  • Gerald really fought the wrong fight. Like most punchers, he got too caught up in his own immortality as such; bad move against a respectable and durable champion like Benn who fought the fight of his life!

  • Nigel Benn has smashed McClellan in the back of the head repeatedly through out this fight, it's bullshit!

  • How was that a knockdown? Benn threw a punch wildly a missed.

  • Most of the people commenting on this video know Jack shit about the fight or boxing, infact it's usually the case with all the other vids on YouTube, people talking shit about subjects they know nothing about

  • not a fight!!!...u need to go to specsavers...like a real life rocky fight...the strength and heart of a lion of benn won him the fight...he would nt give up!!

  • poor fight my ass , it wasnt a fight , it was a tearup

  • As fights go this was poor, in fact very poor, those who say otherwise just don't know boxing, but still a very sad outcome.

  • The referee is a bloody idiot, & that's a fact. Wow this is war.

  • Incredible fight and huge heart from Benn coming back from the jaws of defeat on 2 occasions. Had it been another ref it could have been a different story. So sad to see what happened to McClellan.

  • re the mouthpiece i heard gman sacked his team before the fight and nothing was organised, he borrowed the mouthpiece from a heavyweight from the gym he was using in london

  • @wendalboy you care to tell me where you heard this from? i think the problem isn't the mouthpiece, but the fact that his brain is bleeding and he's very very slowly starting to lose consciousness. he's having trouble breathing and seeing at this point and sucking air as hard as he possible can. just my thought though.

  • @ducc764 read the book "War Baby" by Kevin Mitchell written a couple of years after the fight, goes into detail about mcclenan, the dog fights, the disorder in the camp etc really interesting book

  • so sad pause it at 01.00, its almost like you can see the fear in MCclellans eyes, I think he new at this stage something wasent right but pride gets in the way.

  • first time to watch the fight...always heard about it.... Benn awkward style and wow what a chin and head.....

unfortunate for GC... was a great fighter and champ

    :55-20 Benn is amazing

  • was that don king in corner at start of rnd?

  • Benn was all celebrating after punching a guy too many time in the back of the head, classy guy.

  • Benn got knocked out of the ring in the first round and was out for 15 seconds, and the ref still prevented Gerald from getting to him.

Later, Benn might have been able to get punches off, but like I said, was out on his feet. The HEADBUT occurred when a collapsing Ben hit his head on Gerald's face on the way to the mat--that's what nearly killed Gerald: a Ben who couldn't stand up.

After the fight: BEN COLLAPSED IN THE DRESSING ROOM and WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL..

Ref let go on too long.

  • Nigel Benn is OUT on his feet, and can barely walk after a ten count!

Referee should have stopped this fight then and there, Benn cant fight anymore, he is toast.

  • @faustozone You are clearly an idiot with the IQ of a gnat. Benn won the fight despite going out of the ring as he was a warrior and a true champion. I'm pretty sure the ref would have been aware of this. Also, do you really want to stop such a massive fight in the first round?? Both fighters know what they're getting in the ring for...

  • Wonderfull, let them kill each other, great.

  • Terrible ref!

Nigel Benn was NOT in good shape after a ten count, and he STAGGERED towards the ref, should not have been allowed to continue.

  • @faustozone

Benn was still fighting back and even landed some shots after he was knocked down, therefore he was hurt but in condition to fight.

  • Damm, the reff nearly killed both of these men for letting them fight after they were clearly hurt, Ben couldn't stand up anymore and slammed his head on Gerald, screwing him up for life. Fire that reff !

  • @faustozone

It was the accumulation of punches from Benn that did the damage, they don't call him the Dark Destroyer for nothing.

Stupid yank, Benn won, deal with it.

  • Ben and the ref teamed up to give a guy life long brain damage (punching in the back of the head) and you are cheering from the sidelines. Vulgar Oaf

  • gerald took benn out with delta force woah

  • wow - great punch by benn at 2.04..

  • mclellan let the let hook hit too many times to be a point ahead, and thats prob why he lost his "life" from that night on

  • wow gerald could of won it in round 8!

  • Bobby Czyz was a great fighter...crap scoring rounds and wrong with the gum shield..oh well.

  • man that co commentator is biased

  • @dessiedee yh, how the hell was gerald a point ahead at this point?

  • Karma for dogfighting.

    Nuff said-

I heard he sings "rock and roll mcdonalds" outside a mcd's in freeport illinois now for change.

    Fuckin bum.

  • tragic what happened to this guy....you can't blame Benn but he was aggressive and kept hitting behind the head and headbutting....boxing's a tough sport and Benn was a warrior, he did whatever it took to win....just hope it never happens again and it must be said the ref was a joke....I like to think the standard of them has improved too...

  • @ForestForever McClellan was also butting and holding an awful lot, i'll give you that Nigel was hitting on the back of the head and shouldnt have been but im pretty sure is adrenaline level was through the roof after the first knockdown, one thing about Nigel Benn is if you put him down early make sure he stays down as he was 10 times more ferocious when he was wounded, agree with you on the ref, cant remember him reffing a title fight since this night

  • 2 minutes an thse prick american commentators are making my blood boil.

  • Horrible ref

  • @Shirashama Gerald McClellan hadn't prepared properly. He had fallen out with Manny Steward, and wound up with a corner that included a guy he had met just three weeks earlier and who had never been a second before. I can't help thinking someone like Steward would have realised long before the fight was over that something was wrong because television replays show McClellan blinking in his corner from midway through the fight

  • @EBTerriers

he also hadn't been sparring and as you say, had no other people from his previous successful fights. He hadn't been drinking and wrapped his own hands before the fight!!

his super hard punching power was lessened by the fact that he didn't have someone to wrap his hands either. McClellan's situation was made much worse by the fact that apparently he was taken away from the london hospital he was in, and was transferred!? I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere else but was good info

  • @keithface Its been documented many times that the doctor pleeded with the family not to move him but the family had none of it and took him home far to early to the states !

Another thing he did wrong was underestimate Benns resilience/heart ......it all went wrong that night ..didn't it !

  • @keithface

I think you're confusing mcClellen's hospital experience with that of Michael Watson in the fight with Eubanks in 91who was without O2 for 18 minutes, then taken first to a London hospital with no neuro unit and then finally was taken to an ER with a neurosurgeon who operated as soon as he was wheeled in - 2 hours after the TKO. He survived but is disabled tho not as bad as McClellan whose injury was such he would not have survived such a delay - he got first class treatment.
