My mums a professional dance teacher in ballet I have been doing ballet for 2 and a half years she let's me have a go on them she's teaching my skills to build my ankle strongness is that alight?
I live in New Jersey, and I want to go on point. I'm 5 foot 7inches. But, i weigh a little more than I should. How much should I weigh to be on point!? Can you give me any advice or tips for loosing weight???
i dont know what you have to weigh but it would help if you cut out most junk foods and went for a run once a day, along with other excersize and drinking lots of water.
there isnt a sertain weight for point...if u r just doing it as a hoby..if u want to be a profecianl i do not know i dance for fun and because love it
@wowthatsailor omg please do not worry about your weight!! if your a little over wight it doesnt matter if you go en pointe its not going to kill you(: and to be honest, you should never have to worry about your weight unless you want to be become incredibly serious with ballet, like as a job
yep that's called sickling and it's not something you want to do. just always think about shifting your weight towards your big toe. it's not hard to fix. :)
It neans that the weight of the foot is on the small toe well thats my defintion anyway when your on pointe you want the big toe to have the weight not the small toe. Its dangerous and doesnt look pretty
when pointed, ur foot points inwards, not perpindicular to the floor which it should be or if u can, wing ur foot which means that ur foot is facing away from the inside of ur leg.
wow!, i was a dancer for 9 years and my teacher would make me do the prance fast so i screwed up my ankles and knees to the point were i wasn't able to climb the stairs!!! i think that if i had did this slower and really focused on making my muscles stronger i would have had great control!
That was so helpful! I just started pointe a week ago and my dance teacher has already given me lots of compliments on my arch. Thank you!!!!! ;-) She also asked me where I learned to break in my shoes so beautifully!!! S.H.
Well, my bad, I made a type, and by the way, I'm the smartest in my grade AND I get straight A's. I have my facts straight. By the way that comeback was like so "last year!"
wow :D I have big legs -_- and its WAAY harder to make them strong cause I have a lot of muscle.. -_- I hate that,.. it takes a lot more exercise and work haha but oh well I can live with it :P
i got kicked out of my dance class for jumping out the window...and there are no other dance schools where i live..except one but its far too expensive..im not made of money...plus im not good at fitting in and making friends..i have a mohawk and 13 piercings..not you average ballet dancer wanabe..and i realy realy want to be able to do pointe...any ideas please anyone?
Suggestion -- check the dance school that you mentioned was so expensive. Ask them if they would allow you to do a work/study for classes.
Or see if one of the teachers there would be willing to teach you in exchange for house-cleaning or dog walking etc. If you try to teach yourself the potential for serious injuries is very high. If you are serious about wanting to learn pointe and are willing to do what it takes talk to a teacher or school and get them to work with you.
my pointe shoes died this week, and i have to get new ones, my current (and dead) ones are grishko's 2007's. does anyone have a favorite brand i should try?
You idiot...IT'S SUPPOSED TO HURT FOR A WHILE! dont YOU know anything about pointe? Um excuse me but I know about pointe, I have been dancing for 8 years straight!
NO! that's just about the most stupidest thing ever to do! pointe shoes are perfectly fitted to an individual's foot and you probably don't have the same vamp, box, length, or need the same shank support as your friend. you could seriously hurt your feet. and i'm guessing that your friend has had these shoes for at least a month which means that the shoes have already formed to her foot... just don't do it
No Dont try it without an instructor you coudl damage ur feet n you could end up not being able to walk without pain my grandma did and ended up not being a pro dancer but having to teach it instead
that is really stupid, do you know how dangerous that is? also what do you hope to acheive by doing that? It's obvious you aren't going to be a dancer if you don't receive instruction.
The reason you aren't generally supposed to teach yourself pointe is because the risk of injury multiples rapidly. Some people can do it, yes, but I don't advise it.
I want to learn ballet but don't plan to go to classes. I've taken classes in chinese dance from 3-5, a year in 2nd grade and hip hop classes for a year in 5th. Is it possible for me to teach myself pointe?
