This is probably Radiohead's worst song. But i was watching Glastonbury coverage on the BBC today, watching Two Door Cinema Club and just think "This is the dullest, most benign music ever"... This song doesn't give me that feeling, it still grabs you. What happened to all the good crap music? (Note that i think Radiohead are the best band ever, it's just this song..)
@aer0smith1 Well yeah, I like it, but that doesn't mean I think it's good... it their worst album, but if say, Bloc Party, released it tomorrow, it would be their best album...
@TheParanoidAndroid1 Yeah, I know what you mean, Radiohead's worst is still pretty decent.
Still, if I had listened to Pablo Honey at the time of its release and then The Bends a few years later I would have gone all "WTF! When did these guys become so immensely talented, how did they do it so quick!". The distance in quality between the two recordings is just incredible... the only hint of The Bends in PH is Blow Out, and maaaaaybe You!
Oh no, pop is dead, long live pop It died an ugly death by back-catalogue And now you know it gets you nowhere And now you know, you realize Oh no, pop is dead, it just gave up We raised the dead but they won't stand up And radio has salmonella And now you know you're gonna die He left this message for us So what pop is dead, it's no great loss So many facelifts, his face flew off The emperor really has no clothes on And his skin is peeling off
Ed's guitar work in this is impeccable... I really love their early nineties stuff, all of Radiohead's music is incredibly sexy but when they rock out it's just.. a completely different take on their sexiness I suppose.
Wow didn't think I would get so much negative feedback for that. I love radiohead's music. It was really just an honest question. And degree7, yeah Let Down has a lot of layers and textured parts, I don't know if you could do it with two guitars, but i think it's probably possible. Also the poor guy plays extreme second fiddle to Tom and Johnny. I wouldn't want to live in that shadow.
Well it's funny you say that, and it's funny that people are so sensitive about it, because from KID A on Ed is standing there doing nothing half the time. You asked an honest question. I think the purpose was to have a rhythm guitar, a lead guitar, and an extra guitar for effects.
in pablo honey they sound like a hybrid between Oasis & Blur, honestly....cause they are my favorite band & is really nice to see how mature and progressed is their sound, becoming like Inmortal or something, hope the next record its gonna be HUGE!
@OrangeySnicket Definitely - a lot has happened between those years, and In Rainbows is a FAR superior record.
I started with Hail To The Thief the summer it came out, then worked my way up with The Bends, spending very little time with Pablo Honey. I'd suggest that you work with Radiohead chronologically; it will really help you appreciate the incredible path that they took.
@thurstonite In the 10 months since I made that comment, I can now say I hear that progression more than ever. I dove right in and got every album, so it took a while to really understand their growth. Incredible band, I'm still obsessed!!
lol whats funny about this is that this is one of their worst songs and its better then most of the music out there already, which proves radiohead continues to be amazing =D
u started listening to them after kid a beacause ur a fucking MORON, the bends and ok computer are their best albums and pablo honey is pretty darn good
Its not bad...just not like as artistic as all of their songs...this would be like a famous song if muse or coldplay did it though...cause in comparison to their previous songs this tops them :O
You do know how to read right? I said, Pop is dead would be more famous if someone like muse or Coldplay wrote it...but since it was radiohead its not as famous cause this is nothing compared to anything they have wrote...way to blow it out of proportion...Its like you see coldplay/muse in the same sentence you immediately think its pro coldplay or muse.
So to prove a point you curse and use many grammatical errors, thats really going to make people want to listen to Muse, And yes I have listened to muse, a few muse songs rip off their own songs. There are similarities with Radiohead and Muse, but over all any Pro Muse comment made on a Radiohead Comment is just complete idiotic.
werent there a lot of naysayers back then who said that they were not going to last?, that ''creep'' was gonna be their one hit wonder? boy did they got it wrong
Where does this "Pop is Dead" and "Inside my Head" come from? I don't see them on Pablo Honey, The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, HTTT or In Rainbows!
You can get inside my head on the japanease creep single (but its a live recording which i don't think sounds as good). acording to wikipedia pop is dead was a single not included in Pablo.
Thom looks so silly!!! I dont think you can really say that their music was bad though, pablo honey and the bends are still great albums(just not in comparison to Kid A, amnesiac, hail to the theif, and in rainbows)
hmmm...styles change...i was in high school and this wasn't anything uncool...lots of people dressed this way or wore their hair this way.....plus they're on stage so Ed's crazy white shirt and that weird thing around Thom's wrist (who the hell knows what that thing is lol) was cool for the time - if you watch their Galstonbury show from '94 they're not looking much different
even from this to ok computer- the transformation is unbelievable. they went from just another rock band to the most unique musicians of our time in a matter of 3 years.
Brilliant Early Radiohead - probably brilliant because it's loose and not as perfect as their later works - where can i find more form this performance?
