  • Nice video;very informative,

I think I have a nice main seal leak and am considering pulling the engine (1300) to replace it.

I don't have the jig to measure the freeplay and was considering reusing the shims that are already in there...bad idea?

  • Before you pull the engine grab the crank pulley and give it a good push towards the front of the car then give it a hard pull it back. if it moves a lot then you end lay is way off or the case is beat out at the thrust bearing and case would have to be machined. If it don't move a lot the old shims will work OK.

  • thanks for this video helped a lot

  • when starting to set the endplay start by using the shims that were in the engine to start with. More likely then not they will give you the right setting.

  • thanks for this video, helps me greatly.

  • so that's how its done!Thank for the info

  • Great info.

This video describes the work I needed help with.

I plan to look for more info on what end play is and how to have it correct.

Your vid gives a good basis to start from.