I bought myself a pair of pointe shoes last month, after I decided that I wanted to. I can releve and walk en pointe now. I got a pair of capezios from the internet...they seem to fit right. Any advice on the fitting though?
Its best that you go and have them fitted by a professional.
They should be tight enough when you go on pointe that they won't slip of the back of your heel, and the ribbon shouldn't be so tight it digs into your ankle.
You know that they're too small when you can't stand without it unbareably hurtin around your big toe and little toe.
I want to teach myself pointe too! How did you do it? What kind of exercises did you do? And also, how do I know what kind of shoes are right for me (I want to buy from the internet!)xx
wow! For some reason even though I'm an Irish dancer (we need to be on demi point 99% of the time) this really helped me get further up on demi point and work on my point! Thanks! It even helped break in my hard shoes!
HI there....my name is charlie and i've recently just started back into ballet after being badly injured from a fall during my pointe work a few years ago....my teacher says i'm ready for pointe work but my hip's still feel a little sore.....do you think i should start my pointe work again or leave it for a while.
i also do prances in class. and this is my first time doing pointe. one shoe (my right shoe), seems to be more broken in then my left. is there any reason this is happening?
Hi, just wanted to know is it normal that i cant get onto demi pointe in my new pointe shoes? i havent sewn on the ribbons yet or broken them in and when i try to rise to demi pointe the heel pops off. Is that normal?
Yep, that will happen if the shoes are not softened in the demi pointe area or dont have the ribbons on. Do both of these (as per the videos) and you should be able to do the exercise properly :)
@enpointe13 Seems pretty normal to me since theyre brand new. before you break them in its always a little hard to roll through demi pointe. also, for the heel popping off, you should try to sew your elastics at the back of the heel of the shoe but with each end about 1 inch and half away from eachother so the heel will stay in place :) learned from experience
i am still quite reflexable but i might have to start with the younger children if i do start ballet. ialways wonder if they give lessons on dvd's or sumthing coz im busy with my education
wow i just had a lot of nutcracker flashbacks lol. those are the two exact things that i do right before i go on (after a proper warm-up of course) :]
what is the average grade to start on pointe? ive been doing ballet almost ten years, im in grade 5 and really want to start doing pointe work... so i would just like to know what kind of rade pointe work is introduced in
This year is my 10 yr anniversary with ballet! Im in the 6th grade and it is my 3rd (? i believe, maybe 2nd)year on point. If your in 5th and have been dancing for ~10 yrs, i have a feeling you're going to start EXTREAMELLY soon. Of coarse it all depends on what your instructor says.
lisa...how do you use a theraband??i have one, but dont know how to use it! i have been on pointe for 2 years, and am really trying to strenghten my feet and increase my arch! thanks for your help
Also, make sure that you do not leave your padding in the shoes when you are not wearing them! Sweat held in the padding can weaken the glue and soften the shoes prematurely, especially in this area. Make sure to dry your shoes throughly after each class. :)
I do that! Thank you! I will start taking them out of my shoes when I'm finished with class. Thank you for the help, I will work on it immediately since I REALLY don't like that stuck feeling.
Sometimes as I wear my pointe shoes, I feel like I get "stuck" in that when I'm trying to roll or even spring up on my right foot, I end up on pointe but with the shoe bent like if it's at demi pointe. At first I thought they were breaking in too low. At 59sec shoes what I mean. What could be causing this? I can get over the box fine in the beginning, but after a while I find myself stuck in this on pointe demi pointe thing.
A couple of things may be the issue. A) the demi-pointe is too broken in for your strength. Especially as this is not a problem when you start in a new pair of shoes. This is most likely not the shoes fault, but a weakness in the muscles that move the foot from demi to full pointe. I really enjoy your videos also - but could you make one about how to tie on ribbons? There are SO many different ways to do it - but it would be nice to see as many as possible.
