Dieskau was much better at crossing over from his native music than was Souzay. You can make a strong case that these are sung better than Souzay's interpretation, and I can't think of one instance I'd pick Souzay over Dieskau in German. Very well done!
@clarksc1988 I agree, Dieskau is a much better singer in general IMO. Souzay had the fortune of knowing some of the late French composers like Ravel, and was an excellent interpreter. But D.F.D. had superior technique.
K, Wow!! Songs are new to me and I adore *adore* the performances;) I am not so familiar with his non-German work, and I am thrilled to hear these marvelous works - ah! Fabulous. Your video is fab - but which is not from you? Thanks so much! :) -b
I love the rhythm to all 3 songs, it makes me feel joyous in way:) The singing is also superb here, full of energy and depth of feelings. Thank you Karen for the wonderful video as always!!

Fischer-Dieskaus Ravel war überragend!
Gerade in der späten Aufnahme mit Höll von 1984:
Sogar stimmlich noch schöner und musikalischer gestaltet als hier.
Wer begleitet denn hier?

Very beautiful, this music suits Mr. Fischer-Diskau very well. I will look into his Fauré!
