If gamedevelopers would use openGL than atleast games would be way more easy to port to linux and mac osx and bsd. With games that do run opengl they don't even bother to port that. Also opengl needs some patching up. But of course none of the great companies bother. They like it just how it is. Nvidia is intel and intel and ms are just superduperbff.
when its in tablet form, the only means of input are mic, camera, directional pad, and four game buttons (plus, obviously, any USB input device you plug in).. I don't like it in that form :/ no real point
It's pretty cool. A pity the guy keeps having to reach for the mouse (or what I'm assuming is a mouse). The way it folds over like that is very nice. They should make this available in the west, because people like me would love to get our hands on one, without having to worry about maybe it was taken from needy kids by gangsters.
jeez dude! look it up! U've never heard of the XO? its a laptop for poor nations. costs 100 bux, and they were running a promotion where you buy one for another country, and you get to buy one for yourself (only way for US consumers to get one)
FYI, there are USB ports on the side of the screen (as well as a memory card slot on the right side) - you can plug in a mouse and it works just fine.
Another thing I found cool when I got mine that I haven't seen mentioned - it actually comes with a app that turns the machine into a software oscilloscope (takes its input from the built in microphone).
it's now nearly a $200 laptop - but for the rest of the world the price is almost the same (and they're not sold in the USA so arguing over the price in dollars is a bit pointless)
$100 for a laptop? Uhmmm, hello, didn't I see a Compaq computer for a $100 (probably faster) this past black friday? Nigerian children want laptops? Shoulda waited in line at 2AM like the rest of us
with WLAN? low consumption? running under hand dynamo? backlit keyboard? enough stability? 1,4kg? flash instead of HD? Linux? transforms into a tablet? big touchpad? 3 USB-Ports?

Of course it can play doom. Doom is old news. Linux may be free but it certainly isnt cheap. I would like to see this thing run blender.

Isn't a better way to demostrate the capabilies of the education project OLPC than playing a violence game?

The XO doesn't have a mouse, just a touch pad, and that isn't used when in game mode.
He's passing something to the other programmer.

The dollar has fallen from 80 us-cent/euro to 1,32 dollar/euro, is this now a 200 dollar laptop or still 100$?

If this is supposed to be a laptop where is the keyboard?

To see all the features of the laptop, look at the related video on the right called 'Demo of first One Laptop Per Child prototype'

Muahahahaha! I really don't know why but this is just so damn funny to me. Doom is the first video game I ever bought.
I wonder how durable those low cost labtops are?

First? :P What the hell is this console thing?
Denic2k6 5 years ago
That's no video game console. That's the $100 laptop that was made so that everyone in the world can own a computer.
