I am a competitive swimmer and I don't know any swimmers that are 16 (which is my age) that can go a 23.6 for 50 free. If any 16 year old can do that, they obviously hit puberty really early, swum for a long ass time, or take sports enhancers.

Sport is also 33.33% genetic based, no matter how hard or long you train, some people just need less training to be better then someone that trains whole day.

You just never swam a big competition if you haven't seen a 16 year old swim 23.6

It also depends, if it is short course it is possible. But I know for sure that no 16 year olds in my country go a 23.6 at the moment long course. Maybe 23 high but no faster. I've swum at many national and a few international competitions, I should know.

Without even using the numbers, in his book, Phelps talks about training with Grant Hackett. When they raced sprints, Grant beat him almost every time. People have analyzed Phelps' races, and his overall speed is slower than almost everyone he's racing. His turns are just so good that they put him far enough ahead to hold on to the lead. Even in Beijing, his 100 split was only fast enough to put them in 3rd. He's trying to go into sprints, but I don't think he'll see the same success.

Phelps should keep swimming 200 and go to 400 free cause he aint got a chance against Sullivan, Bernard and Cielo. He does have amazing turns, it almost looks like he was finswimming rather than swimming, but he cant win a 100m race in 30m no matter how good his turns are his stroke cant compete with the others. Im thinking we'll see soon new big names in the 100 free, probably Leveaux and Hayden

Phelps didnt have to swim heats and semifinals like Cielo, so obviously Cielo was more tired in the final of the 100 than Phelps was in the 4x100, even so just watching Cielo amazing progression in the 50 where he swam faster every heat(wich is really odd) theres no doubt in my mind that Cielo is gonna get even better in the 100

Yea the 400 IM was a while back but, before the 4x100, Phelps swum the 200 Free semifinal an hour ago. Which means he would've swum the 200 free heats & semis as well as heats and finals of the 400 IM. Which means that Phelps swum once on the 9th, Twice on the 10th, and 3 times on the 11th (though the 200 fly doesnt count as it was after the 4x100).

Whereas Ceilo only swum once a day from the 12th to the 14th.

Good point though about Hayden, maybe Phelps cant go near that time in an individual
