I actually prefer Birdy's version to this. I really enjoy the instrumental aspect of this version, but I really dislike the whole "strained throat" vocal style and the way Birdy embellishes certain notes and lyrics just sounds much better to me than Simon Aldred's vocals. What I think people are forgetting though, is that by covering this song, she's honouring it and the band and getting people who wouldn't have otherwise known about Cherry Ghost to listen to them (like me).

I am so agitated an embarrassed as I thought Birdy's was the original! I even looked it up before just to make sure. Her youtube video gives no credit to this band! At least her post with White Winter Hymnal had Fleet Foxes in the tag but this Cherry Ghost is definitely not mentioned on her video of People Help The People. Also, I like both the original and the cover.

This is much better that Birdy's interpretation in my opinion. I have been listening to this song since it was released. In my opinion it's more melodic not to mention that Cherry Ghost wrote the beautiful lyrics to the song. Birdy is very talented but i don't see how people can say her version is better.

Birdy's interpretation is beautiful, however Cherry Ghost is responsible for the masterful lyrics (and she's not even listing it as a cover-at least on here). I don't think that she's sparked an interest in Cherry Ghost like she has for Bon Iver, cos he's less well-known. I see that she's even hijacked the music video concept.  As long as Cherry Ghost is getting paid accordingly, I suppose I can live with it.

I like Birdy's version, she's got a good voice and a good choice in music...it just annoys me that people think that her version is the original. I have been listening to this song for years. Birdy's version appears to be more emotional because it's slower and uses a piano. Generally, the original has the most emotion, as someone was inspired to write it THROUGH emotion.
