Because in portuguese the letter M is used only in the end of words. The word "Item" also exist in the portuguese language and the plural of it is "Itens". So it´s kinda confusing sometimes and we may end up spelling it wrong. My apologies for that but I don´t consider it a reason to call someone a "retard" for making this mistake...
