I'm glad to know those grubs are safe to eat. Not all bugs are. I'm worried about end-times prophecy and not being able to buy or sell without the Mark of the Beast so any way I can learn to get food that doesn't come from a grocery store is a good thing. Thank you for these videos.
You let YOUR KID EAT BUGS??? So do I. My kids love to roast fire ants and eat them, but their favorite is sugar ants. Good video. I need one of those acorn deshellers. I never knew they existed. Thanks for the info!
@YesWeTan sorry for the late response. I didnt feel flush but it didnt taste the greatest. We want to try to dilute it with some other kind of nut next year.
wow you guys are awesome! thats kool how you guys can process acorns and eat them. This is great for if i ever run out of food on a hunting trip i can always get some acorns to eat, that is if there is any left lol squirrels might have taken them for hibernation.
I just collected around 5 kg aorns last week and processed them into acorn coffee.
Could you perhaps make detailed photos or camera observation of the sheller cause here in europe i cant find anything similar but perhaps i can built something similar. thanks alot!
Very informative. Un fortunately I doubt oak will grow here. Though I have seen Bur Oak in city park that was very stunted. Still I took its baby & planted it let's see if it makes winter & chinooks in spring. Also I may get a nice 5ft from nursery for my challenge to Produce Gardener. That will be a while as it is -31 C at present & was -42 C yesterday + windchill.
thank you much. i harvested so many acorns this year, me and my girlfriend spent HOURS de-shelling and grinding them, we finally made some awesome pancakes with them that i take when i go off into the woods. a little tip if your interested, we get the tannins out by putting the acorns in a mesh into the TANK, i stress tank NOT THE BOWL!, of our toilet and after about 3 days the acorns were perfect.
@creativecompanion I think it was 1.5 gallons a flush but it was my old apartment so Its hard to say. Try it out at different times and see what tastes best.

How long do the hulled nuts typically need to to be allowed to dry before the skins on the nut meat will rub off?

If I want to store these for long term would I process them first or leave them in the shells. Either way how would recommend storing them?

I'm curious. Did you dry the acorns in the shells before running through the nutcracker? I'm thinking of getting one of those.

@myalias28 Their is PLENTY to go around. This time of year you can't walk under an acorn tree without stepping on several nuts with each step.

Great video and fascinating subject. Five stars. I'm going to have to fight the squirrels for these acorns now.
