To really appreciate this great song you need to listen to it on headphones. My favorite 3DN song. It always feels like the onset of Winter when I hear this tune.
I love nearly everything 3DN ever did, but the older I get the more I like the songs that didn't "chart" so well or have the critical acclaim that others did. Don't take this wrong... I love the chart toppers too. But IMO, this is one of the strongest songs, lyrically and certainly musically, that 3DN ever recorded. Of course the timing of the release of this song and the building, slow demise of the band as we knew it in the 70's, wasn't a good thing for either. But what a great song!
As a Doo_Wop lover, I consider this song up with the sound's of Doo-Wop. It goes to show that there is nothing like the sound of good music. Three cheer's for Three Dog Night.. "Hip-hip, hoo ray, hip-hip, hoo ray, hip- hip, hoo ray."
definitely a classic in my book ! i used to play this song when i was a d.j. back in the day. great vocals, great lyrics. i think it only got to about # 39 or # 40 on the pop charts but i always thought it should have gone at least top 10. classic!
didn't know I had any sobs left in me over your mom and Eddie...till now...I think of them alot and miss them tremendously...what a wonderful gift she gave you in this video....
I sang this song to my girlfriend on our way to Monterey back in 1976. She got so upset thinking I was dying or something that I had to pull off the road and tell her I was okay. Uh-boy.
The first concert I ever went to was Three Dog Night in the summer of 1975 -- they sang this song and it has always been my favorite of all their songs. I played it over and over then and still enjoy listening to it here.
Great song that brings back wonderful memories of an innocent time in my life... I was fifteen. My girlfriend and I had already been an item for two or three years and while listening to this song, we committed to each other that we would love each other 'til the world ends'. January of 2009 will bring about our 30th wedding anniversary and just over 35 years together. Even at the tender young age that we were, we knew that we were meant to be and we're still in love... just til the world ends.
128marks- Kuddos for the longevity with your- undoubtedly, lovely wife! Stick with it...My wife & I just celebrated 28 wonderful years of Marriage and 30 years together. I wouldn't trade a second of it for anything...'cause I've found MY one-&-only Soulmate and we're, as our sons put it: "They're so-o-o sickeningly in love!!", and we're jealous!
Thanks Bigdaddy... and kuddos to you and your wife for all of your years together. Sadly, it's really an uncommon thing any more to see couples stay together so long, although as I age (gracefully?) I do understand more and more the reasons why and sometimes find it hard to place blame anywhere. I'm just thankful for the blessings in our lives, and now to learn of the blessings in yours as well. Our first grandchild was born 11/14 so we feel doubly blessed right now! Best wishes to all of you!
....got my heart broken the day this song was released, so the words were, and still are, very appropriate for anyone who has lost someone they loved very, very much.....thanks.
I have this song on cassette tape from Casey Kasem's America's Top 40 that I recorded with a ton of songs back in the 70's. I used to sing this to one of my girlfriends. It was a real tear-jerker for her. Thanks for the memories.
Summer of 1975.The world was changing.Groups like Three Dog Night were fading out as disco was starting to emerge.I was going from high school to college myself so change was coming my way as well.
you are exactly right,I was a young shy highschooler trying to find my niche in life. The world of disco was just around the corner and many of my favorite groups like 3 dog night were laid by the wayside.
Thank you so much for posting this. This is one of my favorite rock ballads and Three Dog Night's final chart hit (#32 1975). It was written by Dave("Please Come To Boston") Loggins who also gave them "Pieces Of April(#19 1972).
What a great song...You did a nice job on this..I wish I knew how to make these. I thought i was the only guy in the world that liked this song. I can't believe I stumbled on this..I shared it with my friends

I bought a Three Dog Night CD in 1995 that features all of their Top 40 hits except this one. It was great to finally hear it!! Excellent ballad.

This song is pretty ironic, in the title--I'm refering to how the band was at the time of this song.

Hey, smarteepants, would ya happen to know WHY Chuck left 3DN? Write back if you've got some info about it. Hit #32 in Billboard. God bless!

Chuck Negron has one of the most versatile voices in rock history. He is still recording and touring.

I second the motion. My favorite of 3DN.
What a fantastic job on the video, too.
Also thought I was the only one who liked this one. It was the only one of all my favorites I couldn't get on YT until you completed my set last week!
