I don`t think you should wonder how Bute will manage a boxer like Ward, you should wonder how Ward will manage a boxer like Bute. Abraham/Bika/Green/Kessler/Miranda... Bute it`s bigger , slicker, faster, and hits harder than all of those guys. Ward hasn`t fought a slick boxer either. Except Kessler (with a controversial win), he doesn`t have very impressive names of his resume. Ward is a media hype and to worth the money invested in his image, I don`t think his promoters will let him fight Bute.
and another lame thinking is that Lucian didnt fought boxers like Froch or Ward fought , that is very hilarious , because Lucian fought with almost the same boxers like the boxers i mentioned earlyer, and about Kessler or Pavlik , it isnt Lucian or his promoter fault that they refused a fight with him , and it wasnt about the money , because they offered the same money he(Lucian) would take, for me doesnt make sense what those "haters" say about Lucian
IMO , Lucian is the only complete boxer , maybe im wrong , but i dont see anyone with his style , speed , tehnique and those powerful hits , if some can say it was boring , for this ,Glen is the guilty one
Good assessment, overlordkrull... "Unfortunately" for Bute, commentators begin to "see" his "secret" punch -- that is the overhand right hook... Many Bute's opponents didn't figure out how Bute manages to destroy them with his left -- precisely because Lucian built in with his the overhand right hook... Now Bute injured hist left hand as early as the 4th round against Johnson, and that is why everybody have noticed, at last, his " little secret"...
continuing about resumes: Froch - Abraham already discussed, Pascal , never
top 10 at 168; Kessler - after Calzaghe fought Sartison (only decent W from these 3), Haussler and Perdomo; the thing with Bute's weak resume compared to other super6'ers is really, really debatable. At 168 besides him only Dirrel and Ward are slick: but Ward uses timing to clinch and Dirrell to escape while Bute to counterpunch; hope to see in may-april a Bute vs. Ward fight
@simustata so you think Pascal/JT/Dirrell/Kessler/Abraham/Johnson is not that much better than Johnson/Miranda/Bika/Brinkley/Magee?
I dunno, I think Froch has one of the best recent resumes (win or lose) of any top active fighter. In my opinion Froch's resume blows Bute's out of the water. I would prob take Bute to beat Froch though, that's a different discussion.
@overlordkrull clearly i'm a fan of Bute, but i'm also a big fan of Froch; Froch's resume is clearly better but to say "Froch's resume blows Bute's out of the water" is an exageration: Abraham and Taylor were former MW, no experience at SMW, Pascal future player at LHW and weak at SMW, Johnson former player at LHW, Dirrell unproven but gave him hell; amazingly Froch never beatten a current champ (with Pascal an Abraham was for a vacant title) and was defeated by Kessler
how exactly was Abraham favourite before the torunament? never fought at 168, Pavlik was the king at 160; AA's best win was Miranda, a guy that gave him hell in the first fight and was already destroyed by Pavlik: sorry, you bought into Showtime's hype.Bute's chin? well he fought Alejandro Berrio (at the time 25W with 23 by KO) and Edison Miranda (at the time 33W with 29 by KO) the typical columbian punchers; by comparison , Kessler never faced real punchers;
@simustata Abraham was the co-favorite (Kessler was the favorite).
Buying into showtime's hype? Me stating that Abraham was a co-favorite is an observation of the climate going into the fight, it does not necessarily reflect how I felt (I picked him to lose against Dirrell, but beat Froch, so my rating of Abe has been inconsistent).
If you watched the vid I did mention that Bute is good at fighting pressure fighters and brawlers because he's fought a lot of tough African and Latino fighters.
@overlordkrull "climate going into the fight" = hype; AA was considered favourite after the tournament 1'st round when he KO'ed Taylor , another "proven" 168lb-er; Taylor has had at 168 1W and 2 L (added Pavlik II) before facing AA. I'm just saying that before the tournament Bute's resume was second at 168, after Kessler's. I know what you said in the vid but you also questioned Bute's chin , somehow ignoring the bombs he's been hit by those tough African and Latino fighters.
@simustata I agree that Bute's resume was better than guys like Ward/Froch before the tournament. I just think at this point, it doesn't measure up to Froch.
I kind of feel the same way about Bute's chin and Khan's chin. For example Khan was KO'd by Prescott but he survived Maidana. Bute got KO'd in the ams and technically KOd by Andrade. These days he doesn't get hit clean that much (because he's mastered pressure fighters) which is why it's curious to me.
@overlordkrull never argued Froch resume's isn't clearly better then Bute's right now, just not way better. You made very good points in your vid, i just argued a few minor thing i don't agree with. His chin is not questionable, search Carl Handy's (former opponent) take on that subject :you already said stamina brought Bute down in Andrade I;against Golovkin Bute knew he needed a KO, he was down at points so he took chances;on boxingscene Golovkin said in the ams Bute was his toughest opponent
about Bute's right hand:watch the momment before he KO's Berrio;a right left hook hurts Berrio badly; slick mid-level fighters i don't know at 168 besides Ward and Dirrell and they are rather high level fighters;both of them use timing either to avoid punches but also to avoid the action (Dirrell) practically losing the chance of counterpunching, or (like Ward) use timing to clinch after landing a shot, avoiding so a counterpunch; unlike they Bute stays in front of you while slipping and bobbing
Let's hope Ward/Froch don't duck him in 2012 like Kessler/Pavlik did. Ward already has second thoughts about fighting Bute.. The only reason he signed with Showtime is to fight the S6 winner.
BTW: Ward didn't looked that slick vs Bika/Miranda. He likes to brawl/hug a lot more than Bute.
@SuperiorBeen I'm guessing Bute can equal Ward on the outside. I dunno how Bute handles Ward's rough-house tactics on the inside. The challenge for Ward if he wishes to fight on the inside is getting past the left body shot. Bute catches pretty much everyone who tries to walk in on him with that punch.
@overlordkrull Let's see how Ward will deal with Froch first and then I will be sold on Ward. Also some of those rough-house tactics on the inside are borderline legal. Some referees will not allow them.
@overlordkrull For example look what happened with Dirrel in England. The referee penalized him for excessive clinching. When you trow 1,2 punches and then you hug your opponent to make impossible for him to respond is just foul play.

Bute was smart ! Glen was closed into continuous defence and boring .
If Glen was attacking then Bute could make him KO as counter-attac
