  • @pfrodemo Yes... It was my favorite gps. Don't plan to use mine anymore even though they put the site back up temporarily. Time to move on :-(

  • So, this is why I can't put any Pocket Queries into it anymore. If I use just the "major" update that is supplied on the web page, all is fine, but if I choose the PQ option the unit just responds "NO DBASE" when I turn it back on. Bastards! This little unit has served us well taking over 300 caches and has been a perfect compliment to the Android and a loved backup to the Garmin eTrex I bought a short while ago. Very, very annoying, this shite!

  • Looks like the geomate jr peeps put the update software back online! Let's hope this stays working for a bit so those kids who just got one for Christmas can actually use it for a while.

  • @tgwne3. If you have the blender... I will happily supply the yellow gps!

  • but. will it blend?

  • @t&t hope you get your money back!

  • well fuck. i got it for christmas and was wondering why it didnt work. i need to get a refund.

  • UPDATE ! : the company that sells the Geomate Jr. has pulled the plug on the device. The update service no longer works. I sure hope those that recently purchased can get a refund. So sad.

  • UPDATE ! : went to update my geomate today and it didn't work. Not sure what's going on but it looks like the company was purchased. I sure hope they continue to support this little gadget. ( I will post again when I figure out what's going on )

  • @KateSpenceNess Your welcome! I have many gps units... My geomate jr is still my goto device for geocaching. Please ask if you have any questions... Here or directly.

  • Thanks for the information. My son and I have been considering making this purchase and you have been very helpful.

  • @firefreak. In CA at the time... Just trying to fit in and drive like the locals ;-)

  • lol, nice stop at the red light there at 4:15 , Otherwise good review

  • Update: got an email asking how they could use a Mac with the update kit. I guess I never said that both Mac an PC are now supported. So, updating your geomate jr, adding custom caches, adding a pocket query or changing countries is now in the hands of you Mac owners. ( That includes me ;) )

  • @crustybiker. Switching countries is a breeze with the update kit. ( and I do recommend getting the upgrade kit )

  • @zzhush. No UTM. Unneeded complication I would guess

  • I wonder if this little unit will also display location in UTM as well as long / lat.

  • That is brilliant, shame they don't sell it in other countries with those countries already programed in :-(

    Good review thanks..

  • @ dach it will give you the closest 20 to you when powered on. It will also give the GC code for them if you want to look them up (or log) on geocaching . com If the one you want is not in the list of 20....you can't search the installed database for them. Most cases... You just need to get near the one you want and turn it on. Geocaching . com has maps to get you close.

  • Test....Having trouble posting today

  • what if i wanna chose wich cache i want

  • @deltaflier1399. You will have to forgive me, I believe I left an Important part on the cutting room floor. Check the other comments below... If you don't see the answer to your question , please give me some more details on your question.

  • @chefrd2000 Oh never mind, i found out how! i was trying to update my geomate jr and I never had the correct software downloaded. sorry if i got you confused. And nice video by the way! it taught me how to check the co-ords on my geocaches that i want to hide.

  • @e1lio1t. My fav part of the "mate" is it requires no pre-planning. Just turn it on and off you go!

  • @chefrd2000 how do you update the geomate jr if you have the chord?

  • @e1lio1t yes and no. Comes pre-installed with caches. Turn it on and it will display the closest 20. You refresh the installed caches, change countries, or add custom caches with the update kit.

  • wait does it automatically find geocaches around you?

  • Glad you liked it. Working on gps video review #4 as we speak. And yes... Paramore is a great band!

  • very helpful. i wish there were videos like this for every gps i've been looking at.

paramore at the end gives you extra points. :]

  • {cont...}. jr would point them to. Does that sound like what you were hoping to do?

  • @blackhalk555. The device will only allow one spot to be set as "home". If you set a second spot as "home"... It will remember the new spot... And forget the old spot. But... If you buy the upgrade kit, (and have a windows pc) you can add many "custom waypoints". This would be good for you own little geocache party... But it would be your own personal "hides" that the geomate

  • Hey, can you add in multiple "home locks?"

