  • truely amazing.. too bad, i will never have the chance to see the shuttle fly.

  • It's too bad that the most spectacular video of a night ascention is the day Obama has shut down the space program so that his welfare friends can get bigger checks.

  • wait a second wait a second.didnt discovery land on th eleventh?or is the main engine from the final launch?im confused

  • @jdwhite2001 It was from discovery's prior flight, the one in April of 2010.

  • Chuck Norris skydiving ?

  • @NextLvlProductions Best comment ever!!

  • Amazing video my friend, thanks a lot for share!!

  • I don't know why but this invokes fear and happiness inside me. This is awesome! :)

  • wow... this is absolutely amazing...

  • Cool! Thanks for sharing.

  • What is that ?

  • I was at the press site for this launch. From there, we were watching directly back from the tail of the orbiter and the plume looked like a large halo. The dawn lighting conditions were just perfect to capture that and I told as many of my collegues that we were something truely unique that morning. Nobody seems to have caught that image on film properly, but THIS one probably looks more spectacular.

  • @JMChladek Thanks. It definitely caught me by surprise, I was about to pack up and head for the car when I saw the plume and was blown away. I'm just glad I had the camera set up and ready to go to capture it.

  • beautiful

  • Science is so beautiful.

  • Man in tampa the exhaust looked like a glowing cloud I was at my bus stop

  • Sonic Boom at 1:24 right?

  • Awesome video... I keep watching it over and over. Thanks so much for posting! I drove down from Virginia to see this launch; was my first one and it certainly was spectacular! I watched the launch at the end of Haulover Canal in Mosquito Lagoon. I had taken my kayak and paddled to an area to watch. It was so much fun I may do it again for one of the two remaining launches.

  • that's just perfect lighting :p

    are there any 5d mk2 pics/videos?:d

  • i saw it that morning it was the coolest thing i have ever seen

  • I had the hardest time capturing this from the causeway. Eventually I gave up. You did a great job!

  • Yes that was quite an unsuspected surprise to see this just min's after the launch, was the dawn sun shinning on the exhaust of STS 131, was a multitude of colours when we saw it from the causeway.

  • amazing simply amazing

  • I saw that in person, Jesus Christ it was amazing.

  • @slash65 It definitely was!

  • @slash65 So did i. It really was an amazing sight.

  • Yes!!!! Just as I saw it with binuculars from the beach. it was an awesome sight!!

  • @rightdroite Which beach did you see it from? I can only imagine how amazing it must have looked through binoculars. I wish I would have been able to see that.

  • @BojoPlow I was at New Smyrna beach but walked to Cape Carnaveral National Seashore Park for the launch. I was alone there!! I expected to see a crowd but I guess no one walks anymore in our society LOL That was quite an experience as I had no one around me during the launch. Quite impressive!

  • @BojoPlow Cape Canaveral Seashore Park. The only downer was the sound from the waves.....it muffled the sound from the shuttle quite a bit.

  • I guess this happend due to Discovery launching over the horizon and it and the following exhaust plume being in direct sunlight while you where still on the ground in the darkness? The right place at the right time, a superb bit of footage, well done.

  • @Shoeyredvette Thank you.

  • @Shoeyredvette: Ummm, well, over the terminator...

  • Amazing video, NASA should be jeaulous :-)

  • @hackneysaregreat They should be, haha. Thanks :)

  • あ~わかった!日航ジャンボ機123便が撃墜されるまでに、後ろをピッタリ衝いてきた物と同じものだったわい!!

  • Or F - 18 fighter? What the heck?

    Are they 18 F fighters?What on earth?

  • @2006fbi No, it is rocket exhaust from the Space Shuttle launching towards the International Space Station.

  • @2006fbi

This is a view of the exhaust plum from the 3 main engines AFTER the boosters separated... which is WHY it looks so clean.

  • Is it? What?

    This?What?

  • @2006fbi It is video of the American Space Shuttle rocketing into space. This video shows the exhaust plume of the rocket engines once the rocket has reached the upper atmosphere. It points down following the curvature of the Earth.

  • これは?何?

  • I was there also but couldn't capture it with my consumer video camera. Fortunately, my nephew had his HD video camera with him and did capture this beautiful display as well as the cloud formed by the contrail with the sunrise illuminating through it. Still waiting for him to post it! It was my first time viewing a shuttle launch and I'm starting to believe that it was one of the most beautiful ever...it was surely worth the 17 hour drive from New Jersey!

  • where did you shoot this amazing footage from ?

The plume is so bright in your video, did it appear that way in person ? It was not nearly that bright when viewed from KSC causeway (see my video)

  • @Speckled10 I shot it from central Florida. It did appear that way in person from here, I almost think my video didn't capture its full brightness as I saw it in person.

  • @BojoPlow - fantastic ! I would say from your location the direct line through the plume down to the sunrise must have given it perfect angle for illumination from the rising sun. From KSC the sunrise was off to the right of view hence though clearly visible, not as bright as your awesome video here !

  • @Speckled10 It looked exactly like that. You could see it naked eye but With a pair of binoculars, you could see the 3 engines for a long time! I was on the beach during launch.

  • I saw this from north fla .awesome but the news made no mention of this plume

  • @darryldelay I thought the same thing, I've seen shuttle and rocket launches from Central Florida my entire life and have never seen anything like that before, I thought for sure the news would have noted the plume.

  • AWESOME!

  • Autobots!!

  • excellent footage

  • Good job. This is probably unprecedented video. NASA may be interested in your footage.

  • @lcs1956 I checked nasa no mention of this

  • Well done mate, amazing shoot indeed.

  • Great view! I was there at the launch and saw the "halo" around the shuttle. Well done! Wish my video would have captured that!

  • @abfly17s Thanks. Ironically, I almost didn't capture it, I was about to pack up when I looked back up at the decending shuttle and saw the halo.

  • This is very rare to see. Because it was a early morning launch, the shuttle launched INTO the sunrise. Where the shuttle is at, the sun is visible. On the ground, the sun hasn't risen yet. We can basically see the sun shining on the shuttle as it flies in space. Amazing.

  • Cool vid! never saw it like that....thanks

  • @airjamin8tor It was the first time I've ever seen it like that myself, it was quite the site.

  • awesome!

  • There is something about the angle and the sound and the lighting that makes this surreal.

  • looks like a giant condom

  • @kinsolvingfan87 Interesting perspective.

  • Grreat vid!!

  • oh man. absolutely amazing vid.

  • Excellent, EXCELLENT video! I was at the Kennedy Space Center, and yours is the only video I've seen that captured that rarely visible exhaust plume, illuminated by the pre-dawn sun. It was an amazing launch! You can even see the three distinct jets coming out of the main engines! Well done!

  • @toadelevator Thank you. It definitely was an amazing launch. I almost missed capturing the exhaust plume, I was about to pack up and head back to my car when I looked up and saw that plume. Definitely glad I caught it.
