I'm so sorry I missed this installment of the PBS series. Sam Cooke was remarkable in so many ways: brilliant songwriter, extremely charismatic, a natural-born star, and with a voice that was, quite simply, almost too beautiful. His talent was a gift for the ages. When his life was cut short, that gift was stolen from all of us. Thank goodness we have his recordings.
Mr Berry, at 4:05, misses the mark on what was expected from Affo-American singers. Nat King Cole anyone? Hello? Sam was not a musician per se PoetrySelite describes here. But he was a pristine, sophisticated enetrtainer and a pure singer with a gift. He mastered any genre, any stage and broke down barriers before there was a Michael Jackson. But remember Mr Cole too please.
@NYVoice With all due respect .... this isn't ABOUT Nat King Cole, this is about Sam Cooke. If you wanna see something on Nat Cole then all you have to do is type in Nat Cole and it will come up. You don't see people on Nat Cole clips saying remember Sam Cooke because it's not about Sam it's about Nat. But on THIS particular clip it's not about Nat it's about SAM COOKE.
Wonderful! To see us as fans and lovers of Sam's legacy discuss who he was as a man, keep's his name "alive" and educates our youth. God bless the Cooke Family. I didn't have the opportunity to view the program as I was rehearsing with my band. I heard great reviews! Thanks for posting. "There are only 2 ways to live your life. @mumbleora Sam Cooke and others are the reason people most people now dig deep and really sing. I heard Sam Cooke was an influence on Bob Marley.
