yeah I see how none of you can agree whether Pink Floyd or Radiohead should play this song, but that's robbie williams on the picture, how fucked up is that?
I really wish people would stop arguing over pointless opinions. Some people like one thing, others like different things. Some think Justin Bieber is the greatest pop star ever - others believe it's Michael Jackson. Radiohead, in my opinion is one of the greatest bands out there today. Pink Floyd was and still is a great band. What a person likes or thinks is just what a person likes and thinks. Oh, and we all know that the greatest musicians of all time is Hanson.
@gregpicadash Funny how you just contradicted yourself by arguing Hanson is the greatest. ;) but you're right about one thing, everyone has their own opinions. And sometimes they're not pointless, they can be informative if somebody portrays it that way. I'm not into arguing either, just reasoning. cheers!
@musicdork4ever PF != RH ..they can't be compared really because they're stylistically different. PF were good at what they did.. psychedelic prog rock. RH are arguably much more risky and diverse, and the end product is not always better, but they certainly have brilliant moments that exceed what PF has ever done. And with OK Computer, they proved they can do 'prog' very well, but chose ultimately not to go down that path.
@musicdork4ever i would place more emphasis on "other things" because technology is basically irrelevant. yes certain things might be easier with tech, but to have the talent and ear to make it sound special and unique is something tech can't do for you. In fact, for the recording of Kid A and Amnesiac, RH chose 'ancient' technology in their choices of instruments. Jonny brought out strange & wonderful sounds using the glockenspiel and an Ondes Martenot! for example among other things..
@musicdork4ever you could very well be right there, but I'm not sure if Gilmour had it in himself on his own. he excelled with Waters in the mix because they constantly challenged each other.. to the point of annoying the crap out of one another.. the price of genius and striving for perfection.
@musicdork4ever yep, you bet. Water's solo career was quite eventful. I just love his Radio Kaos album and what i've heard from his Amusing Ourselves to Death sounded promising, but i never pursued it. Do you know that album?
@musicdork4ever his first album after Floyd 'Pros/Cons of Hitchhiking' was a bit controversial for its seedy nature, but the concept was actually conceived the same time as the Wall was. so you can probably figure out from there how it might be like. Radio KAOS is a personal fave of mine. I think it's more because of the story he weaves than the music ~ although the grand finale is one of the most memorable pieces ever ~ the build up of tension.. It's a concept album of course & well produced.
@musicdork4ever just read an article on Amused to Death. it's ranked by Waters as one of his best efforts along with DSOTM and the Wall. hmm.. i may have to look that one up.

@ocean686 no i'd disagree. I think they are of the same caliber. Pink floyd released great albums from meddle to the wall. that's 5 great albums. Radioheads got just as many. Ok computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows. Radiohead has a lot more versatility with their sound as well. Great guitar, great synth, great drum machines, great drums (something floyd lacked), great vocals, great style.
@makshobelosa I love them both for different reasons (funny you chose until the Wall, I would have chosen the same ~ cuz PF wasn't PF without Waters). PF were ingenious for their time, and now RH are ingenious for theirs. it's all about creating something new and vital, and not quite heard before.. if you know what i mean.
i was referring to you coming across as a massive douche exactly because of your implication that Pink Floyd is a 'standard for musical excellence', which is beyond laughable. fag.
@Runningjoels stupid fact. Pink Floyd are one of my all time favorite bands, I have my room full of their posters, their vinyls, etc, but please, any band is a joke compared to The Beatles.
@MKA829 for uneducated morons?? well, those 'uneducated morons' went on to create bands like Pink Floyd and Radiohead and virtually all alternative/rock should owe allegiance to them because they were among the first to start it all. and i'm not a Beatles fan, I just respect what they did for music in general. and plus, they still have a couple songs that still turn the old crank ;)
This is a cover by Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse. I did hear somewhere that Thom Yorke sung some parts over the phone, but the main voice is Mark. Sparklehorse deserves the credit and plenty more where that came from. A horribly underrated band.
"Wish You Were Here" originally written and performed by Pink Floyd, this version is performed by Sparklehorse, and sung by Thom Yorke of Radiohead, who contributed vocals via the telephone.
Putting their bands together to form this song, Radiohead and Pink Floyd where able to afford enough weed to decide to put Robbie Williams on the cover. c(=
