I discovered this song about 20 years ago.It was the final song in Harvey Fierstein's "Torch Song Trilogy".And i am so glad that i did. Even though i wasn't familiar with the song,i recognized Ella's incomparable vocal right away. She had one of the purest and most beautiful voices, ever.
I love Ella. Just when I think I've heard the best version of this song I listen to her and it's just perfect. Alison Krauss does a wonderful rendition as well definitely worth checking out.
TY for posting this. Ella's vocal is superb. Would love to see Tony Bennett's version on youtube. Until then, thank you for sharing this lovely classic.
Thank you Harold Arlen -- for writing such a beautiful song. And Happy 106th birthday to you (2-15-05 - 4-23-86)! I'm sure you're still writing incredibly great songs in heaven.
When I'm lying in some hospital breathing my last I hope someone shoves earphones in my ears, turns on my Ipod and lets me go out with the voice of this enchanting woman carrying me away.
WOW! I'm liking this version better than Allison Krause's....no offense, hut damn...this woman deserves her status as a legend! Gorgeous Lady E! But you already know thaT!
fabulous , a song of regret , but hope,..........for late at night when you just got in and the evening hasn't panned out the way you thought it would
"Twelve Nights in Hollywood" with Ella from 1961 and a set from 62. All you Ella fans out there; you won't be dissapointed! She's at the top of her game as she is here! On of my all time fave melodies by Arlen and lyric by Mercer!
@locojazz74 Yes, Alan called in the radio station to play it for Arnold, but they mispronounced Alan's names as Ellen in the introduction. Later, Arnold's adopted son David called in the same song to be played on the radio station for Arnold.
The first time I heard this wonderful song was in the movie 'Blues In The Night' as sung by Priscilla Lane. I fell in love with it then and my love has never strayed since. Ella does a great job. Thank you so very much for posting it.
I was ten years old when this was recorded and my mother to play it on the record player when she was helping me get ready for bed. I loved it then and I love it now. Thank you. And in Stereo!!
Dear Friend! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for locating and posting this song.....My very very best friend in the world is getting married and im planning and coordinating the entire wedding day, everyone say's were the real life WILL & GRACE at her wedding reception we are doing a best friends spot light dance to this song :)
