Oh God, I knew it, I knew it!!! I went to the movies last night, to see this film because everybody was saying that it was very good and, in fact, I did absolutely love it because it's a BEAUTIFUL story and the film is well acted, etc. But I kept asking myself, all through the entire film, whether that elephant had been ACTUALLY beaten (or electroshocked) in her training, not being sure if......but now that I've seen this video I got the answer that I needed and suspected all along, sigh :-(((
With the technology of today we can even make videogames like Medal of Honor which are almost as realistic as the real thing, so why do we still need to use real elephants in a movie? I'm sure that with some people who have knowledge of computers and stuff related to that a very realistic elephant can be made in a digital way, and therefore the use of real elephants is not needed anymore. Why is that not being done?
It doesn't matter if she wasn't trained with violence for this film, she was abused before and that's why she's able to perform the way she does, I think the filmmakers should investigate the background of the animal suppliers before using their animals on movies.
@xbox644 I agree, it's really wrong to force animals to do things they shouldn't for human entertainment, it goes against their nature, but if they really want to have them in their movies at least they should look for suppliers that don't use violence to train their animals.

@Courtney22Lee Actually most, if not all, animal welfare groups do picket, leaflet, etc. to bring awareness to the public of the atrocities that are conducted to make elephants, and other performing animals, perform unnatural "tricks." Chimpchop has a valid point. It goes beyond elephants, though. Any performing animal is "reinforced" to perform the way the trainer wants them to, and they will use any means necessary to get them to obey.
She was not abused on the set of Water for Elephants. You need to make that clear in the video and description. Quit trying to prosecute the wrong people. It is NOT the film makers or casts fault. It is her trainers, take them on.