For instance, if I was going to do this with a youth group, could I hide things and lock the GPS to the area, then go to a different area and lock it again. Would I be able to find both of the GPS's "home lock" or would only be able to find the first one, or the last one.

  • I got a Magellan eXplorist GC for my birthday. This one looks fun for starters and more open to getting bumped around.

  • @truehelptv Just one. Get you back to your car when out geocaching. I think more would add unneeded complication for a feature I bet most owners don't even use. ( but I want 20! ). ;)

  • On a note with this device's ability to store a location to get back to it (ex: hotel) how many of these locations can you store? Is it just the one to get back to your starting point, or multiple (2+)?

  • @woblob27. Your right, you can't enter cord it it... So it's not gonna "point" you to it. Like I said in several of the other comments.... It's a challenge, but you can do multis. ( in fact did 2 yesterday! ) it's not designed to do them...and doesn't have any multis in it's database. But using the raw cords and heading... It can be done for those who want a real challenge. Also, the update kit allow some options for adding your own using the computer. Hope that helps

  • Hey woblob27... Hope you enjoy your "mate". Not sure how to remove a "found" item. I know you can clear the list ... So being a new unit....clear it and start over, or go find those few :)

  • Hello I just got a geomate jr. And i waas wondering if you can put coords into it. If not then you can't do multis with this. Also i accidentally put two caches into the found column and I didn't find them. How do I fix that. But like the vid

  • @MrsRitaPics - I can try.... What's you question?

  • Best demo on UTUBE!!!

  • Your welcome. Have questions??? Please ask. Happy to help and it might help the next visitor.

  • Thanks so much for this review. I really appreciate it!

  • Thanks for the great product Craig! You nailed that sweet spot between features and price! If you ever plan to add to your product line....You let me know. I have lots of ideas you can "listen" to! ( Troy@Dr.com )

  • Thanks for the great review. Yes, Geomate is listening. Your review has made the rounds at Apisphere the company that makes the Geomate. - Craig, CEO Apispehre

  • grate vid! :)

  • I should add that I use the raw cords section on the geomate to find multi-caches and unlisted caches all the time. It's a bit of a challenge... But that adds to the fun. I showed how to do this on the first draft of this video... But it was over 30 min long. (had to cut it to under 10 for YouTube)

  • Out of the box - no. With the upgrade kit it looks like you can enter a custom database using your computer to enter them. Great for a personal "geocaching party" But I don't think you can have more than one database at a time. So you would only see the ones you added. That's good your kids will not wander off to find more.... But not good if you want to add to the regular database of caches in the device. I think that's how it works. (have not tried it).

  • can you type in your own coordinates?

  • One of the things I didn't like was the north an east cord were on different pages. It works.... Just not the best layout. For most I would guess this isn't a big deal... But like I said in the video I like to do multi- caches and use the raw cords in the places with thick cover. Not great but it works.

  • You have sold this thing to me man, they should pay you for this! Before this video, I was iffy on the Geomate Jr, but you have got me convinced I want it ^_^

At the end, you can acess N & W coordinates? Or just N?

Or does it explain in the book?

  • I am happy it helped you! I also had trouble finding the answers I was looking for... So I wanted to share the answers I found. When you say "off-trail" - remember that it will not keep your "track". It just points (a straight line) to the spot you marked as "home". It has no terrain maps... and it's not waterproof. ( so bring a ziplock bag if you think it might rain ). But you will really be happy it has the "home" feature! Have fun!!!

  • Truly amazing demo! Had a little trouble finding the answers I needed (does it show lat./long. for "off-trail pursuits") . This video solved all my problems. Just learned about geocaching yesterday, going to buy the jr today and start searching tomorrow. On behalf of me and my family, THANK YOU!!!

  • Great review. Thanks!
