What's interesting about the "Death" machines in this one (that come with parasite core) is they start out with the big blue laser and shoot missiles after you damage it enough. In Gradius III, it's the opposite. The "Death" machine in that one, shoots missiles first then the big blue laser beam of OHSHIT

@gs68 I know what it is! I beat it on the collections on PSP. Not too hard, yeah i did use the save state feature but give me 3 weeks I think I can one man it if I play it non stop. Gradius 3 on the other hand, well....

I've always loved the creative ship designs that go into the bosses of the Gradius games.

It's also fun watching people who are far better then me beat those bosses on Loop 9.

My favorite is Big Core Mk.IV in Gradius V though. Props to the player, you got mad skills.

Here's a little known fact... the fire dragons and the large blue laser that Deltatry fires at you are an allusion to another Konami game called Lightning Fighters (US)/Trigon (JP), released 7 years before Gradius Gaiden, where the player had a "Dragon Laser" and a large powerful blue laser as their special weapons.
