I have ever driven.

Tried PDK 997 mark 2... I own a manual mark 1 (2005-2008) I prefer mine...

Porsche needs to thoroughly update that interior (it's unbelievably boring) and give the PDK version proper paddle shifts; work on the weight distribution (lighter materials on the rear end), to improve the 38/62 bias, update the exterior a little bit (not too much!), and they'll have a winner for the next-gen 911! Otherwise the likes of Audi and BMW will hurt sales...

well the better mpg....0 - 100 stats.... of .4 second difference then manual..and the versatility of having automatic, padldle, and the tiptronic gear shifts seem worht the 2000 dollar option for me...its quite a beautiful car as well.
